Bullpups almost universally have much longer length-of-pull over something like an AR15. That would make them harder to use for a female.

chiefmg 06-05-2023 04:16 AM

Guess she'll just have to deal with having a shotgun then. :)

If anyone is interested, PSA is having a summer clearance sale. I bought a Sig Romeo 7S red/green dot for less than $120 shipped. I stopped looking so I didn't want to spend more.

SBR EFORM-1 APPROVED: MAY 22 to JULY 06... 44 Days.
This was on an Aero Precision AR15 lower receiver... "duty gun" lower.

I've got my next one in the queue on an Aero Precision M5 (AR10) lower. This will be for a 12.5" .308 with an 8" titanium suppressor. I've shot this gun with a pistol brace, but am absolutely-and-fully-completely-100%ly over that bullshit. The Ballistic Advantage barrel that's on it now shoots about 2-3" groups with most 150gr factory hunting rounds. It seems to tighten up with heavier bullets, but I don't have enough data to say for sure. I am very much doing homework on better barrels. Ranier Arms is my leading choice for stuff in-stock and hopefully shoots better with 150gr stuff... gotta keep the FPS up with the shorter barrel and still have the ballistics for whitetail out to about 300yds.

Nice to know that the E-Form 1s are still coming back pretty quickly. I'm about to submit a Form 4... it will be my first E Form.

In my experience with .308 ARs (both 1:10 twist), 168-175gr shot significantly better than 150gr. 1.5 MOA was as good as it got unfortunately, at least with any consistency.

I am getting my trust notarized today and then my fingerprints taken for my EFT file a bit after that.

Looking at ordering a Rugged Oculus .22 and an Otter Creek Labs Lithium 9. I figure if I order them now, I may get them in time for my birthday next year.

Palmetto State Armory has been having a "clearance" on several models of Rock Island 1911. I never had any inking of joining the .45acp club, but one is on the way. Hopefully I'm not in for a painful budget 1911 experience. Also bought a set of Recover grips for the sweet operator look. 230gr FMJ's on the way and I have a ton of Win231 for testing, but will put a few hundred WWB or whatever from Walmart through it for first. Researching magazines now.

I bought this one:

I've had more than a few 1911s over the years, and they were my primary carry up until ~2015. RI and Tisas both have a good rep in the budget 1911 category, but I don't have any personal experience with either. IMHO, the advent of CNC in production tooling changed a lot in the 1911 world. Also, some of the things gunsmiths did to old 1911s (enlarging ejection ports, etc.) were incorporated into production designs over the years. The result is your average 1911 is better today than a Colt was in the 1980s.

For magazines, I stick with McCormick, but Wilson also makes a good mag. I never cared for the plastic follower in the Wilson mags.

A couple of 1911s in .45 that I carried a LOT...

I bought a RI 1911 last year, it's their Ultra model with G10 grips (since changed for wood), fiber optic front sight, adjustable rear and 7+1 capacity. I like it.

Stopped in my local indoor range a couple of days ago, lo and behold they had a Hellion for a rental. I didn't have time to shoot it but I did caress it fondly. It has some heft but balances nicely (more to the rear) so felt like it would be easy to handle. I'll be trying it out sometime soon.

chiefmg 08-02-2023 04:47 AM

Shot the Hellion yesterday. PSA, watch where you place your face when shooting a right-hand ejection bullpup left-handed. First casing hitting my chin was a surprise. I liked how it felt, recoil was less than ARs I have shot and it tucked in nicely. Trigger had a long pull, almost felt like a two-stage trigger. Ergonomics weren't bad for me as regards the safety and other controls (although I can see where the magazine release would take some learning). Now it's decision time...

chiefmg 08-11-2023 08:29 PM

Pulled the trigger (well, not as yet literally) and received it today. First thing I did was change it to left-hand ejection. Was a bit of a PITA mainly because a few things needed some extra persuasion to go home. Also because I wasn't sure of some things and didn't want to break anything. I also swapped out the pistol grip for my usual Hogue with finger reliefs, and mounted my new Sig green dot sight. Going to the range tomorrow to see how I do without worrying about getting casing strikes to the chin.

Another can on the way. A year or so ago, AERO PRECISION developed the Lahar .30 line. In the past decade, there has been a trend amongst the major manufacturers to have at least one or two cans in their product lineup... Ruger, Sig, Nosler, etc... companies who you never would have thought of as suppressor manufacturers have some. I was hoping at some point that AERO (or even PSA) would get into the game as I anticipated the products would be very good and competitively priced. My first few cans were F1, but since that route is no longer, I've wanted to purchase a "do-all" .30cal can but never got around to it. Then last week I got a mailer from AERO PRECISION that they had $200 off their Lahar line.

So I have a Lahar30 (standard size) enroute to my FFL for $470. This can will probably reside exclusively on my Aero M5 12.5" .308.

I'll keep y'all posted when it arrives, processed, check cashed... and approved. Best guess for in-my-hand... April 15th 2024.

chiefmg 08-27-2023 03:25 PM

Bought a new and improved safety switch for the Hellion, along with a Magpul vertcial front grip. Went shooting with those installed yesterday, was a much nicer experience.

Finally bought myself a shotgun as well, the one I really want (Mossberg Mariner) is nowhere to be found so I just went basic and bought a Maverick 88. It had a 28" barrel as delivered so I have a 18.5" on the way along with a pistol grip. It's basically the same as the Mossberg 500 I have to qualify on every year so will be able to keep my hand in with the platform.

I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse.

fooger03 09-07-2023 08:41 PM

Assuming you're the only one left, what are you going to do about the other 7,999,999,994 zombies?
Assuming you're not the only one left, what are you going to do about the other guy with a rifle?

chiefmg 09-07-2023 09:02 PM

If it got to that point, I think it would be down to going out in a blaze of glory. And why would a guy with a rifle be shooting me, since I wouldn't be a zombie?

Resources. Fear. Lunacy. (title of my autobiography)

Guess I messed up my e-file form somehow. Submitted it in Feb and it still hasn't been approved

NFATracker is currently offline, but 9-10 months is in the ballpark right now. If they cashed your check and you haven't been denied yet, you'll probably be fine.
What Form did you use? E-FORM individual is the quickest way to Form4 usually by a month. Trusts and paper submissions take longer.

I have an Aero Precision Lahar30 that I'm waiting on Silencershop processing to head to my LGS for final processing. Tax stamp paid today.

**EDIT** Got the "Ready to Certify" email... hopefully Monday the 10month wait begins.

calteg 09-23-2023 01:19 PM

Just checked again, still showing submitted/in process. Guess I keep waiting

shuiend 09-24-2023 08:35 PM

I really need to go buy a whisper pickle or two. I have the trust setup and I have my electronic finger prints.

On the other have now squirted a FGC-9.
