also, I'm working 50+ hour weeks poolside so, while I'm bronzing, I'm shooting lizards and other small animals in my backyard with my Mosquito. be jelly.

NOT SIGHTS!!! ANYTHING BUT THOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111oneoneoneoneo neone

Nigga please. There's any number of QUALITY sights that can be placed on an AR for around $100.00.

Your faggoty colt carry handle, $99:

Yeah, that's "airshit replica" sights right there. :hustler::jerkit: This is where we'll disagree and I'll be right about it.

Oh, what's this? Faggggggggot ----:

http://www.colt.com/LinkClick.aspx?f...id=105&mid=457

http://www.colt.com/LinkClick.aspx?f...id=106&mid=459

http://www.colt.com/LinkClick.aspx?f...id=107&mid=449

Look at the Cheeze Dick sights on that.. $2000 for a rifle and that's the best they can offer? Let's see, $1200+ with cheezedick sights or I can spend $365.00 for the complete rifle and choose what rear sight I want. I'll bet you dollars to donuts this rifle will last EVERY BIT as long as your Colt. Honestly I find this recurring discussion boring and quite frivolous comparing manufactures of AR parts. We could go round and round about this for years and never reach any sort of conclusion or we could be adults and just agree that there are many fine firearms manufactures in this world whos name isn't colt but can still make things very much dead.

Enjoy sucking dick by the pool all day while the rest of the world is productive and earns theirs. :giggle:

You'd probably be better off with the Savage target rifle model or one of the varmit models.
For 1000 yrd shots they can be made with .308 but it isn't ideal. .300WM has good ballistics but recoil isn't ideal and it isn't real pleasant to shoot all day.
Your best bet would be .243(great ballistics not so great barrel life) or one of the 6.5mm cartridges-.260 rem, 6.5x47 lapua or 6.5 creedmore. Each has slight +/- but are relatively similar. The have less recoil than the .308 and ammo is pretty available for all of them. I believe you can get a Savage rifle in any of them. If you want to shoot long range I would probably go for a longer barrel like 26". For regular 800-1000yrd shots your scope would be just as important don't skimp there though there is plenty of good glass that isn't too expensive out there. Not to mention ballistics on your loads, ranging. That's just the equipment learning to call the wind and shooting mechanics skills are even more important.
Savage is a good rifle/action to start with and not spend an incredible amount up front

Thanks for that - here's what I ended up deciding:
I would be best served with either a .223 or a .308, simply because of price of ammunition. The .223 is cheap because there are a ---- ton of guns that can use it, and the .308 is cheap because I can use 7.62mm NATO in it - which means there are a ---- ton of guns that use it.

For the distance argument, I calmed down a little bit on my goal of 800-1000 yard shooting for now. I ended up picking the .223 after some discussions with my co-workers/boss. The idea is that if I want the distance/killing power of the larger round with the flat-shooting/lower expense of the smaller round, I should really get one of each.

At least that's the argument I'm going with - so if I ever really do want to go long range/big game hunting (was much less likely in my mind than target/varmint shooting), I guess I'll have to go buy the .308.

I ended up ordering the Savage 12FCV. It's their varmint line rifle, 26" heavy barrel, accutrigger, accustock, 4-round box mag.

As shown here:
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/12FCV

Dealer pricing was just shy of $700 after taxes, and I had to call 3 different places to find it.

As far as glass, my mimimum quality requirement is going to be a Nikon Pro-staff - probably in a 3-9 or similar I suspect. Maybe upwards of 4-16, but that might be on the high end of zoom.

At that point, it's $30 for a bi-pod, and I've got a pretty complete rifle set-up. If I'm going to walk with it, I'm going to want to figure out how to sling it too, but I'll figure that out when I get there.

As far as my basic shooting mechanics go, I can put rounds on a quarter at 25m through iron sights. Estimating drop for distance - I'm close, but not quite there. I can breeze through an Army rifle qualification as an expert, but those aren't exactly small targets - and at 300m, a bullet is only just starting to fall appreciably anyways. I think hitting targets at 500m is going to surprise me by just how much drop there really is. Calling windage - completely unpracticed.

U MAD?

Easy there, gunfighter.

I was referring to the overwhelming amount of $20 sights people buy.

I don't have any issue with the many options of QUALITY iron sights available, but the cost oof purchasing such things to put on a "value" upper that didn't even come w/ any sights needs to be factored into the "value" of a budget upper.

I also just bought a Colt 6920 upper BNIB for $650 with both sights and a proper 1/7 twist barrel. So, your $379 upper + $180ish for sights = $559. What a value. A whole $100 savings. You really beat the system!

Relax bro, I just ordered some BCM stuff. I could have purchased a Colt Commando upper but I chose to get the BCM for half the price. But, alas, I will select a Colt carrry handle from the small mountain in my shop and affix it to my new upper.

half of the fatfucks I see on YouTube can't even reload their ARs without some sort of magwell widener. I wonder if they'd have better luck guiding a narrow black stick into that tight hole.

Anyone have any recommendations for a .22 conversion kit for a 1911? Gun in question is a Springfield Armory 1911-A1. I love shooting the thing but damn, it gets expensive. .45ACP be expensive y0.

Avoid Ceiner kits.

Look for a Marvel Unit 2 (regular 1911 sized slide) or Marvel Unit 1 (long slide with target barrel and sights). Both are more accurate than you're ever be, will run reliably with quality .22 ammo, and are backed by a solid company with good customer service.
