My favorite was the way the guy in the red MSR dirt bike helmet had it adjusted. He was virtually looking through the mouth hole. And hand positions on the wheels. and going through the entire corner on the very outside edge of the track. And... and... and... Oi.

I wonder if he did it again next lap

I would have gladly beat that punk with a tire iron or jack handle once he got off of the track.

Fracking FTW!!

Makes me grateful to live less than 10 miles from MSR-C though. Had no idea you could race stock cars on a high school running track.

Reminded me of a track more properly sized for go-carts. lol.

Not sure if this was posted already. My favorite is at 4:00 when two guys dump their bikes and one goes running down the track to flag people to slow down. Helmets are also optional, as you can see at 5:45...then holy shit for the next minute after that!!!

Twodoor 07-23-2014 01:41 AM

Interesting that the camera man on that one corner has so much experience filming there that he knows when a car is entering the corner too hot and stays with it.

good2go 08-10-2014 02:44 PM

Sadly, and as if anyone needed any reminder, here's another perfect testimony as to why you don't get out of your car on track - let alone walk across the track to confront someone.

sixshooter 08-11-2014 03:16 PM

Taunting cars to hit you is pretty dumb, whether it is on the interstate, race track, or local highway.

Yep, and particularly so if you're wearing a black racing suit with a black helmet and standing in the middle of a black dirt track AT NIGHT.

As tragic as it is, I can't help but think there was a lot of Darwinism at play here.

concealer404 08-11-2014 04:03 PM

I'm confused. Why was he not in his car?

hornetball 08-11-2014 04:20 PM

He was ticked and wanted to fight. He lost . . . instantly!

I actually have a little trouble saying it was tragic in my own mind. It would have been tragic if a wheel had come off and killed a kid in the stands. Demonstrating bravado and arrogance in the face of a mortal danger and getting your dick knocked in the dirt is pretty predictable.

Getting out of your car and taunting racers because you have been "wronged" in some way is a learned behavior.

True enough.

I guess I just looked at the facts that he only just turned 20 years old a couple months ago, had pretty much just been bullied (run) into the wall by Stewart, and undoubtedly still had his adrenaline pumping at full tilt as a consequence. Under those circumstances, I'd have to be honest and say I actually may have been stupid enough to do the same when I but a 'teenager'. I'm not saying what he did wasn't totally suicidal, just that I can see how he may have gotten there. Such a waste.

good2go 08-11-2014 06:39 PM

Stewart is of course famously guilty of the same type of behavior.

Jeffbucc 08-25-2014 10:23 PM

This guy has the patience of a saint. Bad drivers all throughout, but at 3:30 when he gets stuck behind a C63 for the rest of the video....Merc brake checks several drivers, almost loses his back-end several times, and doesn't wave him through several times as well.

That just looks like a guy who should be in an intermediate to advanced run group that is participating in a beginner group. Traffic like that happens in the HPDE 1&2 run groups at Sebring on the first two sessions of every single track weekend. I was actually fairly impressed by the number of point-by's he received in a timely fashion.

Jeffbucc 08-25-2014 10:34 PM

I'd agree if it wasn't for his video description.

Not what I've come to expect from the Advanced run group.

Love it

*edit* but honestly, it seems like it was all in good fun but I don't have any experience to say otherwise. Is that a pretty dick move? I can't help but laugh when I see it.

I like when he brake checks him after he finally lets everyone pass after the porsche driver honks at him.

Jeffbucc 08-26-2014 11:54 PM

Both of these Subarus got very very lucky. Yellow flag occurs...well, just watch.

@1:30 is a good starting point

I take it that everyone else was slowing down for the yellow flag but the scooby guys both missed it and almost crashed as a result?

Keith

Jeffbucc 08-27-2014 08:45 AM

Well what I'm guessing from watching it a couple times. It's Nurburgring, the track is so huge that they don't have enough staff for yellow flag incidents. You don't see any track official until the incident occurs.

The Black Subaru was behind the camera car so even he didn't see a yellow flag.

The whole incident would have been avoided if the drivers who had stopped for the yellow hadn't done so mid-track and had pulled off to the side of the track. Or at least hadn't stopped at all and slowly went past the accident like the Subarus did after they wiped the shit out of their seats.

Alpod 08-27-2014 11:19 AM

Theres a POV from the other two subies incase anyone didn't see. Everyone got lucky is wasn't worse!

Red one (starts at :50)

And the black one (around 1:30)

They pass the "inciting incident" of the yellow flag latter on in the video... a crashed car being hauled off on a flat bed truck. I think the officials were there to caution drivers about the big slow flat bed truck in front of them, not anything at that specific point in the track.

Keith

<edit>Other two camera views helped show what happened... but that third video had horrible camera view... was the camera trying to auto focus at different distances due to the changing view out the windshield? </edit>

turbofan 08-27-2014 12:46 PM

Unbelievable. Wow.

Ryan_G 08-27-2014 01:05 PM

Driving on the ring looks like it would be scary as hell. Not only is it a challenging track in its own right but you have a huge range of skill levels on the course at one time. That kind of environment creates situations like this where someone sees a yellow flag and responds in a very dangerous way almost causing a serious accident when the experienced drivers who are flying on the course have almost no time to correct.

hornetball 08-27-2014 01:38 PM

Makes for good vid though.

Yeah. The tool in the rustbucket caused all of this. If he had just slowed down to highway speeds and motored by safely none of it would have happened.

Braineack 08-27-2014 02:27 PM

hey i have a good idea: let's get to the middle of high-speed top-gear straight and then stop in the middle of it.

Jeffbucc 08-27-2014 02:40 PM

End of the black Subaru clip he said he was flat out in 6th...jesus christ I'd need several stiff drinks and a muscle relaxer to calm down after that.
