I'm not much of a track person, but this thread catches my interest. Subbed.
And I'm sure this is in here somewhere, but this is probably one of my favorite track videos. |
This is a fun race. There are some interesting moments at 9:44, 10:54, 14:00, and 14:30.
|
Damn, that purple one gets some air. Reminds me of the BMW lol.

Took me too many times to find it. I am tired. I kept focusing on the NB that was in front of it that went off track, didn't see it up ahead. So here are two videos that I've watched time and time again, not sure if they've been posted here before. |
WOW i didnt know miatas wanted to fly so bad. Good thing he didnt have an APC lol
oops apr* edit |
"That Guy"
NASA Time Trial is a fun group. Almost without exception, the drivers are fast and courteous. It's open passing, and the driving is cooperative so that everyone can get the max out of themselves and their cars.
Like I said, "almost without exception." Unfortunately, there's always "that guy." In this case, he drove a Porsche 935 stuffed with an LS motor running in TTU class but driving slower than the TTE entries. Just watch . . . . He finally spins about halfway through which lets me and others get some laps in. I manage to DQ myself at the end by overcooking Big Bend just a bit though. |
More video of "that guy."
Got tired of being behind him so let Kim Whitener and Nathan Wainwright take over while I slowed way down to open a gap for running. That worked great and by the time I caught Nathan, "that guy" was in the middle of a spectacular spin to the inside of Ricochet. |

My buddy at watkins glen rolling the car.
The miata is almost ready for the track again, he's been a little distracted with his new toy though |

If you pick it at the beginning you could literally be fucked, if you wait to see if they snap it will be too late. My last student did just that while avoid an s2k that locked up the rears, then snapped to his initial position. Lucky for us we were on the front straight and had lots of grass to drive in. |
Oh well, since I caused the controversy . . . .
There are examples in that vid (which I put together for fun . . . and I think it is pretty entertaining if I do say so myself) where I do "drive where they were." The red/black turbo Miata that loses it going into the MSR-C Rattlesnake complex, the MX-5 Cup Car that loses it at the MSR-C hairpin, etc. There are other examples where I don't and choose to go wide off track but UNDER CONTROL. That's the key for me . . . choose the option that keeps me in control of the car so that I have, uh, options. If I have a guy wipe out in front of me and I'm already cornering at 1.2G+, I'll choose to unload the car and go outside rather than attempt to ask the car to give me more than it has. Only thing worse than one spinning car in a turn is two spinning cars in a turn. The gray M3 at MSR-C Little Bend is a good example of that. The yellow S2000 at TWS Turn 4 is another. $0.02. Back to the fun. |
I love the runoffs that you have. There is nothing to hit!
|
MSR-C really is an awesome facility . . . only 7 miles from my house too. Purpose built for guys who want to drive 6-figure (even some 7-figure) cars hard.
|
Back to regularly scheduled programming (note the arm outside the window and which side the car initially rolls onto):
|
He's a regular Brian Boitano.
|
Kudos to the engineers behind the C7 traction control system. This car would have been a smoking hulk 10 years ago. I feel sorry for the poor instructor who desperately keeps trying to give handle signals
|
That was literally painful to watch. How do you keep fucking up your apex after 20+ minutes on the track. Hilarious that he states the Porsche driver being a "Professional Driver".
|

Lol at the GTR going off. Was that a novice session? Thats some crazy passing for novices.

|
i wondered about the chevy camera thing. it's going to record more D-Bags than hero's.
|
I love the instructor in that. Just waves his hands for 20 minutes. He probably should have opened his mouth and let the guy know he was driving like an idiot.

"Eat a f*ck*n d*ck you little b*tch! I'm f*ck*n flat out like a motherf*ck*r!" (copied and pasted from a more polite site). https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435338388 Here are a couple of classic YouTube comments (no longer available since the video was deleted):

The only thing that asshat cared about in the whole wide world was passing the porche... makes his "eat a dick" commentary when he finally does... and withing 30 seconds is passed by the same guy he was so pleased with himself for passing.
At 3:10 what the fuck did he pass over to the instructor while driving at high speeds in traffic on the track? Did he say "Hold my glasses?" Or "here is some Dramamine"? Keith |

That NASCAR finish was impressive. Impressive he walked out of it.

That video makes me wonder if I really should be looking at installing a taller gear so I can exceed my gear limited 143mph on Daytona last year. I was hoping to go faster this year but wonder how fast a Miata without a cage should go without any aero. At what speed does a stock profile Miata get "light"? My old '68 Pontiac felt 10ft wide and really front end light at 145.

The answer is obvious....you just need a big wing, front splitter, and a flat underbelly on the miata. It's the only logical solution.

A couple from last weeks track night. This was intermediate. It was obvious 50% of the drivers had never seen a track, they just thought they would be fast.

I am by no means a great driver but I passed close to 20 people in a 20 minute session. There are a lot more videos like that, just no time to edit them. |
Track nights are very very interesting things. Great concept, cheap rates, but so many novices. Advanced group in Track Nights is comparable to HPDE2 at a nasa event

Why do so many people hate "nine and three"?
It makes my brain hurt |
Aidan, why weren't you screaming 'EAT A FUCKIN DICK YOU LITTLE BITCH!' at the top of your lungs? It's definitely the thing to do now.

It makes my brain hurt

(Late reply)
I'm not sure. I normally do what feels comfortable, never really been coached.
Stoves, I was thinking it for sure. Nobody ever failed to point me by so I wasn't totally pissed. |

Lol...I was going to make a joke about the deer outbraking himself into that corner...
But, holy poop, undersdeer...that made me lol |
Guy decides not to pull his chutes and ends up in the gravel. Has no filters on his turbos which are mounted at the bottom of the car....ouch 2 new turbos please.
I am just a delightful motherfucker |
Dude's lucky to be alive... seat and harness failure
Watch how he pushes the seat to the side. Wow |
Drag racing Safety requirements make me sick. the fact he had 2 shoulder harness bolted to that one little tab is astounding.
|
what, you want him to use that harness bar or something?
