The hanger in the the second picture is just a rubber one from Advance auto. Here are poly ones on ebay that I use on my 97. I also highly suggest getting some big worm clamps and wrapping the hangers. Braineack did that on his setup and they made the hangers last much longer.

 

First setup shipped last night. It should be to Bahurd tomorrow. I have a set of 10 boxes on order, they should be done Monday or Tuesday of next week. This weekend I am in town and have very little on the schedule besides working in the garage. I am hoping to get a lot done and get a few more setups out next week.

As a heart attack

 

My backlog of work I need to do is so huge. I am not even sure when I would have time to work on your car.


Last night I got most of the NA mid pipe jig done. I need to built part to hold the hanger, but other then that it is good. I am looking forward to this weekend and getting some work done.

 

First setup was delivered to Bahurd this morning. Hopefully he posts some pictures tonight of how my packaging held up and his first opinion of the setup.

 

Well well, look what my friendly UPS guy dropped off this morning!



No damage to either box that I can see... Unpack time.



Looks like ALL the packing went into my box! Someplace in there is a muffler and downpipe.



Zip ties didn't stand the test but I think some heavier duty + longer length ties would be the *****. Maybe it was the UPS guy throwing the cartons? Either way, nothing moved around and nothing was damaged.

All in all, quite happy. Now, unless you can convince me otherwise, I'm dropping the manifold + downpipe + turbine housing off at the coaters Monday for a quick turnaround (Cerakote 2,000 degree is local)

Swaintec is just too long + shipping $$

How much are you paying for coating?

 

Not sure yet. Typically they want to look at the parts first. I'll stop by the place early Monday with the parts on my way to a customer. I'll post prices then.

My problem is most places are either a. bigger places prone to production jobs b. a few hours away so shipping $$ back/forth or c. don't answer emails or phone calls to take money...

I'd have probably used Swaintech except they're saying 3 weeks and won't even price it without sending the parts.

Cerakote seems to have a good feedback but it's only a product so you need to make sure you have a good shop as the applicator. The place I use is actually an OEM for the curing ovens and does low volume stuff mainly to demo the ovens. Limited on color choices (unless you want to wait for them to buy something) but as a rule always has the 'black satin' which is fine for me. I'll be fabbing a heat shield also so more interested in corrosion and some heat reduction.

Mine took right around 4 weeks and was ~$420 for ARTech manifold, downpipe, and 2560 housing. No regrets.

 

I might just go with Cerakote and bake it while on the car. Seeing as it will air cure baking it on the car should be fine if imagine.

 

I talked with the guy on the phone yesterday. There's a high temp and a higher temp version. Not sure which is which yet.

The 'air cure' requires 5 days to cure on it's own so you can't do any wrenching on it during that time. I'll know more on the Cerakote process Monday and will post anything relevant. Any specific questions?

I'm looking at the W-209 HIGH TEMPERATURE
INTERIOR THERMAL BARRIER COATING specifically to have the insides coated which helps contain the heat and transfer less into the steel. And the same or W-211 BASE COAT, C-SERIES TOP COAT for the outside.

We'll see what they say.

 

Picked up my parts at the coater this morning. Everything was done with C7300 Black Velvet (Air cure) for speed/cost. It doesn't have the same heat dissipation as Swaintech but I plan on running heat shields anyway and this offers something.

The coater did a great job getting inside the manifold and turbine housing and had a wand to get pretty deep inside the downpipe.

The curing takes 5 days to completely cure.

 

I have access to a small powder coating oven. I could do my manifold and turbine housing. Is doing a coating worthwhile for a street car?

I will post updates of what all is getting done this weekend. I have been working, not as quickly as I would like, but working on it all none the less. Most importantly stickers have been ordered and I should get them in the next week or so. Hopefully they are in before I start shipping the rest of the setups, if not I will mail out stickers to everyone who has already had setups shipped.

Seems the Cerakote process relies on pre-blasting + pre-baking the parts to get an acceptable finish and to remove all oils from the part prior to coating. There is more benefit to using the V series coatings, from a heat dissipation perspective but I wanted something I could get done quickly and more concerned with oxidation after use. I've looked at a lot of headers with the Cerakote coating after being in use and like how they keep from rusting. If you don't have access to a blasting cabinet I don't know if you'll have success.

Thanks, Yes, I'm happy with everything in the kit and the quality so far. Hopefully, after this weekend I'll have time to get the car inside and get everything done. I'll start a build thread once I start and go from there. It'll be nice to reclaim space from all the boxes of related parts.
