Oh good call, good call. Didn't see the blinker lense at first.

goingtoscotland 02-03-2015 05:38 AM

Considering this is an hot side kit, they're probably muffler bearing brackets.

Beautiful flanges, Lars. I received your care package yesterday. Thank you. I'll make sure they are shared wisely. BTW, my daughter noticed some of the rubber dongs and butt plugs had a light coating of cosmoline on them and others did not. Were some of them cleaned up and others not, or is that something the manufacturer puts on them to preserve them for shipping? I certainly hope they weren't used previously.

That is how the machinist cut them. I honestly don't have a good explanation why.

Yes.

Pretty sure those are them.

Preeeeetty sure those are intake manifold flanges.

All the people who guessed 1.6 flanges are correct. I had 2 finished for now. One to build the first manifold with, and 1 to use on a local test car.

Yeah you will most likely get the first one since you are shaping up to be my local 1.6 test car.

Flange #7 if yours.

Now i just need to adorn my car with mkturbo stickers so everyone knows how badass this setup is going to be.

First manifold is mocked up. Cutting the weld el's takes forever. So it will be a few days until I get them all mocked up to this point. Once I have a few pre-cut I will start welding them together.

What are you using to cut the weldels

Good.
So I win the MK-FaeFae S366 special order setup?

HF 4x6 bandsaw. Takes 12-14minutes a cut or so. I can cut with my chop saw and it goes faster, but the cuts are nowhere near as clean or straight so I prefer not to do it that way.

I talked to Faefae a bit ago. He said the miata was sitting in his garage with nothing happening to it. I told him if he got it towed down to my house I would finish it up for him.

Do you have a fixture built? Or do you have to hold it for that long?

I use the built in clamps on the saw to hold it while they are being cut. Once I get another manifold worth cut I can get to welding while I am cutting. The first pieces are being used as measurements for all the following ones. So while it takes a while to make all the cuts, I usually am not sitting around doing nothing while they are going on.

Makes sense, sounds like you got a good setup going on. What welder do you use?

Lincoln Squarewave 175 Tig machine.

Don't forget to add chamfers to those weld joints.

You mean to grind them down so they are at an angle and get a better penetrating weld correct? If so then yes I am planning on doing those once I get a few more cut and get started on welding.

Plus the bandsaw wont explode and take out your groin.

Are there any harder saw blade materials you can use to get some speed?

So I know just about zero about saw blades. I know you have to know the length and the number of saw teeth per inch. So far I have tried 2 different blades from HF and neither make a difference in the amount of time it takes. I also have some blades off eBay and they seem to be a bit better then the HF ones. One of these days I will figure out how to order blades from Enco or something. I have in the past tried setting it so the saw goes faster, it ended up breaking a blade by the third cut. So I put the saw back on its slowest speed.

Saw blades make all the difference. Coolant or dry? Might call one of the local metalcutting distributors in Charleston or call MSC and talk with one of the techs (if there are any...). Lenox Rx is a decent pick.

HF consumables suck...

Edit: Well hell, Amazon Supply carries Lenox, Starret & Simmons in the Prime offering...

I'm definitely interested in a complete 1.6 kit if you do decide to offer any. I already have a turbo, but I guess since it's a chinacharger having a spare wouldn't be such a terrible idea. Assuming my motor checks out and I feel it's healthy enough I'll still be interested. Any idea on a lead time for those?

Any chance of getting an EGT bung option for the manifold?
