Well, its been a hectic past 24 hours. At the shop yesterday I was working on putting the Hallman MBC in and hit a minor, but major snag. Without thought I pulled the banjo fitting off the Tial wastegate to put a new vacuum line on it and that's where it all started. Long story short, the bolt must have bonded itself to the threads inside the housing due to the heat and when I cracked the fitting loose it took the threads with it. We tried to tap the wastegate while it was still on the car, but it just didn't work out. So the only option was to pull everything and figure it out from there.

I called the dyno guy and let him know that I probably wasn't going to make it Monday, but that I would give him a call first thing in the morning anyway just in case. Then I pulled the turbo and wastegate off the manifold and tried to source a new fitting. Went to the local "tuner" shop and told the guys my dilemma. They happen to have a brand new Tial knockoff that they sold me for $75. Got back to the shop, swapped the wastegate mounts and studs and bolted it back up. Only to find out I bolted it up while one of the DP studs was sticking into the DP. So I called it a night.

Fast forward to today and I spent the past couple hours down at the shop putting it all back together. New wastegate is on, turbo and DP are back on, and everything is how it was. Also hooked up the Halllman and threw in new spark plugs. The old plugs were a mess, but I knew that. I also have a second spare set if needed for Monday. Then I figured maybe I would **** with the Tial BOV and see why it was open at idle. I took it apart and put in the heavier, longer spring and no more open at idle. However now I get compressor surge until the BOV opens and as its closing it makes a whistle sound. Like somethings wrong type of sound. I took a video and put it on youtube but you can barely hear it over the motor noise.

Any case, I'm happy to be home and have the car 100% ready for Monday. Yesterday I was irate and ready to choke a ************. But I told myself that its not going to fix itself and I'm too close to walk away from it for something stupid. So its done, and now I just need to wait until Monday 9:30am.

Ohh yeah....and I smoked the turn signal lenses and put those in too. The pictures are with the led bulbs on, they aren't really orange like the picture, only when the light is on. When the lights are off they are smoked black and match the rest of the black on the car really well. I think I like it better with these in.

So we have an end to this thread, but not the end of modding this car. I have plenty of future plans but for now I just want to drive the thing.

Making 250hp/231tq @13psi. Car runs smooth as **** and feels very solid. Wayyyy different car than it was with the 180hp greddy setup. I cant believe I finally have my car back!

Thanks again to all the OG's that keep the info around and the BS out. This place is truly a forum to hang out on if you want to learn a thing or two about boosting miatas. I owe alot to you guys. And now I feel like part of the club again. lol

Graphs below are the 10psi setup and the 13psi setup.

Great job Vash, it was a pleasure reading this whole build over the coarse of what... a year or two? Really was always fun to get updates on it. Enjoy it!! you did great and probably have one of the NICEST most well balanced cars on the forum. Congrats.

Thanks man! I appreciate all the kind words

Well, for certain the next item on the list is BRAKES! They are definitely not going cut it. The car is way too fast now for these *******. I'll probably just keep that in mind and take it easy and do them in the spring....maybe.

I don't know if its just that I haven't driven the car in so long that I forgot what it was like, or if it really does have like 100 different sounds going on. **** me, I kept hearing **** and getting paranoid the entire drive. I didn't really even test out the stereo cause I was too busy listening to every noise the car was making.

I really, really love this car. Now I remember why I kept at it. 180hp was fun no doubt, but this is just awesome. I can only imagine what its like once you get into the 300 range.

My girl went to her parents house for her sisters birthday tonight. I told her this was something I NEEDED to do. I had to take the car for a drive and see what the **** I've been waiting for this whole time. Glad she understood

Well after just a short time of having the car back its coming off the road again. This turbo setup is a complete joke to work on. I was actually getting good at it, but now its just become a ******* nuisance. I've pulled the turbo like 6 times in the matter of 7-8 days. I don't have the time to fool around with a bullshit setup anymore. So, time will be spent working making money and money will be going toward a DD for the winter. Any extra money will go toward a new turbo setup that doesn't cause ulcers. Whether its a FM3 or a older BEGI, its horrible. The design is *** backwards and its not good quality. Just when I was getting excited about the car, what do you know....another issue with the turbo/mani/dp.......go figure.

The exhaust leak was bad man. So bad that my eyes were getting milky and I would start getting the spins while driving. I wish I could have left it alone, but I needed to try and fix the leak.

I had my welder buddy weld the manifold today, and I was proceeding to put everything back together with some high temp silicone, but then the dump pipe stopped the progress. I don't know why, but I cannot get it back on. I mean I've taken it off and put it back on over a dozen times now, but this time it just will not line up properly. I literally spent my entire day today ******* with this car again instead of working.

I don't know why you got rid of your greddy. Now that I fixed my wastegate problem I'm probably at the same HP level as you. I would never buy a Garrett unless I was thinking of making 350+

Took the night to calm down , took the morning to get it back together. Drilled out the dump pipe hole a little and got it back over the studs. Sealed everything with the high temp silicone and will cross my fingers until I start it up tomorrow morning. Hopefully all goes well.

Here's some pictures of the car with the hood pins and some of my progress work on the manifold. I take pictures of everything, in case anyone didn't notice. lol

Today while I was taking pictures of items I have to list the mailman brought something new, so I added that to the photo shoot. Awesome quality and looks solid. Assuming all goes as planned tomorrow I will test out both the laptop mount and the video camera mount.

Thanks guys Eventually all that is chrome will be anodized or powdercoated black.

Here's some pictures of the laptop/camera mount that I put in today. Its a little shaky when I have the arm extended and on that angle. I'll **** around with it over time and see if I can stabilize it a little better.

Here's the video I shot to test it out on the way home from the shop.

Also happy to say that the silicone sealed the exhaust leaks I had and should hold me over until I replace the manifold and downpipe. Knock on wood....

Thanks guys! Lots more videos to come. Now I just have to stabilize the mount a little better and learn some more about the settings on the camera.

Its a Tial

I'm only running 13psi so I'm sure at higher boost it sounds more intense. You cant really hear it in the video but anytime I let off the gas out at a low psi I get compressor surge and it gobbles.

I like this bov more than the HKS SSQV I had on my greddy setup for sure though. That one never failed me, but it was just too loud, all the time.

The Tial Q is definitely the coolest sounding BOV, better than the SSQV which is still cool. I refuse to call the flutter noise "surge" when the hot-side is not loaded. What spring are you running? I have the 11psi spring with a 3/8" hose running from the plenum to about 2" short of the 1/4" reducer and it stopped the flutter noise.

So many ricers stop to tell me how cool the BOV sounds, lol.

When I had the boost-controller fail on the dyno at 15psi, it sounded like a whip cracking / shotgun. Even the dyno operator who exclusively tunes V8's thought it sounded cool.

Its crazy to feel how much air comes out of the thing even parked with the hood up.

I'm not sure what spring it is, but it was slightly longer and harder to compress than the one I took out which was causing it to leak at idle. Now it doesn't leak at idle, but gobbles.

I've scared a couple people with this one already. The only time I ever release the bov on purpose is when I'm under a bridge or in a parking garage.
