In reality, anything with a magnetic pickup that will eliminate the points could work, but the Duraspark II guts are pretty spot on. If you don't want to just pay someone like I did (I used and recommend Re in"Car"nation High Performance - Home) IIRC you can take the guts out of a Series 385 (ie: 460 gas motor) Duraspark II distributor and transplant them into the FE series points housing. The tough part is figuring out the centripetal (mechanical) advance timing ****. Its a PITA because it has to do with a combination of weights and springs but it can be done. Rather than have my original points distributor rebuilt I hadPaul Scott at R-A source a new one and do all the mods to fill it with Duraspark parts and we then worked out a custom timing curve. $155 out the door was really hard to argue with.
If you want to get fancy, the wide cap 5.0/5.8 distributor rotors, cap spacer and caps with HEI style terminals with fit and thus give you access to the eleventybillion different types of plugwires available for the five oh. Much easier to make custom wire sets for the FE because nothing off the shelf fits right. I think I custom made a set of 8mm MSD 'Street Fire' series wires in the end after buying 4-5 sets that didn't fit.

You might be able to just go to the Napa or O'Rly or whatever FLAPS and try to order 76 360 F-150 distributor, it SHOULD be a Duraspark unit but be prepared for disappointment. The only downside is that the timing curve will be very "emissions friendly." Also, if you have an oldschool MSD 6 series ignition box don't mount it under the dash because it buzzes like a bunch of angry bees. Ask me how I know.
Just was down at the parent's place. Looked for that MSD unit, to no avail. All I found were two Mark Ten B capacitive discharge units. Interested in one of those?

Dad had the one rigged to Mom's 1972 (?) Ford LTD. Supposedly gave better mileage, but it helped start that beast (400 ci engine), which hated to be started cold. It basically just gives a hotter spark.
