Well you could dump a lot of money into it and save it... I guess I would see if it is rusted out anywhere. Get more pics, it is tempting for $500. Also $500 is asking price, so try and get it for $350 - $400.
|
Ew. Not worth it at all.
|
I wouldn't consider it at all if I didn't have a spare 1.6 block, 2 5-speeds and a shitload of parts.
|
Neverminddd. Send me a 5 speed :)
|
Wait don't you already have a spare 1.6 block in your garage? You sent me the crank pulley off it.
|
That guy from MN. LOL. There won't be even a "speck" of rust on this thing. High desert. End of story.
Those midwest/northeast guys just don't get it. And they keep buying local cars instead of springing $300 or so to get a completely rust-free car from another part of the country. Would be a quick and easy fix. Needs a quicky paint job. Question is . . . can you resist being Jeffbucc? Can you do it quick and easy? You've got the parts laying around . . . . Look at this thing, still has its daisies! I'd totally do it. I'm thinking track car. ;) |

Jeff - that is a good move, put more money into your car. |
Yeah it all depends on what it looks like in person. I could flip it pretty easy, and I highly doubt it has rust.
I could buff the paint to the point where it looks shiny. I have a spark 1.6 block, spare clutch, headlights, yadda yadda, so as long as I don't put any money into it it seems like a profit situation. Course by the time I'm done I'd probably be tempted to build a NA track car knowing my personality... |

Hmm looks like a repaint now that I look at the rockers not being black.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425313524 |
Cause that's its biggest problem...
|
That thing is done, don't do it. Look at the rear wheel wells and just above the side of the rear bumper...
|
Yeah the more I look at it, it is a mess. Maybe if I was serious about building a track car Lazarus style I'd be more tempted, just flights of fancy currently.
|
Ignore the haters Jeff. That car NEEDS you.
|
I mean... See if the guy will take $250-300 for it. Can't lose really, just depends on if you want to mess with it.

My god, that thing is all but dead. Somebody shoot it.

I also had doubts about this being Abe's work, maybe his earlier work?
This is why we use a huge aluminum back purging plate to pull the heat out of the flange during production. Although im sure you check for flatness after welding, my first few manifolds were built with a 3/4" thick aluminum like that for a backing plate. The plate after 3 manifolds was out 1/16" from the strong stainless pulling it out of spec. I use 2" steel backing plate now... but if you surface the flange after welding and its still within spec-no worries. |

Does anyone happen to know what V-band flanges Abe uses?
I'm using the midpipe from my ARTech setup, and FAB9 leaves the rear portion of the downpipe unflanged for you to use your own solution. I need to buy the right V-band flange to weld on to the downpipe. Here is the flange I mentioned. The clamp has this tiny crush gasket that goes in the middle of the clamp. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425494332 |
I believe they *might* be from https://dixonvalve.com/. The clamp he sent me with my exhaust was from them, so I assume the v-band flanges are as well. I would shoot him an email and ask, he's pretty responsive.
I'd like to buy 2~3 more sets of his v-band flanges and clamps for when I build the rest of my exhaust, specifically because I like those little gaskety things his setup uses. |
Thanks G. The gaskets seal well for sure, but they are a bitch to get in the middle of the flange while slipping the clamp over. Took a lot of finagling to get it centered correctly.
What is Abe's user name on this forum? |
I believe it's just ARTech.

They are process flanges "ferrule". I use them when I need vbands too.
I use the long butt weld ferrules so you dont have to worry about them warping to oblivion when you weld them-unlike the short ones. |
I need to order one of these flanges too and I am having trouble locating a place to purchase them. Anyone got a link directly to the flange? I can't find anything on the dixon site.

Seriously, how the hell is this thing still that clean underneath?

A couple little blobs of RTV to hold it to one of the flanges would probably help hold it in place. It would burn off pretty quickly, but then its not there to seal.

That's a good one. High risk factor for me to deploy that one, though.

$1500 94 M Edition w/hardtop. Pretty beat but the hard top is tipping me away from "hell no"
94 Mazda Miata M edition #beergoggles:rofl: |
Yea...but if anyone can bring it back from the brink, it's you Jeff!
At $1200-1300 this is a no brainer. Sub $1500 miatas with a decent shape hard top are a buy sight unseen sort of deal. Go now...before it's too late! |
As much as I would love to see you restore another car; that thing is a complete pile of shit.
I suppose you could at least make your money back in selling the diff and block, so cheap hard top? |
I'm not really too serious about any of these. Just always looking just in case something promising comes along.
Plus, I think my pops would be less than ok with using another garage bay space! Maybe when I find a decent 2 car garage apartment to rent that isn't $$$$ I will. |
You guys are such chicken shit. That '94 is a gold mine. Low ball for $1200, fix it, replace or reupholster the seats, decide if you wanna 5-speed swap, steam clean the engine, shampoo the carpet, and you've got a $3-$4 car, depending on whether or not you find a m.netter to sell it to. M-edition bro!
Ed would be all over that shit. |
I'd totally buy it if I didn't want to overstep my Dad's generosity with using his garage and I didn't just spend 8 grand on new equipment, repairs, and other bullshit....and just purchase a whole new turbo setup as well.
Jeff is going to build up the reserves till life stops punching me in the dick. |
Use the Ed philosophy, spend $1500-$2000 now, make $1501-$2001 later!
|
:hahano:
Everything that has been said about me in the last few posts is true. |
Ed go buy a house :) you'll have less useless car money and I'll a place to live in june.

To clarify I did not mean I was going to live with Ed, but his house is near where I am looking for one lol. :)

you just gave up your secret
time to come out now |
Really? Were on MT.net, nobody needs to come out when you all share the same closet.

That downpipe. Pie cuts. Art. Fashion. Beauty. |
cannot wait.
|
Was waiting for you to post something up! Can't wait to see how it does on your car. Should look great in your already super clean engine bay. Everyone knows the first step to running this hotside is to strip down and paint your bay so it doesn't look out of place in a dirty bay lol

There are definitely some areas that need to be touched up but I'm not too worried about it.
Putting the turbo in is the easy part, the "fun" part is making all the new lines for it....I went a little overboard on connectors. Attachment 238151 |
