What's your air/oil separator situation? Is it plumbed back to draw vacuum from the intake manifold? You could splice in a clear piece of tubbing to see if it's drawing a ton of oil into the manifold.

What's the intake runners look like before the head. Any staining or film that you can feel?

There is a coating. But it's mostly dry carbon (I didn't clean the intake mani that well before installing.) Not a lot of wet. I know some oil is getting through. But just picked up a new separator.

Sorry I'm a bit new to the Supertech valve stem seal issues since it wasn't on my radar till now. They are known to fail prematurely?

Re: Rice sound for det.

You should only be able to hear it with det cans and it shouldn't happen during decel right? I think my intake filter vibrates at certain rpms due to the resonant frequency and it has scared the crap out of me before because it sounds like an angry swarm of bees.

I think your car is definitely detonating on decel.

I too am interested in if this is a Supertech valve stem seal issue since I was planning on doing mine soon.

Curious @aidandj did you happen to measure your valve guides when the head was refreshed and also seat to guide runout? Valves are new right?

Head is used. Ran fine before rod knock. I lapped the valves and called it a day.

It was cleaned and decked obviously.

Given my luck the past few days, I'd believe it.

Not sure yet. Currently trying to decide if I should get some new ones overnighted, or toss some stock shim over buckets in. Looks like 4 or 5 total are damaged.

I forgot you were on SUBs and I was just going to say to flip those shims over and go.

Looks like metal deposition, rather than damage. What do your pistons look like?
