looks like carbon.

Do you have oil drops in your coolant yet?

It appears, to my untrained eye, to be oil. Mine look similar to this with my amateur proctologist camera but I don't have pics. With your leaking valve stem seals and the fresh oil present on the piston tops, its going to be really hard to tell no matter what. Have you tried removing any of that schmoo yet?

naw. But I think im going to do valve stem seals sooner than I thought I would.

Really hope that is whats causing the oil on the pistons. Maybe its even what caused the det?

if only there was a way to stick something down there to touch the piston so you could smell the substance on said thing....

...why? Its either oil or fuel. And fuel would have evaporated.

Have you pulled the manifold yet to check the tops of the exhaust ports for oil? I know you've seen my pics.

Yes, I know you don't want to pull the manifold. Maybe pop the vband and try ti stick the camera up the wastegate hole? That'll narrow it down pretty quick.

Its a good plan, oil on the intake valves should show up pretty well.

Odd, looks like there's oil in the intake stream. The outside of the guidses are wet from oil but the valve stems look clean.

Probably could. I'll change valve stem seals when they show up tomorrow. If that doesn't get rid of the smoking i'll just get used to smoke I guess.
