So. Progress / Problems update:

@aidandj pay attention, because I've been entirely too lazy to type this all out on my phone's keyboard.

So I got off the interstate on my way home from work Friday, and the coolant temps SPIKED. Pegged my modified coolant gauge. It was oddly swinging like 20deg (of 360, not like, F). I was like 1mi away, and in my mind accelerating slowly and driving back would keep more air on the rad and be a better option. When I got back, I let the car run briefly with the fan on, and the temps didn't seem to go down any. [Sidenote: I need to get BOTH fan's running. It's set up in TS to cut on both, but it doesn't]

So, cut the car off. There was like a 4 second delay, then a creak, then a PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that continued to spray water out the back of the head somewhere until the system depressurized. I assumed the worst: head gasket failure. However, I decided to start the car anyway an hour ago. Because, **** it. Besides, it was pint night. No leaks. Like wtf. So, figured at that point it was safe to assume the HG was fine. Jump to yesterday, I drove 2 hours each way to hunt. At each destination, the same thing happened. But, I started the car immediately the next time, and it stopped. no coolant temp spikes or anything this time though. So I'm all like, whattttt?

So, jump to when I get home last night. I decide to make a video for you kids so you can tell me what's wrong. And whilst zoomed in filming, that's when I noticed the clamp on the hose going from the back of the head to the IAC on the throttle body isn't attached. Sooooooooo we'll see if that fixes it.

Hope you enjoyed this wall of text I wrote so it's not just another "I fucked up" post.

when things like this happen it's always nice for it to be something stupid and cheap to fix rather than the opposite

If it's any consolation, I've done that EXACT same thing before, leaving that clamp right there and forgetting to reinstall it after pushing the hose on that barb. I've since deleted the stock oil cooler and thus I welded that little hose shut.

I had that clamp loose before and it would only leak when hot, but it would just steam and not form a run that you could trace. There would be no leak when the system was cool. It took me 6 months to figure out why the wife's 97 kept dropping coolant between every tank of gas.

Can you weld aluminum? Apparently you can weld it and have it stronger than the stock one is with the notch in it.

Do I have access to the equipment necessary to weld aluminum? Yes. Do I trust I could do a decent enough job? That's another story.
