Yep, throttle lift is completely responsible. Not too different from pulling out.

Yes. Something went wrong. Bottomed out the bolt maybe? Long story short: bolt broke, easy out broke.

Sad day, as it was early in the afternoon when I planned to drop the motor in. Tried welding nuts, no dice.

So, cut it all out with carbide dremel bits, helicoiled, all good now. Motor is 2 hours away from the car, as I brought it back with me to Columbia. Goal is to have it running this coming labor day weekend.

I'm on my phone so this won't be super pretty and well layed out, but here's the story.

Got the motor in. Got it all wired up. Coolant reroute hose cut to fit, etc.

I installed a new oil pressure sender but haven't swapped in the spare gauge I modified the resistors on. So, to verify I had at least some oil circulation, I unhooked the feed, shoved it in a bottle, held the starter with flood clear. The oil that came out was of the chocolate milkshake variety. Fuckkkkk. New HG etc though, so it seemed unlikely it was getting contaminated with water. Flushed with a gal of cheap oil, then ran the motor for 1min or so with another gallon of cheap oil. Seems to have flushed it out, probably just rain water from sitting in the driveway (still under a tarp).

Also worth noting the car would NOT start, but the composite log seems to have revealed it was the crank sensor. Moved it closer and life was good.

There is also a slight mechanical noise when you blip the throttle. Not really knock, don't know yet. Need to investigate more.

The problem, and reason the car isn't back in Columbia, is it is STEADILY leaking coolant from the spacer assembly in the back of the head. The hardest ******* place to try and work on. So, I quit for the day. My birthday is this coming weekend so I'm going to the USC game on Saturday and the lake Sunday. So it won't be seeing any wrench time until the 20th.

IF the coolant problem is easily fixed, I just need to throw on the bumper and hood and drive it. And that's if this noise ends up being nothing. Maybe I left a wrench laying somewhere and it's rattling. We'll see. Like I said, only ran it for 60 seconds or so.

Also, oil:

So, my car is making a terrible noise on decel. Not always though. But, when it starts making the noise, I can push the clutch in, blip the throttle to have it move through that rev range (like 3.5-4.5), and it will still make the noise. Any ideas?

I'm going to throw it up on the lift here in an hour or so and will report back if I find anything obvious. If I don't, I plan on rotating the driveshaft 90deg just as a shot in the dark. I didn't mark it or anything when I took it off.

Other notable things.... Idle blows. Lots of flutter. Car still doesn't like to start when hot. (These two were pre-existing.)

And it takes a REALLY long time to heat up, and stops around 173 on the interstate. Like 184 if you're sitting idle/around town. It ain't good. Stuck thermostat? Bypassing thermostat? idk yet.
