You may want to look into some shops in Mobile, AL. I am from Mobile and there are some good engine builders and performance shops, there as well. F and D autocare specializes in Nissan Z's but they have done a ton of work on a local turbo Miata. Also TDC performance performs engine builds and has a really good tuner named Mike. If you are looking for just an engine builder I have a lot of friends in Mobile that have had motors built and could give u some really reputable builders to look into.

Thanks I'll look into it. I've been talking with BogusSVO in Pensacola he's backed up at the moment but I have time so we'll see. If for nothing else it would be nice to find some semi-local speed shops if I need parts.

 

Frank you should honestly just order a built motor from TSE and be done with it.

 

Update:

So I went home for lunch today after looking at the DHL tracking on my MegaSquirt. The tracking said it was still on hold in Jacksonville, FL but no more then 10 minutes later there was a DHL truck in front of my house! So needless to said today is a good day.


It was very securely packed and this thing looks great!



Then I made a quick trip to Radio Shack for a DB9 to USB cable.



Now I just need some time to install everything!

 

Crazy build sir. Almost makes me sad to see such a nice DD turned into a track car but you're sure building everything right!!

 

Be prepared for lots of problems with that cable. You will probably have a ton of connection issues with the MS. IE you'll probably lose connection every time you go over a few thousand RPMs.

 

I thought my old laptop had a DB9 port but I looked at it today and it doesn't so short of buying another laptop I'm not sure what else to use.

 

Obviously go ahead and try the one you've got, if you don't have problems awesome. But if you do, at least you know the problem. The generic USB/DB9 cables from wherever for whatever reason have a lot of issues with interference. Either they're not shielded enough or just suck.

I went through 3 different cables before I found something that worked better. Ultimetely I used a long *** DB9 cable from MS to computer and used the USB/DB9 converter that DIYAutotune offers to connect that cable to the laptop. I now don't really have much connictivity issues, but the big *** adapter coming out of the side of the laptop is kind of a stupid setup. I'd like to hear what others are using.

 

Well if I'm expected to encounter problems with it I'd rather just take it back and try the one from DIYautotune. It looks like I can put the adapter on the ECU vs. the laptop side. Hopefully I won't run into any connectivity issues with that one.

 

I hated the adaptor from DIYautotune because it was awkward and unsupported just sticking out of the side of my laptop. It eventually broke from the weight of the adaptor just hanging off of the usb port. I got this one from radioshack:

Works great and just acts like an extension from the cable that I got from DIYautotune.

Looks great! I just dropped my bp to my engine builder Hux Racing... not local to you unfortunately, 5hrs drive for you. BUT - when yours is done, will I see you tracking it at Barbers or NOLA? I visit several customers down there every 6 months... Ocean Springs hospital, Biloxi Regional and GP medical center... we'll have to catch lunch some time

 

No I havent really done anything else with the seatbelts. The issue is that the seatbelt is getting caught between the factory plastic cover and where it meets the roll bar.

Mind me asking what you have in the manifold and DP? I'm thinking if mine doesn't sell soon I'm digging back into it to build up more.

Frank, how do you like the angled MR shifter? I am considering a stock height but curious on the angled version.

 

The shifter is amazing compared to stock. I haven't tried the stock height short shifter but I always felt like the height of the factory one was too low in the first place. I love the angled one.
