Sorry to hear about your Miata... a buddy of mine stacked his up on Sunday as well... t-boning a Spec e30 that ended up stalled over the blind crest of a turn at Thunderhill.

Not a good weekend for Miatas, evidently.

On a positive note, just think of how happy your dog will be when he sees you again after you return from your adventurous year! That outta be a great day, for sure?

timk 04-20-2015 11:05 PM

Bummer, sorry to hear about the crash! Glad you are both OK!

turbofan 04-21-2015 12:32 AM

Dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit.

Dammit.

I feel your pain, as you well know. Glad to hear you and your passenger are OK.

NA - based build time? After NZ?

Edit: dammit dammit dammit. Dammit.

Mobius 04-21-2015 01:57 PM

I don't know. I have all this NB stuff that will plug right in. But a '95 build would pass emissions with no fuss. It's possible.

rleete 04-21-2015 02:02 PM

Still feeling okay? No onset of soreness/stiffness after a couple of days?

Mobius 04-21-2015 05:57 PM

Yeah I'm fine. Just my normal aches and pains. Maybe a little bit of that soreness you get when you try the boxing game on wii/xbox the first time, and my neck might be just a tad sore. I would feel it if I tried to do dead lifts.

turbofan 04-21-2015 06:12 PM

Well I'm glad to hear it.

Did you take pics or are you waiting for that?

Mobius 04-22-2015 02:31 AM

I'm waiting on that. I'll post some of the disassembly carnage from CSTG tomorrow. Time to go to bed.

EErockMiata 04-22-2015 04:46 PM

I lurk in this thread religiously. I've been planning a rotrex setup for my nb and this has sorta been a guide for "This is how we do it..." que Montell Jordan Voice.

Super bummed for you dude. As a track rat myself I know all too well that these are the risks we take. Honestly I feel like we always think in the back of our heads, nah, that happens to other people.

Again, super sorry dude. I'm stoked that you're already planning your journey back to glory. Please keep updating. The end of this car (shell maybe) and your trip abroad is a big hit to this build thread subsection. :2cents:

aidandj 04-22-2015 04:49 PM

100% in for awesome NZ pics. That place is beautiful.

Also Idk if you watch the smoking tire on YouTube but its Matt Farah doing his thing and they have had some awesome videos from NZ lately.

The driver's fender had a crease with a very interesting stress result in the paint.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1429747109

And then the damages. Pictures really do no justice to how warped things are.

This is when a strong man cries on the outside too.

aidandj 04-22-2015 08:07 PM

Wow. The way the radiator support shifted the fender out is crazy.

rleete 04-22-2015 08:10 PM

Holy crap. That's one massive thump. Consider yourself lucky.

And that paint on the fender is kinda cool.

turbofan 04-22-2015 08:26 PM

Should I do another dammit rant? I want to do another dammit rant.

Pretend I did another dammit rant, dammit!

Serious hits man. It hurts. Loved this car

Mobius 04-22-2015 08:32 PM

Aidan look again, the radiator support was along for the ride as the bumper crash bar went sideways along with the right frame horn, which is now approximately on the centerline of the car.

Wow is right, thats impressive. I've said it before, I do love a dark NB and its sad to see it go.

Completely justified.

Strong men... also cry

When you are feeling up to it, a quick recap of safety equipment, seat mounting, etc might be nice. I'm so glad you came out unscathed though, that's the important part.

aidandj 04-22-2015 08:48 PM

what about the wheels? did that front one survive?

rleete 04-22-2015 08:52 PM

Unless it's a trick of the light, looks like the spokes upper left have separated from the rim.

Edit: maybe that's just a shadow from the valve stem. Hard to tell.

curly 04-22-2015 08:57 PM

Anything passenger side is toast except brakes, rear xida, and door.

turbofan 04-22-2015 10:13 PM

The passenger side Xida ended up fubared too? Man. Ouchies.

It originally appeared fine, but the shaft is bent. We're hoping it's rebuildable through AST.

Current state of the rear:

Current state of the front:

I took some measurements because I can. The back quarter panel is pushed in 5 inches, the front is shoved over 13 inches. Good to know.

vintagerust 04-22-2015 10:36 PM

Geez, man! That's crazy how far the front end shifted.
Sucks to see a fellow Emerald Green Mica car all busted up.

Mobius 04-24-2015 03:33 PM

I am on a light rail train in Portland with my son's third grade field trip.

The train has struck a vehicle.

Draw your own conclusions.

aidandj 04-24-2015 03:34 PM

Have fun with that one. Last summer I was on a train that hit a woman...she didn't make it. First time I'd ever seen someone die :(

Mobius 04-24-2015 03:46 PM

actually, the car hit us,just tapped us as we pass through the intersection. But still.

turbofan 04-24-2015 04:07 PM

An old couple in front of our dealership got hit by a train. Our salespeople were first on the scene, and one of our sales guys was right there with them til the paramedics came. The old lady on the passenger side didn't make it. The salesperson took a few days off after that.

oi.

Glad yours wasn't severe here. Now quit breaking things.

Comes in threes.

PLEASE be careful.

aidandj 04-24-2015 09:18 PM

This^^

Be very careful. Freshman year I got in a car accident, speeding ticket, and an MIP all in one week (in 3 unrelated incidents). After that week I believed in that.

MIP?

Minor in possession. Fun little Oregon law that revokes your driving privileges if you are caught with alcohol...even if you weren't driving. The situation is a long story but it sucked.

curly 05-16-2016 12:04 AM

Car is dead, therefore thread is dead.
