Wow.
First week of Feb, I was doing test flights to Astoria while that cyclone was coming on shore. Just couldn't get the belts tight enough. What a rodeo. Now look at it! |

No that's fine. I pick up the car later then it's 2 hours of pita interior reassembly stuff.
Rick I thought you were a lawyer now? Was this reserves duty? |
I have a law degree, and it comes in handy.
Started an avionics company almost 20 years ago. Genesys Aerosystems. I'm the tech guru, test pilot, head developer type. Get to do a fair amount of interesting flying all over the world. But people generally don't shoot at me anymore, which is a plus. My official title is VP of Technology, but I'm usually called a lot worse. |

My Tire Castle received a shipment today. I traded my 205 used Rivals for 205 used Hoosier H20's. Win!
205 H20 on my 8" 6ULs. 225 Rc1 on my 9" 6ULs. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1425589797 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1425589621 Edit: that is the flank of Lazarus in the first picture; greddygalant mounted these up for me. |
Mmmmmm!!! Fresh stickers!

I thought I'd posted pictures of my oil cooler install, but apparently I haven't.
1" angle aluminum for two cross pieces that attach to the radiator fan bosses. 2" angle aluminum that bolts to the two cross pieces, and form the frame that the oil cooler is bolted to. I removed most of the side blocking airflow. On the bench: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1425684514 In the car: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1425684514 |

We're working on that. ER needs to be booked a month or two in advance, and in a month or two from now we've missed zero to one month of track season.

I can make Sunday work, I know Richard can't.
|
We finally found a spot in ERs schedule. We're tuning on the 11th. For all of the comparibility. Laz, Richard, and an N/A 1.6 will be going.
|
What time?
|
1:30 I think? We have 3 hours. I think Martin's being tuned first, since he has to leave, then we're throwing Luke's car on for a 1/2 hour to fine tune his 101hp, then we're finally going to see what Richard's car will do. I feel like it'll put down 220hp right now, I have no what spark changes will up that to. It's a really weird feeling, cause his max power is at max rpm, so you only get a sense of max power for a second before shifting. I think we determined he's around 9psi at redline, which puts him at 18-19 degrees according to his ignition table. We also plan on 8,000 rpm, we'll see what that does to boost/power output.
|
Don't think that timing would work for me even if there was extra time. Damn it.
|
Dang. I can't be there till after 6. :/

Dyno day tomorrow along with Lazarus.
Replaced my MAF today with a straight section of pipe. The MAF is 2.75"; Yank made me a lovely beaded section of pipe to replace it which turned out to be 2.5", but the silicone elbows clamped down fine. Thanks Yank! Re-organized the tire trailer for #allthetires. Now that I'm MS3, I don't have to run 92 E0 only (the stock ecu+xede never liked 92E10), so I don't have to carry fuel. I'll fill up with 92E0 where it's available for track days, mainly PIR and ORP, but otherwise any 92 will do now. The dyno tune will be done on 92E10. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1426038368 Guesses on numbers, post'em up! I'm going with 230whp/190wtq. |
235/185.

I'm putting the Kraftwerks licence plate frame on my car when the EFR goes in. ;) |
Haha yes!

There is a lot of rubbing each other off going on here. Good job on the circle jerk guys.

I'm going with less than laz/way less than laz
|
Well duh. That was never in doubt.
And YOU'RE WELCOME. Quick update while making dinner more later: 217/166 7.2k compared to 191/152 before. Now: RB header/midpipe, megasquirted, cnc head. Ati damper gives 145 crank pulley so I put the 88 on the rotrex to spin to 8k without overspeeding compressor. Numbers seem low but: 7psi. Yes, seven. I do jot seem to be flowing as much air from the rotrex as I should. I am pretty sure there are no shop rags in my intake. With the bov completely off, it would still make some boost, so I ccan't see intake restrictions as a possibility. |
In other words, you gained some torque and a titch of power from the MS and CNC head and header/midpipe, and the rest of the HP by turning it to 8k rpm.
Time to up the boost sir. Edit to point out that of the actual guesses mine was the closest :giggle: |
I'm out of boost is the point. I can't run the compressor any higher without over speeding it. I should be seeing at least 12 psi, but I'm only seeing 7. This is not readily explainable. there are no boost leaks, there are no intake restrictions, this leave only that the compressor is simply not flowing the air it should, which does not compute.
|
That's really funky. Have you double checked your pulley math and what not? 5psi is a big leak/difference.
|
less boost yet more power means the engine is breathing easier. I dont see anything wrong here
whether you should've gotten a bigger brotrex from the beginning is the better question now |
Yes, 1psi less, and he made 27hp and 14ft/lbs more.
My guess is you got sent the incorrect Rotrex. To give you an idea of gains, 1psi on Laz gave us 13hp today. That means 14psi on Richards would clearly give us 308*. Richard. Up the boosts. *Non-logical based prediction.

Laz made 243hp/246ft/lbs.

Solid numbers.
|
The only answer is more boost. I should have brought the damn pulley and we could have tried it there. The 80mm is going on. At 7500 rpm that puts me at 129k impeller rpm, a 7.5% overspeed. We'll see what happens.
The metal bits from broken impeller pieces supposedly fall out in the intercooler :) |

I guess anything is possible. Verification can be a simple measurement of the inlet. 49mm for the -64 vs 51mm for the -74. Page 7 on this PDF.
http://www.rotrex.com/media/7df7470f...30%20Range_pdf If they put the wrong one in the box it wouldn't be immediately obvious as the external dimensions are pretty much the same. Regardless, the C30-64 is the only smaller C30 series head unit, but even it should flow enough air for 300hp. But yes, something does not add up. |

PDF of dyno plot attached.
Today's max power run is red. Old engine is green. |

For those unfamiliar with the rotrex, max flow numbers look like this:
C30-64 will do 37lb/min* C30-74 will do 41lb/min* My EFR 6258 will do 44lb/min according to Full-Race. So yeah, something's fuckey. ALLOFIT should be quite a bit more. Have you changed your magical rotrex juice recently? *Converted from kg/s |
Pretty sure spin speeds are different though, no?
between the brorg and brotrexes? |

Shift light details? Build it or buy it? Looks sweet in your video!
|
Oh buy it. Definitely buy it. Unless you want to build it for a project, then build it.
It's the one that FM sells, I find it to be awesome. You don't have to get it from FM though, I got mine from ebay. I didn't save any money but the ebay seller could take my paypal monies and ship immediately whereas with FM that's still a manual wait-on-an-email slowass process. You can configure when the first light comes on, and when all the lights flash, and it then interpolates the rest. Mines currently set to 4k first light, 7200 all flash. Haven't updated it for the new motor yet. Edit: it's the Shift-i, here is their home page. |
Sorry for dumb question, what brand/what do I search to find it?
Also just a thought on the HP talk.... If you still have your MAF sensor upstream of the SC, try putting a vacuum gauge at the inlet of the SC and see if something upstream of it is chocking the flow up top. A diry air filter, or possibly the MAF could be causing a restriction holding back the powa! |
MAF was replaced by straight 2.5" pipe.
I put a link to the Shift-i manufacturer above. |

between the brorg and brotrexes? I also have that same shift light and i lurves it. Its rice as hell at first but you discover how hellafunctional it actually is. I went around FM and bought it directly from the manufacturer. Price was lower, exchange rate was in my favor and cost less to ship from Australia than it did from Colorado. Sorry FM :( My wife asked "what are all those green lights?" I told her they are varying degrees of superhappyfuntimes :giggle: |
My kids always want me to "make the lights go!" "When can we see the lights flash!"
It's not much of a problem with the stock muffler on, but with the Penthuza (I am trademarking that name, sorry Jason) we have to go to an onramp. |
