Just noticed the video.
This is MOST EXCELLENT :likecat:

TonyMontana 02-07-2018 08:22 PM

Thank you. As an aside I have the FM exhaust hangers and they are fantastic. The exhaust is rigid as shit. Just passing along that info as well. I’m happy as there are a few tight tolerances and there is little to no play in the exhaust so I’m not really worried about any contact.

sixshooter 02-08-2018 09:15 AM

Looking into the FM hangars...

So, will this be ready for a shakedown on Sunday at the airport? Looks like it is still at Proven Power.

TonyMontana 02-08-2018 09:23 AM

Doubtful...he’s doing my fuel pump, working on the reservoir for the exhaust, and gonna put it on the dyno while he has it 😀. His wait list is huge so he just told me if I want something done tell him now so he’s going to tune it.

sixshooter 02-08-2018 09:36 AM

Well, get it tuned, then!

TonyMontana 02-12-2018 09:41 PM

Fuel Pump setup finishing up. Looks good. Also getting close on the heat shield. Just waiting on a few other pieces for the exhaust valve. Moving forward.

Do you, uh.... need to block off that turbo shaft speed sensor port?

m2cupcar 02-13-2018 08:28 AM

I'm surprised he did not braze/weld the AN fuel fittings to the OE stubs- or even compression adapters. And ugh- those OE clamps. IMO this is much like the wiring- while you're in there.

No worries, that’s a blind hole. BW is nice enough to pre-machine the majority of the sensor mount for you. If you add a sensor you just take a hand drill to open it up the rest of the way.

Im not sure what exactly you are referring to? Can you explain?

Getting rid of the stock in/outs and rubber with bulkhead fittings, like this:

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7abc5b32e5.jpg

m2cupcar 02-14-2018 08:12 AM

Exactly- I bet your fabricator could even braze those to the OE stubs. Though I wonder if the OE stubs are now the choke point in the fuel system? Don't know if they're smaller ID than your new hose.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...827063ad8f.jpg

adding AN fittings to metal hard line:

18psi 02-14-2018 10:50 AM

it will probably choke, but at astronomical power levels that OP will never see (at least not with this setup)

TonyMontana 02-14-2018 02:54 PM

Maybe at another point.

heat shield is done and looks awesome

Exhaust solenoid is in too and wired in...he’s trouble shooting a voltage problem...the car starts and runs but the voltage is low...it’s a new alternator so I dunno...either shit alternator or some other issue.

Are you going to do anything with your air filter? Box it in or something?

I was thinking the same thing. Here I was, all proud of the heat shield that I built and even took time to grind off the sharp edges so they wouldn’t cut me.

Tony, a 135 degree coupler from Silicone Intakes will move that air filter mostly around the back of the heat shield.

Savington 02-14-2018 05:02 PM

You cannot pass a wire through a bulkhead into fluid like that. The submerged fuel pump connector is not sealed, so fuel will wick its way up that wire and out of the tank. Just FYI.

via the wire strands, inside the sheathing- right?

Given the heat shield, this guy could probably make a decent cold air box. :D

I’m confused as to what your saying. That wire isn’t submerged...if you look it’s the original wires down to the fuel pump with a new connector under the lid

Savington 02-14-2018 07:48 PM

Yup. Fluid will get inside the connector in the tank, underneath the insulation, wick its way up the wire, and then leak out at the external connector. You cannot pass wires through a sealed bulkhead for that reason. You have to terminate at the bulkhead inside the tank, pass the current through a bulkhead stud or other sealed connector, and then pick up the current with a new piece of wire once you're through the bulkhead.

ninerwfo 02-14-2018 08:35 PM

So is this okay? Don't actually mind ending in a ball of flame, just as long as its from a spectacular driver crash, not just because the wiring was wonky...

In Thailand for 2 weeks so will dive in when I return.

yeah he did...I was nervous for the glory pulls on the stock clutch...so I’ll just change it. I didn’t want to be worried about it at all. Yeah that fan is unreal lol...I opened the hood and was like Jesus lol.

TonyMontana 03-17-2018 12:14 PM

Long Shot:

Street tuning started. Anyone have a spark table for 8.6 supertech pistons up to 305 ish kPa. Want to compare notes lol. Grassy Ass.

TonyMontana 03-17-2018 04:55 PM

Car is feeling great...around the town cruising is nice. Low boost pulls as well. Car feels like its going to be an animal. A few minor things to adjust but overall car feels awesome. Thanks to Sixshooter for taking the time to help with the laptop.

I gladly work for booze and food.

It really feels eager and lively. The turbo comes on abruptly for its size. The engine makes significant vacuum at idle, more than mine. I'm looking forward to the track now.

Lol I appreciate it...Im planning on running the car ultimately between 25-30psi on 93 so I need to fine tune my spark table for that. On the dyno obviously I plan to do my glory pulls with some other table for whatever jungle juice I choose. Ultimately this car will spend its life running 93 since E85 isn't common here in Florida. Plan is to put 110 unleaded or something else just to see what number I can make. I've found spark tables up to my goal kpa but all are for e85. Ill keep browsing and seeing what I can come up with. Thanks for the offer.

How much more power do you think you will get out of E85? Im near Wesley Chapel and going with a very similar setup on my Exocet :)

sixshooter 04-10-2018 02:07 PM

Another local Exocet build? Sometimes I really wish I had one. With the weight savings, a 300 horsepower Exocet has to feel like a 450 horsepower Miata. Even more so being in the open air.

LTurner1 04-11-2018 08:23 AM

This build is absolutely stunning, you've also made me want to have my matt black 6UL's redone in gloss black, and have a colour matched hardtop too!

TonyMontana 04-14-2018 06:50 PM

Sorry for the lack of action here...Im in the process of purchasing a home here in Tampa and am going to be doing some upgrades to it so its taking a lot of my time. Trying to get the motivation to take off the transmission and fix the input shaft leak and put on the stronger clutch. With work and the house I've been dragging ass lately.

House pictures for the win...oversized detached 2 car garage with full bathroom inside. First thing is having the electrician come out and rewire the bitch to handle the garage equipment I have planned. Again sorry for the slow updates...just been busy as shit with other life stuff.

Lol theres a whole apartment above it so win. As far as stuff for the garage we will see...lots of ideas floating around but we will see what comes of it. A short lift will be likely...its a sub 10 ft roof but for a miata I can still get the car plenty high to make it more comfortable than being on my back. Im sure there will be plenty of other shit I find that I can't live without lol. Ill take suggestions haha.

m2cupcar 04-16-2018 07:57 AM

Any kind of lift is WIN in my book if it's in the budget. It's a huge time saver and advantage to be able to go under and above the car at will. Looking forward to the TonyMontana garage build thread. :D

9 and a half feet is enough to park an FD under a Miata on a lift. :)

I know its been several months but life has been not super awesome but Im going to go in a new car direction. Had the opportunity to buy a 993 911 from a partner at work for a reasonable price and Id like to get into tracking it so as to only have one toy Im going to part ways with this Miata. Car is as it sits per the last post...literally haven't touched it since moving into my house. Im just above 30k in parts and such and am going to ask 13k for the car. Car runs and has a few things left to do on it but I think for tall the parts and stuff on the car the price is reasonable. Appreciate all the comments and help as I was working on it but just want to move on from it.
