Progress is good...it’s a tight fit but he’s making it look very nice. Profile shot included to demonstrate the exhaust is above the rails.

I would always use one, personally.

18psi 01-30-2018 04:39 PM

and by always you mean many years ago when you actually had a car that was *gasp* modified? kekeke

I've never had one on my car. Whether or not it's a "race car" is open to debate.

We do not take exhaust lessons from heater unless the internet is to make ears bleed.

concealer404 01-30-2018 07:43 PM

Hasn't broken yet, though, so there's that.

vteckiller2000 01-30-2018 09:55 PM

FWIW I don't run one either. Last time I did the hangers ripped out and my exhaust folded in two. I did hit a wall at 120 mph at the time which may have had a part in the result.

Nice looking exhaust OP, make sure they are using thick hangers so it doesn't bang on the rear subframe/brace.

Savington 01-31-2018 11:48 AM

You need a flex joint or some form of downpipe brace to the transmission or drivetrain. The weight of the exhaust will wreak havoc on the entire turbo fastener system without one or both of those in the system.

TonyMontana 01-31-2018 08:24 PM

Car will have a DP support but no flex pipe. Welding progress looks nice. He's working on the bundle of snakes around the getrag.

Too bad that will be under your car where nobody can see it.

KMiata 02-01-2018 11:08 AM

That exhaust is really nice man. Fits well with all of the other high quality stuff going on. I need to see this thing in person one of these days.

The Getrag diffs are a little tricky to sneak 3" piping past, I just did this on my NB before MRLS and it turned out well, but not this pretty. Your fabricator is definitely more skilled than I am.

nigelt 02-01-2018 11:11 AM

The way the level is placed in the last pic makes it look like the car is upside down... Or is it? Maybe that's how they were able to make it look so good!

You doing dual exit exhaust? One with electric cutout and other after muffler?

Not sure yet...may have him fabricate something for me...need something for my oil cooler too under the bumper...ducting will be a project.

18psi 02-02-2018 02:16 PM

excellent work. and I personally absolutely love that cutout

2010 WRX Limited 02-02-2018 02:57 PM

This thread delivers. I like the cutoff too. brap.

TonyMontana 02-05-2018 09:10 PM

Almost there... a little more welding and making a vacuum reservoir for the valve. Plan is for 3 exhaust modes...full straight, full muffled, and variable which will be programmed through the megasquirt/MAC solenoid. I love the way it looks.

This makes a lot more sense now. I was wondering why you were just plugging the exhaust when it's closed lol! Looks freaking awesome, can't wait to see the end result.

Scaxx 02-05-2018 10:15 PM

Yeah I was pretty puzzled by that one as well haha, looking forward to hearing it!

sonofthehill 02-05-2018 10:31 PM

Cool!

18psi 02-05-2018 10:54 PM

Can’t say I’ve ever seen it done like that before, neat.
Though wouldn’t one of those varex mufflers do the same with Way less work?

ooja3k 02-05-2018 11:13 PM

Great looking work!!

sixshooter 02-06-2018 06:38 AM

Looks slow.

m2cupcar 02-06-2018 08:34 AM

Yeah- I think that design is definitely putting a priority on loud and fast. But I'm biased after racing loud cars forever, I just have zero interest in a loud street car.

Stealth97 02-06-2018 08:57 AM

That is the most doap exhaust I've ever seen

WigglingWaffles 02-06-2018 01:20 PM

I absolutely love that exhaust cut out. Ive never seen it done that way, 11/10

JohnAdams 02-06-2018 04:58 PM

What? You didn't like it before? Where is that temporary ban button? Lol.

TonyMontana 02-06-2018 08:52 PM

Stopped by the shop today to take a look. Looks so much cooler and person..the pictures do no justice. 2 issues noted.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cccd1ab9cf.jpg
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...644f7374ec.jpg

This is the fuel pump...it was intermittently working so he opened it up and took a look...fucked up as expected so he's going to wire up a custom connector with a relay I believe so I don't have this fucking shit going on in the fuel tank. Other issue thats just sorta annoying is the front seal on the transmission is leaking...there is a small drip under the trans...not the end of the world but just annoying...Im unsure what Ill do with this.

And for those waiting to hear the exhaust here ya go...only two modes right now...full open and full closed...variable not programed yet. What I can say is full open is stupid loud and full closed is stupid quiet...I love it...cant wait to play with the variable settings to have that bitch rage under throttle and boost.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2086af0e07.jpg

Super happy with everything.

Scaxx 02-06-2018 09:01 PM

Wow. That is quite the difference between those two!

sonofthehill 02-06-2018 11:20 PM

Amazing difference.

Maybe I better open my tank and do bulkhead connectors.

2slow 02-06-2018 11:37 PM

got another stock one and running but Ill watch this to see better solutions

TheBandit 02-07-2018 01:02 PM

I'm digging the cutout. Very clever routing. Hats off.

TonyMontana 02-07-2018 03:40 PM

No idea exactly...I have the DW 300 too but its very concerning to see lol.

DNMakinson 02-07-2018 04:25 PM

18psi 02-07-2018 05:14 PM

which is quoted from or worded nearly identical to dw's instructions, however unless you have a clog or pushing it REALLY hard, I don't see you melting wires....

sonofthehill 02-07-2018 05:49 PM

The way that connector is melted looks like it was a loose connection.

TonyMontana 02-07-2018 07:46 PM

Well it’s being corrected so all is good...just pointing it out in case others have a similar experience.
