I'm more concerned/upset with the lack of real time baro correction... kind of why i went with a custom ecu in the first place...

So have Vlad hook up an external MAP and use the on-board MAP for baro.

thumpetto007 02-24-2016 06:42 PM

There is something wrong with the on board map sensor. I have an external map to use, but vlad is scared of wiring :)

If the on board sensor worked properly, I could at least key off, then back on at higher altitudes, and I could live with that compromise.

I don't know the details, but if he turns on some active map setting in tunerstudio, I get an ultra rich condition for like 10 minutes after startup.

Vlad will chime in, I'm sure.

18psi 02-24-2016 07:04 PM

I already outlined/specified the problem earlier in the thread.
If it's a really simple matter of wiring up 1-2 wires, I can do that.
Opening the MS3 and re-soldering stuff, nope.

thumpetto007 02-24-2016 08:16 PM

haha yeah, I know.

Just as long as we can get the key off key on correction, i can live with that

went to the track, had a blast! mainly because of the company ;)

they really suck at staging cars here... one run per HOUR... I could get 3-5 runs per hour back at milan dragway in michigan... and just as busy.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1456679417

We didn't set up launch control for these passes, but we were fooling around on the street, seemed to make a difference. I could just focus on slipping the clutch just enough.

Also.... FFS!!!

Erat 02-28-2016 06:23 PM

Milan knows what they're doing.
TnT on Wednesdays i can get in just before 4pm when the doors open and hot lap it without ever shutting the car off. Get 5 or 6 runs in in 25 minutes and head home.

posted megasquirt issues in new thread

https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...9/#post1312114

thumpetto007 03-05-2016 06:42 PM

So I connected ground and power to the oem BOOST sensor, and extended a wire through the firewall from the remaining wire (not sure what to call it.. sensor readout? idk)

Now, where/how do I connect this wire to the megasquirt?

Do i push it into any of the external ports?

Do i need to change anything internally in the megasquirt?

Please be as specific and thorough as possible.

Thanks

2730? Is that with you in it? Are you 95lbs?

Not bad numbers, smooth flat curve.

18psi 03-05-2016 07:56 PM

that's his 2400lb NB2 with two of us in it. we weigh 190 each.

it's actually off though, because VD uses 2350 for the weight. his car is heavier

so in reality dyno should read higher. but who cares. this was comparing the pre vs post flattop porting.

his car makes healthy power.

we raced, lol, multiple times against my same year same weight NB2. he pulls away in every gear

Erat 03-05-2016 07:57 PM

This things really get weighted down with some people in it. That's pretty dang good crank HP.

thumpetto007 03-05-2016 08:10 PM

^haha, yeah, we are stocky mugs.

I think we tuned a bit more after the port matching and got like 131 hp in three different pulls...

Either way, not bad for stock intake and exhaust.

Shooting for high 200's whp with ID1000s and IC'd Rotrex... but you know, the kit is still years away.

Well, OP is leaving Suck-rah-mento today and taking the long trip back to Utah.

This was seriously a lot of fun (sometimes more than others lol), and I can say that we have become friends after all this :)

There are still some issues to work out with this car, but it runs well and we got a TON of stuff done to it.

@Reverant
There are issues with the MS3 basic that OP got, in addition to the ones already outlined in the MS section thread. OP will be contacting you about those and I'll outline them more in that thread. (hint: his DB37 appears to be missing more than HALF of the inputs/outputs outlined in the instructions. not sure if those were missed or left out intentionally for some reason. also his CAN unit still acts up every now and then causing all sorts of terrible-ness in fueling)

@emilio700
There is an issue with one of the xidas on this car. front right I believe. it clunks very loudly. OP will be contacting you about them since he bought them pre-assembled and we've checked everything over 5,000 times to make sure absolutely nothing was installed incorrectly or clunking on the rest of the suspension.

Other than the above, the car is much quicker, handles amazing, and now that OP got the lip kit painted and installed, it actually looks sexier too :)

Reverant 03-14-2016 09:39 AM

I don't wire each and very input/output on the DB-37, just the ones you're most likely to use. Were you able to get a datalog of the issue with new ini installed?

18psi 03-14-2016 10:02 AM

Oh, well that explains our confusion when we opened it up then.

Yes, I'll upload the logs we did get to the other thread.

Also it started giving an error message on the last day "unable to communicate with CAN" or something like that. I'll see if we can send you a screen shot.

Basically it completely stopped being able to datalog as of Saturday. Every time you open TS it gives you that error, and after you log the car, you open the log and it error's out in MLV saying "data corrupted or no data" or something like that. again, I'll upload screenshots.

I've no idea why it suddenly started doing that, but we ran out of time and couldn't diagnose it further. And we still couldn't hook up BARO correction because OP tried to solder in the connection and just couldn't do it.

thumpetto007 04-10-2016 01:37 PM

c30-94 rotrex kit purchased.

ID1000 injectors purchased.

255 wally high pressure purchased.

OS Giken Purchased.

I might actually hit 100kpa at 9000feet!

thumpetto007 04-10-2016 02:52 PM

should i get the 3.6 rear end gears? or just stay with the 3.9 (what i think i have)

18psi 04-10-2016 03:30 PM

Ohhh snapppppp!!

Stick with current 3.9 Torsen and see how you like the car with the new power before you commit to a fd with the giken
.....is what id do

thumpetto007 04-10-2016 03:33 PM

Yeah shit is gunna get real. fast.

The pulley it comes with is good for 13psi at 7000rpm, supposedly. I might need to find a bigger pulley for less boost, I really don't want more than 260whp.

Correction... i want more, but not on this engine.

18psi 04-10-2016 03:35 PM

Youll be fine

Though id have got the dw300 over the wally

Just copy Gordon's (EO2K) fuel set up completely

thumpetto007 04-10-2016 03:39 PM

Oh yeah? I can just email emilio and have him cancel it.

I'll check out EO2K's fueling...

18psi 04-10-2016 03:42 PM

Yah and im sure emilio and everyone has dw300s in stock too
@EO2K

Hey Gordon correct me if I'm wrong but you were running the 300 with an adjustable fpr and return system and id1k right?

thumpetto007 04-10-2016 04:14 PM

Will I need to convert my fuel system? or are the id1000s and the dw300 good enough?

18psi 04-10-2016 04:14 PM

the answer is yes.

but really: it's "good enough" but if you want the best, you'll need to go return-style

EO2K 04-11-2016 11:38 AM

Pretty close! I'm running a DW200 and Fuelab 53501-1 regulator 1:1 boost referenced plumbed in return and ID1000s @ 60psi base pressure (I think its 60, I should go check that.) For the physical return line I'm using a main fuel line I harvested out of another NB so zero restriction back to the tank.

The DW200 should IN THEORY be able to supply enough fuel for like 400hp with E85 but I'm not 100% sure it can do that at the base pressure I've chosen to use. The DW300 will be able to do it but I'll need to upgrade my wiring.

After speaking with the guys from Fuelab I chose the 535 series "mini" regulator because it was easier to mount and at "lower volumes" it has a better regulation slope. Please understand that "lower volume" is a relative term here, life starts for the Fuelab crew at 500hp and its usually on something with more than 4 cylinders.

I suspect you will never run out gasoline with a DW200 if the wiring is addressed. I'm making somewhere just north of 300hp on CA91 crapgas with my current setup.

If more questions, please feel free to ask!

Awww :) i just saw this post.

Same here man, what a fun, unexpected friendship!

18psi 04-12-2016 10:46 AM

:likecat: can't wait for the "next chapter" in this car's life that will include boost

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 11:22 AM

haha, same here. I'm taking whatever day the supercharger kit comes, off for work, and installing everything.

Then driving 24 miles to the nearest parts store and getting a belt, then driving around with some boost and a light foot, enjoying the noises! Hopefully the c30-94 isn't super loud lol.

Oh, do you think you could edit my tables to be populated up to 196kpa? just so we have a base tune? the only changes are the supercharger, id1000s and the 255 hp wally pump. I decided not to do the return style fuel yet, or get an afpr. What tables would have to change? I want to target 12.5 AFR at wot.

My email is marmarchesini@yahoo.com if you didn't have that already.

Girz0r 04-12-2016 11:49 AM

What afr you want to target may not be what the motor wants :dunno:

18psi 04-12-2016 11:54 AM

LOL LOL LOL

"The only changes"

..

"Forced induction and completely different fuel system"

that's it? just that?

But anyways, yes I can do that, but:

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, we need your MS3 unit fixed, installed, and all the barometric issues squared away.

DO NOT

I repeat

DO NOT

install or change anything until that's done.

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 11:54 AM

yeah that's true, we'll have to figure out what it wants.

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 11:56 AM

nooooooo. That will be SOOOOOO long of a wait. But moooom.....

He hasn't even started building it.

18psi 04-12-2016 11:57 AM

So you're keeping the current one in the car in the mean time?

We can at least get it working decent in it's current state. Scaling the maps will be easy. the injectors, on the other hand, will require tuning. extensive tuning.

I'm gonna need you to start learning how to log properly, and send me logs, and also how to use autotune. VE table will need major tweaks with ev14 injectors (id1k's)

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 12:17 PM

yeah i'm keeping the current one for now.

I can log, and get a file, but i just remembered it wasn't actually saving data. I would start and stop the log, and it would change at the bottom of tuner studio, but then the file would only be like 5kb. Out of 8 logs, all done with the same procedure, only one saved data.

IIRC that was one where I wasn't moving, just an idle.

So i send you the log file via email?

I would guess we will take out fuel over the whole table first, and go from there?

18psi 04-12-2016 12:46 PM

yeah figure out the logging issue cause if you can't open the logs, I can't open the logs.

yeah you can send them via email, np.

you actually have to add fuel into the VE table for the bigger injectors, mostly at idle and cruising cells, after you scale REQ_Fuel and all the offsets/deadtimes and such

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 03:42 PM

Why add fuel? is the chamber of the injector larger, or something? Just curious.

18psi 04-12-2016 03:44 PM

Because reasons :likecat:

LOL I actually don't know the real reason, just that it's what we've all had to do to get them to work with megasquirt.

Reverant 04-12-2016 03:55 PM

Remove the ini file for the CAN module and the logs should work ok. I found out that if Tunerstudio loses the connection to the module ("CAN1 went offline"), all TS logs thereafter are garbage.

18psi 04-12-2016 03:57 PM

that definitely makes sense, because the car was logging just fine until he asked me to load the .ini file to try to fix the freezing wideband input

thumpetto007 04-12-2016 03:59 PM

So for this ecu, i remove the .ini file, and when I get the new one (hopefully without connectivity issues) i put it back?

18psi 04-12-2016 04:26 PM

the new one should already be loaded with the .ini for both your project and the CAN module

and you or I can email Reverant a copy of the tune

Reverant 04-13-2016 02:26 AM

BOIIIIINNNG!!! OS Giken has arrived! (with the diff honey lol) will put up pictures tonight!

decided to go with the 3.63 gears... cruising over 5500rpm is no fun. I'll have plenty of power/torque for a 7% difference in final drive.
