For the street, I disagree.
For racetrack, it's likely better.

aidandj 07-12-2016 12:56 PM

Orders product.

Compares to other well known product before even receiving the new product.

Also isn't it pretty well known that FM clutches are just custom comp clutches?

You should also buy an EFR to spool your Brotrex :giggle:

He got a defective TOB with his. They sent him a brand new replacement.
Time to buy a whole new drivetrain:D

Yeah, I'm the armchair killer lol. (aka dumbass) I would have bought the SM clutch last year, but it wasn't available.

I was legit thinking about that. After the built motor, just see if the TSE kit can squeeze an efr 6758 in there.

You're always sprung bbgurl :magna:

thumpetto007 07-12-2016 02:16 PM

Too bad whenever I tell all the babes, they just walk away.

thumpetto007 07-14-2016 01:35 AM

Soooo, does anyone know if vinyl vehicle wrap stays on at high speeds? I'll need to wrap my car, or at least the doors, hardtop, hood, and trunk.

Although isnt there some paint I can buy that peels off afterwards? I know about plastidip, this is different. I got rid of the stickynote that had the paint information.

Or anyone know of a place that can paint parts cheap with the oem colors? I went to Diamond Autosport in Sac, and they were extremely expensive. Like I'm embarassed how much I paid for my sideskirt paint.

Mobius 07-14-2016 02:16 AM

You shouldn't be embarrassed about any of your skirts; you're already a miata owner.

icantlearn 07-14-2016 04:17 AM

vinyl wrap won't come off. Ive seen it done on a few cars.

18psi 07-14-2016 09:06 AM

Both wrap and dip won't come off. You can vinyl wrap or plastidip. Either way, have someone do it for you cause it's a giant pain in the butt to do the whole car for a 1st timer (been there, done that).

I've got a "paint guy" that is really cheap in Sac now (Diamond Auto is garbage ripoff). His work isn't top quality, but his prices are unbeatable. just FYI

hi_im_sean 07-14-2016 10:08 AM

Dip will indeed come off. Ive seen the hood peel off of a gtr on a straight. It seems like any little nick or tear will allow air to start forcing its way under.

aidandj 07-14-2016 10:10 AM

I have a dipped hardop. Its been fine at speed for a while now.

18psi 07-14-2016 10:28 AM

Maybe if you're getting bead blasted by rocks it will rip/peel.

My experience has been same as aidans: Dip holds up like a CHAMP, actually surprised with how tough it is.

thumpetto007 07-14-2016 09:53 PM

GoPro came in, with remote, suction cup mount, external mike, carrying case and 5 batteries lol.

Finally got a good quality phone suction mount. Arkon is the brand name.

Lots of suction.

Got in touch with Rev/Dimitris, ECU finally shipping, albeit in a blue case instead of a black one. I told him it could be pink, purple, glittery with rainbows all over, I'll take it lol.

tbh, I'd prefer it that way.

icantlearn 07-15-2016 03:47 AM

I think Rev is shipping our ECU's together.... or maybe not idk.

18psi 07-15-2016 09:29 AM

Yeah I'm pretty sure he makes them in batches to save on shipping.

This is good news. If you get it in the next few weeks we will start t00ning asap.

thumpetto007 07-15-2016 11:14 AM

I'm still over 1 month away from having a transmission.

SAD DAYS ARE STILL UPON ME

aidandj 07-15-2016 11:16 AM

I'm sure vlad has a spare trans laying around somewhere.

sonofthehill 07-15-2016 12:03 PM

I currently still have an extra 5 speed I could haul to Vlad's, not sure how long I will have this spare though.

18psi 07-15-2016 01:09 PM

lol I have a handful of 6 speeds, no worries there.

But regular 6 speeds are not good enough for Mr. Fancy pants, cause his was perfectly fine (before he molested it) and even then he complained that it was "grinding".

So he's getting a baller shot-caller NASCAR spec trans

I can't wait to feel it, I hope it's as good as we're expecting.

icantlearn 07-15-2016 02:12 PM

$$$$$$

thumpetto007 07-15-2016 02:33 PM

Haha, yep. Only the best for Papi Chulo.

Everyone will want to feel my shifter at MMRLS :)

I also like being called Mr. Fancy Pants. I'll change my thingy.

thumpetto007 07-16-2016 01:29 AM

Found this video...

guy has a bigger rotrex than me, running a smaller pulley, built motor, flattop, full exhaust and the car is still really slow. I don't even want to supercharge the car anymore. ugh.

GUYS. THERE IS A REASON THERE ISN'T A ROTREX MIATA WEBSITE. ROTREX MIATAS ARE SLOW.

TURBO YOUR CAR.

god I"m dumb.

aidandj 07-16-2016 01:32 AM

Lolololol. Now he realizes this. After we all got bitched at for hating on rotrexes.

Do a v8 swap. Seriously. It will probably be the only thing that does what you want. And then turbo it if that's not enough.

thumpetto007 07-16-2016 01:38 AM

That is really weird, I was thinking the same thing. I came across the v8 roadster kits...

ugh. I think I've just not been thinking straight, not driving the miata for so many months. I'll probably enjoy the rotrex, it just wont be fast.

I have to remind myself that the rotrex is just an intermediate build, for a couple years to get good at driving. Then maybe just drop the car off at FM and get a LS9 turnkey car.

Or just get a c6 z06. idk. WAHT IS LIFE ANYMORE. i just wanna go fast and have fun.

Mobius 07-19-2016 02:11 AM

The Rotrex is the "I wanna go faster easy" button. Easy on the engine. Underhood temps are minimal. Maintenance needs are low. You don't worry about your brake or clutch reservoirs overheating and puking with a rotrex. If you want to beat on and flog the car, drive it hard, have boost, and not have to worry about maintenance, Rotrex is your answer.

But it's not going to win a lot of street pulls, necessarily.

I can tell you this - having just this weekend autocrossed an NA NB2, compared to an almost identical NB2 with the very same engine with a C30-74, NA is a lot slower. The "torqueless" rotrex is still giving you more, everywhere.

18psi 07-19-2016 09:12 AM

He will change his mind about 69 more times before it's done, don't worry, lol

thumpetto007 07-19-2016 11:23 AM

Thanks guys, I just have to STAY THE COURSE.

Mobius, that does make me feel better. That is why I chose the rotrex over a turbo, at least for the time being. I am looking for a faster car, that I can drive hard, and have fun. Do every single session in my run group at the track, and not turn a single wrench.

I did that this weekend with my turbo car

Then I drove it to work the next day

thumpetto007 07-22-2016 04:26 PM

ATI super damper came in, damaged... :/ the "buy expensive stuff and they ship defective" curse continues. Called FAB9 and they will be sending a replacement.

Setrab oil cooler kit came in, looks good. Not sure if I have enough oil line. I was planning on mounting the oil cooler on the side of the Rotrex cooler bracket, there is very good ducting to bring air to that section of inner bumper (courtesy of Track Dog Racing's thoroughness) However, that is a lot of oil line (and oil capacity) to move, maybe it would negatively effect other radiators, and oil pressure.

I'll find a place for it, eventually.

Do i have to add oil like topping off coolant? Have to get the car up to temp, wait for the oil thermostat to open, then add oil? Seems tricky.

18psi 07-22-2016 04:28 PM

seems pretty straightforward lol

Chiburbian 07-22-2016 09:40 PM

What is damaged? I didn't even check the one I bought.

thumpetto007 07-22-2016 10:52 PM

^ the damper looks like it was dropped off a table or something. Edge material is bent over the ribbing for a belt. Erin packed the pulley. I blame her. The bubble wrap wasn't damaged in the least. Damage occured before wrapped.

sorry about the size. I can't use the email app anymore (which let me resize the images as I was attaching them)

thumpetto007 07-22-2016 10:53 PM

Yeah, I used to not check parts as soon as I got them, since I never had issues.

But with this miata, holy shit. I have to go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

Most of the pressure drop happens across the core. The lines being 5ft vs 10ft isn't going to make a substantial difference, especially with the -10AN line we use.

10ft should be enough to run the cooler Bosozoku style in front of the bumper. If you think you need more, I'll gladly sell you more, but I've never had an install take more than about 7-8ft of line in total. 10ft should be plenty.

The thermostat allows ~10% flow at all times to maintain system pressure, and the core is self-bleeding as long as you orient the fittings up (make sure to read the instructions on our website). If you really want to know the exact volume change, you can fill the core with oil before you install it, measure that volume, and then calculate the internal volume of the lines before installing them. Rough ballpark is <1qt but your exact amount will vary depending on core size and length of lines. What I typically do is pour 4 quarts in the top of the motor, let the car idle for 1-2 minutes, then shut it off, wait 30 seconds, and check the oil. Top up and go.

I feel your pain, sir! Have had a few bad new parts myself recently.

thumpetto007 07-23-2016 02:17 PM

I feel like quality control has really taken a hit in the past few years. Literally the only company I haven't had a defective part from, in the past TWO years, is rock auto.

Thanks for the response Sav. I'm glad to hear the thermostat has a small bypass.

aidandj 07-23-2016 02:18 PM

Fwiw I've had multiple defective rockauto orders.

patsmx5 07-23-2016 02:21 PM

I've ordered parts from Rockauto for years and years, and they only messed up my order once. And they shipped me a new part for free, with overnight shipping, and said keep the wrong one I received.

I agree QC is something that is super lacking. I've had good luck with FM though, they seem to be pretty good in my experience. Well packaged and whatnot, haven't had any issues with them and I've had several orders from them over the years.

aidandj 07-23-2016 02:23 PM

Rockauto never messed my order up. Just defective parts. All they do is box up parts from their suppliers.

patsmx5 07-23-2016 02:24 PM

Actually that was my experience, the box was correct, but the part inside the box was wrong.

thumpetto007 07-23-2016 04:12 PM

For me, quality control isn't some nice lady who calls me to make sure I'm happy with the part I just ordered.

I don't care if they are the rudest, most insulting people on the planet. If they send me a part, and it's high quality, well designed, not defective, as in, someone actually inspected the product before packing, idgaf. I'm happy.

icantlearn 07-23-2016 04:17 PM

Well, I like ladies that call me to make sure my parts are ok :naughty:

thumpetto007 07-23-2016 04:33 PM

lol. Maybe if they called to check my pants.

thumpetto007 07-24-2016 02:17 PM

So, after the rotrex install, and hoosiers, I should be able to get laps about this fast? Pumped up for MMRLS

icantlearn 07-24-2016 08:47 PM

Thats a little slower than my pace but you get the idea.....

thumpetto007 07-24-2016 09:43 PM

Yeah holy shit. I didn't time the laps in the video, but I've watched plenty of sub 2 minute laguna laps in a miata, and they looked like slow motion.

codrus 07-24-2016 10:08 PM

F1 cars at Laguna do about 1:06 when driven properly.

Savington 07-25-2016 04:40 PM

Potato video and quiet exhaust, but still lapping in the 1:36s :)
