I'm still waiting on bandaging tape so I can cover the wounds with gauze for bed and work tomorrow lol.
I already showered and scrubbed pretty hard on all the scrapes. I also covered them with neosporin |

Been there, done that. Definitely subcutaneous fat.

Lol, I didn't even want to see it.
|
Eww. At least you didn't break your jaw.
|
yeah, I didn't hit my head or anything. I really slid for a while, I'm already joking with people that i was looking at my watch as I slid, like am I going to stop anytime soon?
But It hurts more with bandaging on, for sure. |
Google "3M Tegaderm". It's a clear adhesive bandage that allows the wound to breathe without getting infected. You can also watch for bad shit happening, and you don't have to change it nearly as often (IIRC you swap them every 5-7 days). It also keeps the wound moist so you don't end up with super-tight scar tissue. It's a little pricey but absolutely worth it. BTDT, my hand is just about back to full mobility after I fell on it 18 months ago from ~30mph on my road bike.
|
Oh shit. 18 months is a long recovery time...I am lucky to have decent dexterity in both of my hands.
I just purchased a lot of them, and in different sizes. I'm guessing they are waterproof, and stick pretty good, if they last that long. Do you have any experience in rashguards, or other protective measures against road rash? Short of wearing a motorcycle racing suit every time? |

Tegaderm is a synthetic skin, so it lets oxygen out but it won't let water in. It's pretty cool stuff. You can wear it through showers and sleep with it on. IIRC the only caveat with it is that you want to remove and drain/clean things if it starts to fill with fluid. The worst thing you can do is puncture it and leave it on (infection city). I am not a doctor, though, so talk to one if you see something that you don't like. Do you have any experience in rashguards, or other protective measures against road rash? ah, OK, I'll make sure to make a fist often with my more affected hand. Hopefully that will help with healing properly.
Yeah, I found these two piece oval pads that clip over fabric. I'd have to wear leggings and long sleeve, but i guess if i fell, I'd be fine. So I guess i have to decide if its worth putting on all that gear every single time i go out with the bike or not. From a safety standpoint, its a nobrainer, but it really kills the whole "wind on my skin, spontaneous" feeling. Thanks for all your help. |

So... here's an update.
suspension, transmission, diff pumpkin are all out of the car. Sitting pretty on furniture dollies, one under each subframe. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463179864 Here's the pile O parts... sending the xidas for a (hopefully) warranty replacement, with my luck it will be just a rebuild. Transmission is UPS freighting to JO Motorsports for a brass shifter setup with a full race rebuild. I HATE the way the trans shifts, I want it smooth and fast. Also will try Ford Motorcraft fluid on the rebuild, maybe that will help the baller synchros. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463179864 Here is the delrin bushing kit hi_im_sean makes. Every part is labelled. comes with the zerk fittings. Some of the sleeves were too short, I didn't even know yet, and Sean sent replacements right away. He is very thorough and informative. Dont hesitate to ask him questions about his product (in the bushing megathread first!) https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463179864 Professional packaging to boot... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463179864 |

lol,
Interested in the bushings, may need to get some myself. Luff your car color, looks cleean. |

You need to make covers for the wheel wells and tell people you converted it into a hovercraft.
|
And then you can tell people it's what you bulls-eye womp rats in back home

lol got a good chuckle out of that!
Another little update... I have had the Flyin Miata stage 1 clutch for under 3000 miles, and the pressureplate has a very deep groove from the throw out bearing. Just typical for me... buy premo parts, send literally all of them back for quality control reasons. Here's a pic... the groove is about 1/4 of the way through the metal fingers. completely unacceptable, considering almost all the miles are highway in 6th gear. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463237897 FM will be sending a new HD TOB and stage 2 pressure plate... I didn't like how soft the engagement was, we'll see if this is better.... I'm so tempted to just go with the SuperMiata twindisk, just because I wouldn't have to worry about a clutch until I build the engine. |
what makes you think you wouldn't destroy the twin disk?
the damage on those fingers are clearly not from too much power |
Ceramic twin disc will suck on the street. Also will be more expensive to replace when the TOB wears through the plate.
|
Are you riding the clutch pedal? Did you have slave/fork foreplay after install?
|
No, i don't ride the clutch. Clutch pedal was also properly adjusted.
18psi can comment about the foreplay. :giggle: FM said the tob might have been faulty, it doesn't spin easily right now.

that would make sense.
usually there's wear marks on most of them, but they're never grooved or deep. |
UPDATE!!! Johnny at OG racing is helping me with a hocotex suit, shoes, gloves, hans sport 2, aaaaaand NOVEC(iirc) fire system!!! I'll be legit, guys!
Now I actually have to go to the track, so I'm not a track day poser. |

Your order from OG Racing has shipped!
Aaaaah, I have to wait! ETA 5/26 by end of day. In preparation for the novec kit, I've purchased cable tie saddle mounts, tubing cutter, thomas and betts cable ties, small, short screws, and a tubing bender. |

Yeah, i did, the Victory Rs4... its the cheapest hocodex option.
On an unrelated note, JO Motorsports will be hardening the shift forks in my transmission. among other awesome mods. |

Received a few items today...
drill and other stuff for the 1/4 npt tap, adding a breather on the exhaust side catch can, we'll see what happens lol https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464220827 the screws and cable tie blocks I ordered ended up the wrong sizes. Screws are too short, and the width of the cradle on the blocks is about 1/8inch too wide for the aluminum tubing the SPA Extreme SFI 5 fire kit comes with. Tubing turned out to be 5/16 if anyone needs to know that. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464220827 The 5 pound canister system has been tested to function properly with three nozzles, so that's what I got. Two nozzles in the top corners of the engine bay, aimed diagonally across engine, and one nozzle in the cabin facing the occupants. I'm thinking of mounting that nozzle on the passenger side trans tunnel area, just above the canister. The canister is supposed to be mounted parallel to the trans tunnel, but perpendicular to it in front of the passenger seat is fine too. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464220827 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464220827 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464220827 |
Stay tuned, tomorrow I'm expecting the racing apparel/gear... so I'll be taking a couple really silly photos in full garb.
|
The good:
Just found out JO Motorsports will be cryo treating the gears in my transmission! What a nice surprise! The bad: There has been a great deal of issues with UPS Freight. I urge everyone to avoid using UPS freight. |

I've been slowly emailing back and forth with Guardian Designs about a modified steering wheel. I would really like a smaller diameter wheel, OEM quality, maintaining an airbag.
They offer rewrapped, D shaped, and 0 shape wheels. I didn't think a D shape would give me enough leg room if the wheel was turned, maybe I'm wrong.... either way, they will be discussing taking on making a completely custom wheel, using two steering wheel cores. If they decide not to take on that project, I'll just go with a D shape. Here is an example, I would be going with the perforated napa leather all the way around, the two different textures isn't appealing to me. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464312643 |

SAUCEY! |
I knew you'd like it!
The gloves are like a second skin, very perfect fit, hopefully will get a bit more comfortable with wear. Shoes fit perfectly on my left foot, but my right, which is a bit bigger, hits my toes a bit. It shouldn't be that big of a deal if I cut my toenails really short. Hans is weird, but i guess it fits ok, doesn't restrict head movement AT ALL... not sure if that is a good thing. nomex socks were much thinner than i expected... Suit fits well, but is warmer than I expected. I was still over heating in 60 degree weather with wind... I'm a warm boy... I'll have to look into ice shirts or whatever they call them |
Updates...
Transmission is STILL stuck at the UPS Freight Hub. They won't release it to JO Motorsports. It's been two weeks at their hub. NEVER USE UPS FREIGHT! I have had enormous difficulty at every step of the shipping process with them. GuardianDesigns got back to me about a smaller diameter wheel, they say that they can't invest the R&D to provide a safe product, so they just recommend the D shape wheel for me. |
UPS FREIGHT FINALLY RELEASED MY TRANSMISSION!!!!
Jason of JO Motorsports will begin my transmission, and thanks to UPS Freight, which none of you should ever use, only 3 weeks late. |
bro
is it time for ALLOFIT yet? |
haha not yet. ECU is almost finished, installing that and praying it works is the first step.
Also Inertia Labs is still deciding if the XIDA shock that seized 4 months into ownership is warrantiable... who knows how long that will take. Still waiting on the bracketry, intake, and rotrex oil cooler from Trackdog. I gotta be patient! I might have to just wait to install the rotrex when I get back to caaali, not sure how long all this stuff will take. |
do it
DO IT!! I want to make this thing a nasty naughty tire shredding machine. bring it to cali and lets make it happen cap'n |
This sounds like fun. I might be willing to drive to Sac and donate a few hours labor one day.
Also on the subject of cryo treatment of parts. I have been given access to an entire shelf of a -80 freezer for part experiments. There is regular delivery of LN2 there as well if I get my own dewar. Should I be treating all my steel parts before I build my motor? Maybe disassemble my spare 5 speed and treat everything in there too. :dunno: |
^That' isn't cold enough to align the metallurgy. I might be wrong, but I think cryo treatments happen around -300F
but yeah! the more the merrier, and just so you know, we joke around A LOT!

Yeah, I figured as much, I will fit right in. If Vlad doesn't mind, I don't want to piss off his neighborhood with too many obnoxious Miatas at one time.
I have a thought to use the racks in a dewar to build a shelf, so I could go maybe a week in the -80. A week of the vapor phase in the dewar on the upper shelf. Then finally a week submerged in LN2 on the lower shelf. Maybe pull stuff out the same way. I think the older style dewars can be picked up relatively cheap and they have a bigger opening. |
Yeah should be fun... does vlad have your number? Don't worry about his neighbors! They all know, lol.
ahh, i missed the LN2 part, yeah that should be great! I think it's beneficial for most parts, except springs and bearings, could be wrong, though |
Pretty sure he's got my number, but it isn't difficult for us to connect. All I have to do is post a quick timeslip.
:giggle: |
sext me later broz. too busy right now
|
so after 3 1/2 weeks, Inertia Labs has finished the inspection of my XIDAs.... They will be shipped back to me this week, but the email didn't give me any details, just a little teaser... they really know how to get a girl wet with anticipation.

the top hat photo shows wear caused by a manufacturing defect in the xidas. A ring of metal was just hanging out there. I bought the pre-assembled xidas. second photo shows the innards of the tractive shock (xida) Xida shocks are supposed to seize at the very top 1/4 of travel, due to the little hole passing through the bushing. This is interesting, but doesn't effect the performance of the shocks, other than if you go airborn, and you probably won't notice anything. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1466573532 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1466573532 So does this mean XIDAs are meant to make a shit ton of noise? I swear to the car gods, if these still make insane clunking noises, I'm buying custom shocks. Penske or some shit. I don't care. |
dibs on xidas
|
^haha thanks for the vote of confidence!
But yeah, in the likely event that I will get Alex from T&A Motorsports (he makes penske shocks for the ford gt, and mustang racing teams, he was a local guy to me when I lived in Michigan) to make some Penskes for me... you are first in line, just a fyi, the xidas have 800/500 springs. Oh snap, I just had an idea.... maybe Emilio and Alex can do a little collab... make some small batch high end shocks for the miata.... OH BAYBEEE |
No they won't.
Put the car back together, let's make it proper fast, and go rage-rape it on track til your face falls off from grinning. like a man |
Just that post had me grinning!
As I'm sure you remember, "I ain't no pussy" lol But yeah I'm more than ready to have a fast car again. It's been SOOOOOOOO long. |
you are mistaken
the correct term was: I AINT NO B**** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *crazy I-will-rape-you face while flat-foot-shifting through an intersection* good times:likecat: |
^I'm glad you keep me in line!
Good times indeed! Many more to come, I'm sure! Update!!!!!! the track dog intake, supercharger bracket, hardware, and upgraded rotrex oil cooler kit has arrived!!!! I am very impressed at the thoroughness and quality of TDR. All the hardware is in little baggies, and all items were packed well. An EXTREMELY DETAILED instruction manual was also included (like 100 tabbed pages) with a flash drive containing the PDF version. Wow. At first I was upset, as I took the oil cooler out, because it had very minimal padding/packing, but then I realised the aluminum mounting bracket doubled as a packaging shield, very cool. I'll be uploading a picture tonight. Honestly, I will be very surprised if ANY company out there can beat the quality of the TDR Rotrex kit, at least pre-installation. I will obviously be vocal and honest about the installation, and throughout the months following. |

If anyone is interested in the pricing of rebuilding tractive style shocks (XIDAs) at Inertia Labs Texas, here's a rundown... as of June 2016
Rebuild Service for Tractive Shock--- 150.00 per shock Cleaning service of Strut/Shock--- 15.00 per shock Top Mount/Spring Removal and Reassembly---10.00 per shock Inspection of strut/shock to evaluate condition of oil, seals, shims, etc.---75.00 per shock XIDA Rebound Adjuster Knob (orange)---20.00 per knob The rebuild, inspection, and return shipping was covered under XIDA warranty. Not sure who covers that, I'm guessing 949racing reimburses Inertia Labs... I pay for the Labor for installing the springs and mounts, and the two knobs that were lost in transit. |
Update!
I'm sick of fiddling with the stupid aluminum racing beat sway bar support blocks every time I do anything to the car... Ordered AWR front sway bar mounts. |
