So I was reading that a dual master cylinder wouldn't be ideal on the street. Something about only good for maximum force breaking, and light and medium pedal suffers? Does anyone have experience, or knowledge about that?

I have 2001 Miata LS with ABS, I'm thinking of installing the brakes without the prop valve v8 roadsters is sending me, to see where the bias is out of the box. I think I need to install the master cylinder from them, otherwise my pedal would be super hard or soft, or something.

aidandj 08-08-2016 01:28 AM

You read too much. Just buy more stuff.

18psi 08-08-2016 09:18 AM

Read too much and buy too much.

Need to drive moar

thumpetto007 08-08-2016 01:15 PM

Agreed.

I wouldn't have much of a problem if EVERY PART I ORDER DIDN'T COME DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE.

I've ordered BRAND NEW oem headlights TWICE now, both sets came in a large box with ZERO PADDING and every tab and adjustment broken off. I just don't get it.

thumpetto007 08-08-2016 05:03 PM

the FAST coolshirt stuff came in... holy moly.

I got the "smaller" system, and it will be tough for an instructor to fit his legs in the passenger seat. I'll have the ice box, and the fire extinguisher in there...

ugh. Why did I get all this track stuff? I haven't even done a track day yet. What a hassle.

18psi 08-08-2016 05:04 PM

You should buy more track stuff, duhh

thumpetto007 08-08-2016 05:48 PM

Yeah, I'm definitely getting carried away. the only thing i actually NEEDED was the roll bar. and helmet.

I think I'll still install the firesense system, that would be sort of dumb not to.

I'll just wear normal clothes to the track day.

I cant get the proper seat installed because I'd need floor pan modification (hopefully getting that done at Blackbird in the winter) for the 6-point, so no harness or harness bar, no HANS, no heavy suit necessitating the coolshirt, nor FAST cooling system.

18psi 08-08-2016 05:57 PM

What about an intercooler for your shifter? :likecat:

Trunk? That's where mine is since my car has a passenger seat. Pretty easy to route the hoses on the sides or above the tunnel.

thumpetto007 08-08-2016 09:37 PM

^good plan, it should stay cooler there as well. thanks!

I put mine in with a nice marine switch since I didn't want to pay for the variable control. Was out at Thunderhill for an 8hr open track day and got in 4.5 hours behind the wheel with one ice bag refill.

Gutted interior makes everything easier :)

Savington 08-08-2016 10:48 PM

The secret to a long-lasting coolsuit is to use block ice. Find a tupperware container that's ~80% of the volume of the cooler and freeze a block of ice in that shape. It should last the entire day.

afm 08-08-2016 11:07 PM

Yeah I gotta try that out since I was also too cold for the first half hour post-refill. Had to pseudo-PWM with the switch. I'm sure block would help with that too.

thumpetto007 08-08-2016 11:22 PM

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I will mount it in the trunk as well, in the same location. Just take the spare out, and strap the icebox in.

UPDATE!!!
Trans is finally shipping out of North Carolina!!! ETA 8/15/16 !!!!! wooooo

Thanks to whitrzac, who told me about this ebay seller...

chrysler-w on eBay

The complete OEM appearance package hardware is on its way!!!!! (hopefully)

Also, here are some pictures of the coolsuit stuff that came in today. (not pictured are the bottles of amsoil racing brake fluid that also showed up)

Friday. Track day was run like a test day; 18 cars, no groups, track hot for 8 hours.

We use old bleach and anti-freeze bottles.. Has a convenient handle during changes during pit stops.

codrus 08-09-2016 02:25 PM

Or you can just go to Safeway and buy a block of ice. :)

Midtenn 08-09-2016 09:30 PM

Why buy a block of ice when I can fill up a jug multiple times for way less?

No city here :)

Actually this setup is much better than what i had previously. (hid kit in oem projectors angled upwards) These are bixenon, so I don't have to angle my low beams up anymore, I can adjust them properly, and then have the brightest highbeams on earth if I want. :)

I can still remember you talking about needing to contort yourself to be out of my headlights lol

I've watched the videos a few times already, I'm excited!

18psi 08-10-2016 12:24 PM

yep. I was Ray Charles after driving in front of you for a few min

We keep ours in a cooler with dry ice and they'll last all weekend at the track. Bonus, keeps your beers nice and frosty too for post track day celebrations.

icantlearn 08-11-2016 02:09 AM

how much is this kit again? 400?

thumpetto007 08-11-2016 02:34 AM

FAST Cool Suit System

715 minimum with the cheapest shirt. 200ish less without the variable pump timer

afm 08-11-2016 04:23 AM

Wow. I paid like $360 new for my full Cool Shirt setup.

icantlearn 08-11-2016 12:53 PM

sorry, I was too vague, I meant the hid kit.

thumpetto007 08-11-2016 01:14 PM

Raw parts from Morimoto and Osram is 990 for the quad projectors.

Just for a single projector retrofit (bixenon) with the Osram Nightbreakers (lightest bulbs on the market) 50w Morimoto ballasts, and 4TL-R lenses (or D2S, which are larger and a better fit for the oem projector location) is 445. You still need wiring harnesses, and to actually do the retrofit yourself, or pay someone to do it for you. I chose Lightwerkz, they charge between 400 and 900 per retrofit. That is for a single projector in each headlight.

thumpetto007 08-13-2016 08:33 PM

So I've been emailing with Guardian Designs, I have finally decided to try the "D" shaped steering wheel they offer, in black perforated napa leather. Matching shift boot (sized for the miataroadster lever I still have) and e-brake boot. (which I probably will never install)

We hope this will give me a bit more legroom. I still keep putting off the foamectomy, which I also need to do.

Savington 08-14-2016 01:17 AM

How do you sleep at night with the stock seats in your car? Probax seats were one of the first things I did to Acamas. I can't stand driving cars with the factory seats.

aidandj 08-14-2016 01:18 AM

Buys $1000 headlights...runs stock seats.

Its the thumpetto way.

Tempurpedic cloud mattress. :)

I actually like the stock seats. I have lower back problems, and the oem 2001 leather seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. I can drive 12 hours and not be uncomfortable.

Plus, I have to find a place that stocks a lot of different seats, so I can sit in them. I'm not blind buying tons of seats.

I also need floor modifications to fit a reclining seat. Blackbird hasn't got back to me about that.

You can. Contact Lightwerkz. They did everything for me. 300 dollars labor for each projector. They were very thorough with answering my questions, providing pictures, and explaining their process. Time will tell if I made a good choice.

If you do it yourself, parts alone are just under 1000 (four projectors and two shrouds) plus the correct sealant, and other materials.

thumpetto007 08-20-2016 12:54 AM

This is my entry for the Road and Track test drive and interview (by Sam Smith, R&T online)

Hello,

My name is Marcello and I own a Crystal Blue Metallic 2001 Miata LS. It has a factory hardtop, and stock engine, except for a european flat-top intake manifold. Full, stock exhaust.

I love to carve roads and go fast, reliably, and safely, but to do so without being obnoxiously loud. I am also very picky with road feel, and parts working smoothly.

I basically throw money and parts at the car until I get the best quality.

The following parts/mods will be installed/completed in time for Miatas at MRLS...

-Lightwerkz quad projector bixenon retrofit (D2S in low beam housing, TL-R in high beam housing, 55w ballasts, osram nightbreaker bulbs)

-V8 Roadster Pro BBK with tandem master cylinder and brace (11.75" curved vane two- piece AP Racing rotors and 4 pot radial mount Dynapro calipers front, custom Coleman two piece rotors rear)

-Track Dog Racing Intercooled c30-94 Rotrex kit

-Custom Megasquirt 3 ecu with real time flex fuel and barometric correction

-AEM AFR gauge mounted where the dummy oil pressure gauge was

-XIDA 800/500 Coilovers with Billet Coaxial top mounts and helper springs

-949 Racing sprung 4 puck clutch and forged steel flywheel

-JO Motorsports 6 speed transmission (cryo treated gears, Roush hardened shift forks, coated synchros)

-949 Racing O.S. Giken differential

-SADfab delrin control arm bushing kit with grease fittings

-AWR Heavy Duty Front Swaybar mounts

-949 Racing motor mounts, steering rack bushings, and differential mount bushings

-Hard Dog H2 Roll Bar Double Diagonal (works with glass soft top or hard top

-205 RE-71R tires

-15x8 6UL rims

- Aligned at 4.1" front pinch welds-3.5*/-2.8* and + .125" total rear toe.

-and the best mods you can have... tire pyrometer, notebook, tire pressure gauge, and air compressor in a bag in the trunk.

I am probably forgetting a few things, but that's most of the main current mods.

Future mods- I'm almost done. REALLY! Just a TSE built motor, and Carbon Miata full carbon oem hood, hard top, complete doors with door cards, and trunk. And a paint job, in another unpopular homosexual color. (to be determined)

Thank you for the chance,
Marcello

thumpetto007 08-20-2016 12:56 AM

They (Sam and Keith) pick 3 cars from each run group of Miatas at MRLS.

Enter your car!!!

thumpetto007 08-20-2016 11:16 PM

finally got around to the catch cans.... a little rough, but it should function properly. Vented one goes on the exhaust side (between intake inlet and valve cover) the other one goes on the intake side.(between valve cover and intake manifold, with a check valve between the catch can and intake manifold. the necessity of an additional check valve in this system, since the PCV is a check valve, is debatable. I'm putting an additional one, just because.)

Elbows, filter thingy and breather is from Jegs, brackets, springs (inserted in the bottom of the cans) and cheap hardware from HD racing. Husky air/oil separators courtesy of 18psi racing.

Special thanks to 18psi, Deezums, and aidendj.

thumpetto007 08-25-2016 09:45 PM

Prepped the headlights for a Ultra LightGard - clearmask.com installation. Optically clear, super fucking stinky.... but supposedly should protect my headlights when I'm going 500mph.

thumpetto007 08-25-2016 10:22 PM

I sort of lucked out. I bought them from an ebay seller who kept sending 600 dollar replacement miata headlights in a big empty box, so they were all arriving broken. Lightwerkz repaired the best two for me, and the ebay seller gave me a full refund. Free new headlights. If you don't count the retrofit.

Kept sending? Does this mean you have multiple sets?

thumpetto007 08-26-2016 02:03 AM

Lightwerks has multiple sets of broken miata lights. the clear front parts are fine, though, just the plastic tabs or adjustment screws are broken. Do you want to contact them?

Or should I? If you want me to, send me your shipping address, and I can have them ship what you want.

thumpetto007 08-27-2016 11:22 PM

Yikes! I wasn't going to add it up! Yeah... I have a problem.

Yet again, I have spent enough to buy an almost new Z06 in cash, outright.

The tools, however, are good to have. I won't be getting rid of them.

sonofthehill 08-28-2016 12:49 AM

Can't find the post, cause our threads are getting too long, we'll be as bad as Aidan next thing you know.
But I remember you making the most valid Zen statement, something like "I spend 10's of thousands on my Miata, because it makes me happy."
While I haven't even spent 10 G's because I am a broke, house poor boy. I basically spend every free penny/second I have on my Miata because it makes me happy. Your statement just rings with "Truth" around here.
I do want a Z06 though.

18psi 08-28-2016 01:00 AM

It's pointless to say "I could buy a z06 with the money I spent" when
1) you bought tools, which the z06 doesn't come with
2) you bought a trailer and other stuff, which z06 doesn't come with
3) you bought a bunch of stuff twice or thrice, cause you either bought wrong parts or they had problems, which the z06 wouldn't really apply to
4) you're learning how to wrench and make your car fast and track ready, learning in the same manner on a z06 would amount to close to $100k. making stupid mistakes with a 40-50k car would cost a LOT of money.
5) who cares.........do what makes you happy :) don't make tallies, they will make you sad

PS: consulting with me on some of these decisions woulda saved you a ton of money. cause I <3 u and would always give you solid advice
:magna: :makeout:

sonofthehill 08-28-2016 01:04 AM

Yes!

sonofthehill 08-28-2016 01:06 AM

I still want a Z06 :)
Well, maybe a Skyline.
