@Leafy do the advanced auto parts axles come with ABS rings?

Mine came with them, they're sold as abs fitment.

Heh. Well, in my case, taking it to a race car-oriented suspension shop and handing them my credit card seemed to do the trick. :)

My credit card limit isn't high enough for a race shop to do anything to my car.

It wasn't a race shop -- it was a shop that does lots of street cars and the occasional race car as well. I think it ran about $400.

aidandj 11-16-2015 07:39 PM

Maybe at the beginning of the month then.

EO2K 11-16-2015 08:55 PM

My intention is to put mine in the press and at least try to do it myself before paying someone to do it. I think I've finally got the guys in the shop here at work convinced that even though I'm an IT guy, I know how to turn a wrench. But I'm sure that's a ways off right now.

I'm catching a cold and its killing me. Ungh, I hate this time of year :hatecat:

It's going to snow here this week.

Yeah, I did that and it didn't go anywhere. I dunno how the shop got them out, maybe they just have a studlier press than I do.

So right now in the southern hemisphere where I am, it's 65 degrees and sunny and I'm on my third IPA at the taven on the lake front.

Sorry you have a cold.

EO2K 11-17-2015 12:00 AM

lol. Its not that the cold is so bad, its my jacked up sinuses that make me absolutely miserable any time this happens. It's the waiting that makes it so much fun.

18psi 11-17-2015 12:05 AM

Just got over a nasty cold too. Couldn't work for a week, that's how bad it was.

I feelz the feelz

codrus 11-17-2015 01:23 AM

Wednesday evening at work I had the slightly sore throat and it-feels-cold-but-thermometer-says-its-72 that suggested to me I was coming down with a cold, which would have royally sucked with Thunderhill on Friday. Fortunately it appears to have been an ultra mild cold that was gone almost instantly.

--Ian

EO2K 11-20-2015 12:26 PM

Yeah, got whomped. I've not had a "cold" this bad in a long time. I'm calling it a cold but it was much worse than that, I spent 3 days on the couch but I'm better now. Finally got back to work so, you know, posting on the turbo forum :)

EO2K 11-20-2015 12:27 PM

Ok, someone help me with this: my HVAC blower motor only works when its under 46°F in the early AM. Maybe blower motor resistor?

codrus 11-20-2015 01:56 PM

Your car is telling you to man up, you don't need heating so long as it's in the high 40s.

--Ian

EO2K 11-20-2015 02:34 PM

It's more that I'd like the defroster to function, regardless of the temperature. I find that visual input is critical to a successful and enjoyable driving experience. ;)

18psi 11-20-2015 02:39 PM

nonsense

aidandj 11-20-2015 02:46 PM

I've been thinking about wiring up some 12v computer fans to defrost my hardtop window. Shits impossible to see out of when its rainy.

I didn't know you guys had moisture in california. THought it was an oregon thing.

18psi 11-20-2015 02:48 PM

The 1 day a year it rains, it's so difficult

EO2K 11-20-2015 04:08 PM

I just need to drop more acid before driving, that'll expand my senses beyond the realm of simple auditory and visual stimuli.

Bro, I'm coastal. Got dem fogz for dayz. Its good for the artichokes and brussels sprouts, bad for the morning windshield visibility.

So, no ideas on the blower motor, eh?

No ideas here, sorry. Aside from the AC delete, the HVAC system is one of the few things on the Miata I haven't torn apart yet.

What about asparagus?

EO2K 11-23-2015 07:24 PM

We don't grow it but yes, there is some asparagus out this way.

Right now we are making a killing in celery. Last week we were one of the few suppliers with product so we essentially set the market price to whatever we want it to be. Last time I checked on the numbers we sold something like x7 or x8 more last week than our weekly average for the entire year, and we sell a lot of celery anyway.

This is 100% attributed to everyone's grandmas traditional family stuffing recipe :giggle:

18psi 11-23-2015 07:26 PM

moar celery = moar celery = moar mods amirite?

FTFY :giggle:

I don't work in sales so there is no direct correlation, but essentially yes. If its good for the company the owners make sure its good for the employees.

codrus 11-23-2015 07:41 PM

Can you make E85 out of celery?

--Ian

EO2K 11-23-2015 07:55 PM

Right now it would totally not be worth it. Let the government subsidized corn guys play in the fuel market, we wouldn't want anything to do with that right now.

Price is only half the battle, the other half is of course volume. Its all well and good that iceberg lettuce is $30+/case right now but if you don't have any to sell then that pricing does you no good. I just checked the numbers and prices are way up across the board, but I'd need to do some digging to see what our volumes look like.

We literally sold everything we had, 100% of our budgeted weekly volume (week for us is Mon-Sat) by Thursday of last week and the sales folks had nothing to do on Friday but drink. That's fucking epic for a produce company. Sad as it may be, what I'm taking away from this at the moment is that Thanksgiving is the only time of the year the majority of the US buys fresh veg. I'll have to see if they'll let me aggregate and post some numbers next week.

18psi 11-23-2015 08:09 PM

C85?

EO2K 11-23-2015 08:12 PM

I propose a kale based fuel, we can call it K85 :giggle:

The sudden increase in popularity caused massive overproduction leading to insane surplus. Now, predictably, the ass has fallen out of the kale market and you almost can't give the stuff away. Right now if you have the misfortune of having it in the ground the overhead for harvest and packing has exceeded the market price. Lots of small growers that jumped in to try to catch the wave are going to lose their ass on that particular gamble.

aidandj 11-23-2015 08:20 PM

K85 FTW. Then people can stop putting it on my fucking food.

EO2K 11-23-2015 08:56 PM

:bowrofl:

The irony is that if the price stays so low and the volume is still available, you'll start to see it turn up in super processed foods like tortilla chips and hot pockets. That way people who eat such things as a large percentage of their diet can feel like they are making a 'healthy choice' when they eat the whole box in one sitting.

Anyone remember spinach chips from 4-5 years ago?

18psi 11-23-2015 08:59 PM

 it all makes sense now

aidandj 11-23-2015 10:17 PM

You could find out kale cures cancer, and I would just be like, I'll take the chemo please

I love Jim Gaffigan

EO2K 11-23-2015 11:36 PM

Oh yeah, I'd love to see one of his live shows one of these days.

The most ridiculous live stand up I think I've ever seen was Ron White. Holy shit, the "Blue Collar Comedy" show with the other guys is incredibly tame compared to his solo live show.

aidandj 11-23-2015 11:39 PM

I saw Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable guy on friday. They actually discussed that. Someone asked if they would ever do Blue Collar comedy again.

EO2K 11-24-2015 12:40 PM

Oh yeah, you guys will love this...

I found out yesterday morning from my neighbor that "some kids" tried to steal the Miata while I had it parked on the street. He "chased them off with a flashlight" and called 911. Then the Police showed up and rolled the neighborhood and found nothing. On Friday night. :vash: That's right, he waited all weekend to tell me about it.

The car is dirty and there were no fingerprints on the glass, damaged paint, nothing on the rubber window moldings and no smudges in all the dust and dirt on the body or around the door handles. I was about to call bullshit until I called the local PD and they confirmed that yes, they had a unit respond to a 911 call on Friday night on my street but would not give any details beyond that.

Now this is the same old man neighbor who freaks out if I park a car in front of his house overnight (dude, public street, lick my nuts) and who's wife is literally crazy. They are both in their 70's and I'm pretty sure she has some sort of dementia or alzheimer's and he covers for her pretty heavily. In the 4 years I've lived at this address they've had police/fire/EMS respond to their house 4 times for "public assist" calls and once for a heart attack.

Anyway, he's a dick and I'm not sure if I believe him or not. Car is usually parked in my driveway behind the house and off the street, but now I'm uber fucking paranoid :noes:

18psi 11-24-2015 12:43 PM

I would be too. Better be safe than sorry dude, that car is way too easy to steal, or even steal parts off.
And miata theft is going up with all the stancebro rejects getting into them these days.
When I was at my house it was in garage/back yard locked up the whole time.
Getting into my yard is not hard. Getting out, alive, is quite the challenge.
Not taking chances.

aidandj 11-24-2015 12:52 PM

No garage?

EO2K 11-24-2015 12:52 PM

I'm pretty sure there was no way they could have started it, but yes, ripping off parts would not be impossible.

I'm going to start seriously looking into a more low profile gauge solution. It's not like my cabin is full of BECAUSERACECAR stuff, (I removed the progressive LED shift indicator right after MRLS) but I dislike my current gauges and this gives me a good excuse to make some changes.

shuiend 11-24-2015 12:53 PM

At a secret fuel pump switch. Will suck to have to use, but should prevent the car from being stolen unless they have a flat bed.

Going to do this too when I rewire my fuel pump.

There are certain electrical modifications to the car that are not documented in this thread. That's all I'm saying about that.

Not a good idea. The thieving scum do know about this, a lot. Once they hear no fuel pump priming, they will instantly look for the switch, and they will find it.

A better approach would be to install a switch for the crank or cam sensor instead.

codrus 11-25-2015 12:28 PM

Or take the MS3 out and lock it in the house. :) A bit more of a PITA, though.

There are probably a dozen different things that you can easily put on a killswitch that will prevent the car from starting. The hard part is hiding the switch in such a place that its not a complete pain in the ass to get to, but not obvious to a thief.

What about an RFID based kill switch with it hidden under the console. Use one of the keychain style transponders. Should be close enough?

EDIT: https://vimeo.com/25676340 I'm sure the electronics guys on this site could come with a more elegant solution.

x_25 11-25-2015 01:48 PM

Magnetic reed switch. Can be anywhere behind the plastic trim and then you just stick a magent to it to turn it on?

18psi 11-25-2015 02:05 PM

So does a simple car alarm. Thieves hate attention. The low hanging fruit thing, etc.

I've been driving the Miata to work on Fridays for the funsies, regardless of weather. This morning, ambient temp was 34ºF. IAT @ full boosts? 35ºF

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1448642799

So intercooler appears to be working. Too bad the tires don't :giggle:

aidandj 11-27-2015 12:06 PM

Excited to copy your intercooler setup.

EO2K 11-27-2015 12:13 PM

If my RS3s weren't dead before, after all the frost that was on the car this morning they are probably dead now. I think they were 2011 or 2010 vintage? I'm sure they'll be 'fine' for the rest of teh winter, I just need to watch it.

I'm honestly impressed that the car started at 34ºF. It took a little coaxing with the throttle but it eventually caught on the 3rd try. I should note that its still 2/3 full of 100 octane from Miatas@MRLS :giggle:

I need to find more time to drive. Oi

Missed out on the $186 all seasons from discount tire.. They are actually doing really well. Raced a lexus something or another (the older v8 one) last night and didn't get any wheel spin.
