Minimum number of cats required for admittance?

--Ian

18psi 10-07-2016 02:40 PM

I think I got that covered ;)

sonofthehill 10-07-2016 08:38 PM

It was great to meet and hang out with all you guys.

EO2K 11-23-2016 12:39 PM

Yesterday I drove the Miata to work!

50°F ambient and probably 46°F surface temps with standing water and NT-01s = better than coffee. God I love the EFR but its virtually impossible to stay out of boost anyway, and the low ambient temps just make it that much more fun. :giggle:

18psi 11-23-2016 12:44 PM

only one solution: awd swap

EO2K 11-23-2016 12:47 PM

That would be why I own a Subaru. I just make poor decisions from time to time, I thought this thread was evidence enough of that ;)

EO2K 12-07-2016 12:31 PM

300hp does not look nearly as impressive when its in a pile in your garage.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...41764d7a35.jpg

ridethecliche 12-07-2016 01:00 PM

Sure is purdy though!

turbofan 12-07-2016 01:12 PM

What are you doing?

18psi 12-07-2016 01:15 PM

/\ same question as above.

EO2K 12-07-2016 01:22 PM

Parting out.

18psi 12-07-2016 01:28 PM

EO2K 12-07-2016 01:29 PM

^^ Learned from the master

18psi 12-07-2016 01:34 PM

I can't blame you, these new mustangs are the beez kneez. Let me know when you're ready to tune it

codrus 12-07-2016 01:55 PM

Nah, he's not parting out. He just wanted to make sure he fully appreciated 300hp, and the best way to do that is to convert it back to stock and drive it around for at week, pathetic and slow, then put the power back in. :)

--Ian

turbofan 12-07-2016 01:58 PM

:bsflag:

EO2K 12-07-2016 02:26 PM

Why not? Its easier than replacing valve stem seals.

Efini~FC3S 12-07-2016 03:10 PM

Smog? Inspections? Some other sort of Kali shenanigans?

turbofan 12-07-2016 03:12 PM

Ah, smog. that's what he's doing.

18psi 12-07-2016 03:56 PM

The car was dirty. Needed a wash

time to part out

It's a slippery slope. It's like when someone needs to fill the gas tank and accidentally ends up with a Kswap

Almost been there, ok maybe only 250.
Looks very impressive to me and I know the feeling.

codrus 12-07-2016 07:01 PM

It looks a bit more impressive when you add the exhaust/etc plumbing. :)

--Ian

EO2K 12-07-2016 07:06 PM

Exhaust is leaning up against the back wall on the other side of the garage, but I'll add the intercooler to the pile tonight.

Then I can start taking bids :burncash:

Midtenn 12-08-2016 01:28 PM

Can I have back the parts I sold you years ago? I don't want anyone else making money on them.

18psi 12-08-2016 01:38 PM

$3.50

EO2K 12-08-2016 01:48 PM

Trust me when I say I've never made a profit on anything I've bought and resold. :hahano:

turbofan 12-08-2016 05:01 PM

So, are you actually parting this stuff out?

EO2K 12-08-2016 05:13 PM

Not if it keeps fucking raining. The 52°F rain combined with working outdoors in the driveway SUUUUUUUUCKS.

Looking for something specific? Shoot me a text, I know you've got my number ;)

turbofan 12-08-2016 10:53 PM

I will PM you, there might be a thing or two.

But in reality I am just trying to figure out WTF is going on. Prepping for failfab manifold? :giggle:

sonofthehill 12-09-2016 12:00 AM

Reasons OK! Just reasons. ;)

Yeap, everyone talks about injectors but I've never seen anyone talk about filtration. From the linked article:

So if you are using the WIX 20µ filter you are 'probably fine' but I hate being 'probably' anything. The guys at Injector Dynamics obviously know WTF they are talking about when it comes to injectors so I'm happy to take their recommendations for filtration as well. The Fuelab 818 filter I linked is $130 and 6µ replacement elements are $32. I'm happy to spend the $45 annually to replace the WIX and the 6µ element and never worry about my injectors. I worry too much already. You've seen my hairline, you know these things.

It's not the supplied fuel I'd be worried about, but the transfer trucks, pipelines, underground tanks and dispensing nozzles I'd be worried about. Lots of ways for junk to get into the system before it hits my fuel tank.

Apples to oranges but I know our Cummins diesel systems on the equipment at work run a 7-25µ primary and a 2-5µ secondary filter so there is obviously legitimate concerns from the manufacturers about fuel quality and/or contamination. I'm sure filtration is more of an issue when you are running 2000psi at the injector, but you get the idea.

I'm glad to see I can spread my paranoia :giggle:

Jeff knows what I'm talking about. Gordon is actually doing it right now. I mean, in the perfectest world, are ID1300's awesome? yes. Is that super fancy filter awesome? yes. Is a EFR awesome? yes. What about an ARtech mani? Yep. What about a FAB9 sidewinder? Yup.

And then tomorrow a sick newer cooler thing comes out, and all of a sudden we should probably just use that.

I dunno. It's a disease. It's a sickening slipery slope. Sometimes the lines are blurred. But SOMEWHERE you need to learn to draw the line on where you stop.

I just want to see this awesome assortment of parts together and running. Same for me wanting to see El Heffe's glorious beast on the road and being enjoyed.

I'm running the most mediocre turbo setup known to man right now: stock MSM. I'm running ID725's and DW200 on an otherwise stock mazda system (though I did replace the oem fuel filter with another new one). On paper it's so mediocre. And yet, I love it so so so so very much that I don't even give a crap about cooler parts. I'm just happy.

Stop overthinking and be happy?

Whay are you up to with the stock intake? Is it smog time or something?

sonofthehill 12-18-2016 12:10 PM

Something.
Let me know if you need some input or pics of vacuum/wire routing etc...
I have fiddled with this sort of thing recently.
;)

hi_im_sean 12-18-2016 02:57 PM

If you plumb the intercooler directly into the stock intake, it reduces turbo lag tremendously.

Also, just remove all the vacuum lines and cap them off, it also reduces lag, as well as frustration.

I *think* I got it. I've driven it on 4 trips totaling about 50miles and no CEL. Surprisingly enough the FSM was not incredibly helpful in the case of the emissions vacuum lines under the hood, but it had enough clues spread out over enough pages that I was able to funger it out. My fanatical attention to saving all the factory vacuum lines, sensors, mounts and hose clamps has once again paid off in spades.

Absolutely. I was STUNNED at the reduction in lag. So much so that it think it went into negative numbers and it started spooling while it was sitting in my garage! Super glad I left the air filter on, god only knows what would have happened to my wife had she been standing too close!

This is a good point. I'm sure prospective buyers don't know what that little engine shaped light in the cluster means, so I should be safe :giggle:

EO2K 12-18-2016 05:46 PM

My only annoyance with the car at this point is that the HVAC blower fan still refuses to chooch, but to be completely honest I've tried nothing and I'm completely out of ideas.

I need to do some commuting in the car to and from work over the next week or so, and the defroster is going to be pretty important on the rediculously cold mornings. I should probably do some legit troubleshooting today but I've got another social commitment this evening that is going to eat up the rest of my day. I also need to change the oil to something a little more catalytic converter friendly so I've got some 10w-30 Castrol GTX dino juice posted up in the garage also waiting for me to find time to change the oil. Sigh.

If I was going to follow Andrew's naming convention of using characters from Greek mythology I'd have to make this thing "Sisyphus"

Mobius 12-18-2016 08:44 PM

Here freezing is anything below 55F.
Everywhere else cold is below 32 and freezing doesn't even begin until there have been like 5 days with a high in the teens.

EO2K 12-19-2016 01:12 PM

Aw shit. I just realized I may not actually have antifreeze in the Miata.

sonofthehill 12-19-2016 01:21 PM

You just need a little, residual from the heater core is probably enough. Is it still below 32? I am up to 40 already and my coolant temp never seems to dip below about 45, even with a low of 28.
It was just 28 for a short while.

codrus 12-19-2016 01:47 PM

Does your Miata live outside, or in a garage?

--Ian

EO2K 12-19-2016 02:29 PM

Outside. What am I, the pope?

Read thread title as syphilis at least three times. Move along.

sonofthehill 12-19-2016 02:40 PM

Mine is outside too, I try to keep the garage empty since it is about as big as codrus' trailer.
