I think I've got about 5' of 5/8" fuel line somewhere in the garage. I'll probably just throw that on the return at the regulator and jump the pins in the diagnostic box and let the pump do the hard work for me. What could possibly go wrong?
The only remaining question is where to put the old fuel. I'm sure it'll mix well with the CA87 in the wifes Escape :giggle: |
Put it in the pickup
|
Rear tank on the pickup is full, front tank I've been trying to empty so I can drop it and fix the sender so while the truck burns obscene amounts of fuel, its not an option right now.
That means wife's Escape or the WRX. |
Oo, or my brothers Toyota pickup! I'm sure he's down for free gas. :giggle:
|
don't pick WRX.
and really, ignore these guys talking about upgrades. I just want you to fix the silly stem seals you don't keep pooping up your pretty block and possibly ingesting a bunch of oil into the cylinders. |
Yes. Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.
Move here and spend all of your money on race car things and beer. |
Hey now, all I mentioned were seats and harnesses. Which is pretty reasonable for a track car with a shit ton of power.
|
bro, you're just not on his level.
stock seats, seat belts, 1 hand on the wheel and sippin a caramel machiatto from the other #trackday (bunny slippers too) |
G is waiting until I get around to replacing my out-of-spec seats. :)

Nope. Only thing I'll be hot lappin is Gesso's ExoFish, and likely off track on some back roads or something.
someone give that man an mbc so we can run more boost than an average male fart :giggle: |
I've got a couple spare EBC solenoids kicking around.
|
I dunno how well ms2 handles ebc. It should work fine, but all the EBC's I've tuned were with ms3+
But you should bring ALLTHEBOOST parts anyway :) |
Open loop takes like 2 minutes to setup. I'll throw it in my box.
|
What do you do as a profession for realzies?
The promise land is always hiring. It's not quite as cheap as the mid west, but we have mountains and awesome stuff. I think I saw somewhere you were going to defcon? Masters degree? PM me if you'd like. |

I do seriously like that Pole Position. I would have bought one of the revised Pole Position NGs already if I could find somewhere semi local that has them in stock so I can see if I fit in them. What I REALLY want are Andy's Memoryfab S58 seats (or was it S68?) but those things have been out of production for probably a decade now. :( |
Making major changes to your cars the night before track day is a tradition that you and Geoff MUST uphold.
Don't break traditions myeaw |

Nebraska sucks. It is Unholy hell.
Indiana is a much nicer state. |
I was just in the panhandle 2 weeks ago. I kinda liked it.
I can see the rest of nebraska sucking though. |
Sorry Monk! I intended to type Indiana but my fingers decided Nebraska for some reason, my heartfelt apologies.

@gesso, order this: https://www.amazon.com/Hallman-PRO-R...dp/B00IFWMQLG/ It's Prime so it'll be at your place on like Wednesday, and you can order the fancy in cabin cable like Andy at some point later.

I've been to all 50 states, and Nebraska ranks #50 for me. There are a few states I like more than Indiana, but not many compete with the cost of living and near total absence of government intrusion in everyday living. Plus, with the money you save on living expenses, you can afford legitimate vacations. |
why would you wire the wg open? clutch slippin or something?

I have a history of breaking the car at this event... I am mostly kidding, but I may wire it open when Gabby's driving(if she wants).

I love the rambling that happens in this thread. Somehow more entertaining than the rambling that happens elsewhere.
I might have an MBC somewhere in my garage. Pretty sure I do. If I remember, I'll look tonight. I hear you on the housing thing, though things aren't as ridiculous here as they are there. |
Gesso, you have a history of breaking this car at this track :noes:
Dunno if I want to drive up to the BA to do just stem seals. I sat here and realized I was pretty sure the seals are in your garage and the tools are in mine  |
[QUOTE=gesso;1363563
I have a history of breaking the car at this event... [/QUOTE] My history at Miatas@MRLS is: 2009: lost a coolant hose on-track Saturday. Meatball flag, fill it back up, steaming out the tailpipe. Goes home on a tow truck with suspected HG failure. Ultimately leads to building the motor the first time. 2010: new built motor runs well on Saturday, but I was rained out on Sunday. 2011: no event held 2012: Built motor grenades 3rd gear on the 5-speed, car goes home on the trailer. 2013: Car runs OK, but not run all that hard due to rain. 2014: Throttle body screw lets loose, trashes motor & turbo. 2015: Car runs well. So out of 6 events I've had major failures at half of them, limited running in 2 of them due to rain, and only one has really been flawless. Hoping to make it 2 flawless ones next weekend! I just hope the truck makes it... --Ian |
Ummm, Ian. I hope you noticed the pattern...

The optimistic view is that the pattern is "the car would have broken every year except for the two that it rained and I didn't get to drive it hard enough", and that last year marked a new beginning. :) --Ian |

Buddy of mine that I often visit lives in Santa Cruz. Same story. Insane-o
Luckily he rents from his father in law, so gets the most insane deal in the universe (14 acre property literally next door to mystery spot, for what you'd pay for a 1 bedroom ghetto apartment) The people that live here and commute to bay, are the people that own mansions here. |
So, how many chapters do I need to go back before I see pictures of this thing? Lol
|
People post car pictures in build threads? :giggle:

And here is what it looks like underhood when its "clean"
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2327ab6ca4.jpg Crap, I've got more underhood pictures of Andrew's Silver NB than I do of my own car  |
Take it from a native SF boy who moved away.
Everywhere else sucks. That is why we tolerate the shit here. |
So have you got a heat shield for the master cylinder yet?
--Ian |
I have been in your shoes and did what you are doing, it costs you nothing to park the car and cut unecesary expences until you are back on your feet.
Come to Indiana, we have e85 everywhere and you will have a few tracks nearby to play in, you will also have some disposable income to save for retirenment after plying with the car LOL |
+3 for Indiana. Hope you like looking at corn though.
|
Car looks great. Eventually I will go back in your thread to catch up on your build. I have been away for too long.

In IT you can make 100k + in Indiana (depending on your certiffications) , not sure what your wife does but another 30k or more and you will be very confortable, For Wayne, Bloominghton and the Indianapolis area has many good IT jobs, you can live in a nice 3000 ft 3 car garage 250k - 300k home with a full basement (tornado shelter, you do know when they are near by) in a nice neigborhood for a $1300 -$1500 mortgage payment be 10 mi from work and yes take your vacation and go visit your family in January when is cold and have them visit you here in the sumer.
I know it is hard to pick up and go, leave everithing you know behind, and big changes like that should be well researched, planned and executed when you find the right job etc. Best of luck to you, you will do fine regardless of where you go if you stay disciplined about your expences etc. |
You can live and work anywhere. I've lived all over and prefer to have a house paid off and substantially funding my retirement. Some places are better than others, but you have to be happy. Move around some and see some new things. You may be surprised what you might happy with. Move around while you are young and get a feel for different things. That's a luxury of youth.
|
This is all good advice and I have an old man's perspective.
The only thing is the "visit your family in January" thing. I lived in New England, where it froze solid for a few months a year. Us CA folk don't do so well below 20*F. 20*Fffffff! |
If you can just hold out until the next big quake.
Uh oh , too much to drink tonight, better quit before I piss too many people off. |
Far northern California is basically Oregon...
Come to the light side. Jk don't move up here. We have too many of your kind already. |
The State of Jefferson is where it's at!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff..._Pacific_state) I really enjoyed Mt. Shasta the couple times I visited, but no way could I live in Kalifornia, even the "Jefferson" portion... |
Texas, do eet. (At least visit)
Lot's IT work in Austin, Cota track around the corner as well as harris hill raceway. Coast is... 4 hours away but well worth the scenic drive. My coworker next to me is from California and vows never to return, says it was completely toxic and is now living in a nice 2 story home with a theater room, pool table etc etc. Getting a lot more for his money. |
One word of advice: Don't wait.
Move when you're young, so that if it sucks, you can move again. Doing it when you're in your mid 50's is a hell of a lot tougher, so it's easier just to stay put. Wish I'd gotten out of NYS 2 decades ago. |

I hate the bay area with a passion.
|
I understand, SF just isn't what is was when I was a young man. Every time I cross the bridge to visit my mom, I end up cursing at all the idiot drivers, at the very least.
Seriously worst drivers in the nation. I just can't deal with the cold, but North West cold is more tolerable. |
My buddy Jamie bought a house (some Miatas at the Lake attendees went there) 3300sq ft on 23 wooded acres with a huge detached shop that holds 10 cars, has hydraulic floor lift, paint booth, and additional covered carports for $58k. He put on a roof, installed a new A/C unit, some wiring, new flooring, cabinets, etc. for about $25k and then had the timber in the back 10 acres harvested for a gain of $18k. Since his house is paid off, he got an easy supervisory job with the county with lots of time off, good benefits, and a pension. Now he builds and sells hot rods for fun.
I guess my point is, don't be a slave to a mortgage unless that's what makes you happy. My house down here in Florida was under $100k 3/2/1car +detached 1 car garage/workshop stucco/block. It's a newer house in an older neighborhood that has a mix of crummy and nice, but it is all we need. House is paid for and we are funding our retirement. Ryan G bought a large 2 story house with a detached garage with an apartment above it. He's living in the apartment, keeping the garage for himself, and renting out the house for more than the cost of the mortgage payment and his utilities. He's living for free and heavily funding his retirement. It's all about what you want to do with your life. You only get one of them. Make yourself happy. IT jobs are everywhere. See the world. |
Nobody has brought up the school thing yet. Idk if G plans on kids, but me and my fiance do. And in reality school quality is the only thing holding us back from moving out to the boonies. My job is located somewhere that could easily be a 30 minute commute to a cheap house with lots of property, but it has a shitty school system.
Its a really hard balance to find, and something not everyone thinks about. |
It's not all bad. But the parts that are bad, are really bad.
There's a reason the area is insanely overpopulated and getting more so each year. |

We don't have the racism and homophobia on the west coast that seems to be present to one degree or another in the rest of the country, but god damn we sure as fuck have some xenophobia going on.
