disable ego correction in ms and it wont freak out.
stock ecu won't care if you disconnect the rear o2, it will just throw a cel
if you mean disconnected sensor in the exhaust, it's not a good diea, but won't explode your sensor in .00003 seconds like some will make it sound

Quick question: can I install a wideband sensor (Bosch) and run the car without hooking it up for a day or two? I don't have a plug for the bung, and I want to drive the car. But I also don't want to screw up the sensor.

<p>From what I understand all that powering it does is turn on the heater. It will heat up anyways with exhaust flowing by. according to the manuals I'm wrong.</p>

To OP, a local MIDAS where I live has those plugs in stock. Most any exhaust shop will have them. You may be able to get one locally.

You'll kill a wideband sensor if you run the engine with it unpowered. That's stated in the manuals for the innovate and AEM units at any rate.
A NB sensor won't care. Early NB sensors didn't even have built in heaters, they relied on EGTs to get to temp, but the temp a NB sensor is, isn't critical to its operation like it is with a WB.

I paid $359 for mine (homier Speedway, same as all the other brands) about 10 years ago. It's been a productive hobby ever since. They go for around $500 nowadays, if you find them on sale. But be forewarned, they are a work in progress. You have to make or buy parts for them (i.e. tailstock lock) to make them useful.
I made my shift **** (out of a trailer hitch ball, no less), and have made several for other people. That's one reason I offered to fix G's, as I already have the arbor.

Benchtop, Chinese made. 7x12 size. Small stuff.
Harbor Freight sells them. They cost about $600 when not on sale, but you can find coupons. They are typical Chinese quality. More of a kit than a working lathe.

I have two lathes. One for metal/plastic, and one for woodworking (mostly pens). I made a cigar holder last night because I was sick of spitting out little bits of tobacco. Took me about 40 minutes, all told, because I am fussy.

I can just envision a lot of small parts and brackets that are a bitch to make/need a welder that would be fabulous to have a lathe for. Also 3D printers.
Plus I just think them & CNC machines are so damn cool(my YouTube watched history is full of lathe/CNC clips)
I always thought they went for thousands though, hence never approaching the possibility of owning one unless I got lucky on a used machine.
Getting a hitch and a tow dolly for my TDI are priority #1 at the moment though. It was 116° yesterday. ****. That. I'm not man enough to drive in that heat in the Miata(no AC). Especially with the hood vents pushing oven hot air into the cabin.
