Ha! Pin in the wrong hole, works every time.

Nice Ryan! I was really hoping this wasn't gonna be another example of neverending VVT issues. Now the fun part begins.

So now that the car runs I spent the day taking care of the details. I got 205 rivals mounted on my 15x8 6ULs because the 225s were not available and my other tires were corded. I was curious how much of a difference there would actually be in the tread width from the 225s and the 205s so I took some measurements for science!

It looks as though they are about the same height when stacked but there is just under half and inch of difference in the actual treadwidth per tire. Not bad. More pics of the new tires mounted.

I also rerouted my oil feed line from going around the back of the engine to going around the front. It was originally contacting the manifold and sitting right underneath it elsewhere which would have resulted in it being completely cooked. Here is the new routing.

I also made a surprise purchase....15x9 Konig Dial In's. Corifto got these from Good-win during the free shipping special but decided he wanted to go with 15x8s instead since his car will be mainly a street car. These wheels will become my track wheels which will be paired with some 225 conti takeoffs courtesy of Sixshooter. Very excite!

All I need to really do to make the car completely driveable is to cut and bend a small part of the shelf for some additional clearance in case the engine rocks and get the mid-pipe on my exhaust converted to v-band so I can mate it to my downpipe. SO CLOSE! Should just need next weekend to wrap it all up. Then there are lots of other parts I already have that will need to be installed afterward including a new soft top, Singular motorsports hood louvers, nexus 7 infotainment setup, rx7 oil cooler, and ducting.

Cant wait to see it in person, and get a proper ride in that beast.

205 Rivals are really beefy tires and look right on an 8" wheel.

Wow, dem Rivals. I may need to rethink my tire choices.

I'm a little late to the game here but I'm SUPER GLAD this started and ran! I'm also wondering if this wasn't the same problem Vlad was having.

So I have another problem...........

But first, I received something neat in the mail.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425838924

These will be nice once I get the GM coils in place. Now to the bad news.

I took the turbo off the notch part of the shelf because the clearance was tighter than I would have liked.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/...pse9oz58a3.jpg

The notching was easy. However, upon reassembly I noticed something I had not before. The compressor housing is contacting the A/C compressor which is obviously not good. I went back to the pictures that Abe sent which clearly show ample room between the compressor housing and A/C compressor with essentially the same clocking. As discussed previously in this thread, the MSM compressor is different than the normal NB compressor. It is significantly smaller which would make you think that clearance would not be an issue. Upon further inspection of the pictures of both compressors side by side I am convinced that either the bracket used for the MSM compressor sits it higher up or the compressor itself is longer. Does anyone by chance know if the ac compressor brackets are different on the MSM or have a normal NB bracket I could borrow to check?

Ryan_G 03-08-2015 02:35 PM

Upon further research here are the following part numbers listed by Mazda for AC brackets.

BPE815810A – 99-00 Bracket
BP6F15810A – 01+ Bracket
NC726147Y – MSM bracket

I think my theory is correct about the bracket location. What I am hoping is that the bolt spacing for all of the compressors in the same so I just need a new bracket. However, with my luck I seriously doubt I will get away with anything less than completely replacing the compressor, lines, and bracket together.

Ryan_G 03-08-2015 03:11 PM

So after looking at a ton of pictures I can see exactly why it is making contact. The MSM compressor sits farther back than the normal NB compressor due to the way the bracket sits. Unfortunately, switching out just the brackets will not work because then the pulley would be out of alignment. So I am going to need to source a complete NB A/C Compressor, bracket, and lines.

Ryan_G 03-08-2015 07:45 PM

Removed AC condensor and lines for the time being. I just want a running car. Should be going to the exhaust shop this week so I can start driving it on the road.

miata2fast 03-09-2015 09:15 AM

I would be willing to bet that we can come up with a solution to get it working. Up to the challenge?

Next Saturday I will be doing a work session at the shop. You are welcome to bring it by.

Got your message late last night. I can bring it by but I would be kind of amazed if you could fix it. You can't move it forward due to the pulley alignment so the only option is to drop it straight down somehow and I'm not sure if there is room. I am more than willing to give it a go though. I am bringing the car to the exhaust shop this week so you should be abke to see it running too!

Mobius 03-09-2015 06:35 PM

Ryan I have all my AC stuff in a box. I'll try to get pictures today of everything.

Awesome! I really appreciate it.

ihiryu 03-10-2015 07:25 PM

Hey Ryan, is there anyway I could get your part numbers on the stuff you ordered for the MSM billies?

Congrats on the new motor, anxiously awaiting updates!

Congrats on the new motor, anxiously awaiting updates!

I'll be home shortly to pm you that info.

On another note, I just drove it around the block and did a final inspection to make sure everything looked good for tomorrow. Good god is this car spartan as fuck. It is so loud with an open dp. No power steering without the proper alignment is pretty rough. It also vibrates like a motherfucker. Definitely have to readjust from the sequoia.

Mobius 03-10-2015 11:31 PM

Ryan I haven't forgotten but been slammed. Might be Thursday, sorry.

sixshooter 03-11-2015 09:33 AM

I told you you might want one of those fancy motor mounts on the side that stretches apart and one of the Mazdacomp ones on the compressing side. I've got Mazdacomp on both sides and will split the set with you if you decide you want to try it. Mine won't have the same beans that yours does so it will be less important on my end to have a super strong one on the side that typically rips apart.

Ryan_G 03-11-2015 09:54 AM

I will withhold judgement on the motor mounts until I drive it with a full exhaust. The vibration didn't seem bad at all this morning. I think the fact that it sounds like I open the gates of hell when I give it 10% throttle is making me think everything is shittier than reality. I felt like such a jackass driving it to the exhaust shop this morning. I think everyone stared me down.
