Ahhhh, that makes MUCH more sense

That sentence was a bit unclear. I did indeed mean wiring in the dark with my phone as a light. I really need a garage. :vash: Drove the car to work this morning to continue tuning and my idle was hovering around 1.5k rpms. Thought it might be a vacuum leak but then I noticed my coolant sensor was all screwy and bouncing around but mainly sitting at 0. It was never leaving warmup mode.
I knew I would live to regret those autozone crimp connectors. I'll have to redo those connections with my nice solder crimp connectors now. Probably won't have time until Friday :( |
Ryan, where did you get those solder connectors? Local?
|
Amazon.com: Pico 2252GT 22-16 AWG Electrical Wiring Solder Seal Heat Shrink Butt Connectors 25 Per Package: Automotive
They work very well and they are fairly cheap. There were some good ones linked in the gauges thread by emilio as well and I can't remember why I didn't order from there. I think to get a decent price you had to order a lot more than I wanted. I slip the connector onto one of the wires and then twist the exposed wire together to form a loose connection before sliding the connector back onto the exposed wire and crimping. Then just apply heat to melt the solder and heat shrink. Made wiring go from a nightmare to easy mode. |
Small update with no pictures. I fixed the coolant sensor bullshit and now the car runs beautifully. I am going to be driving the car to work this week and auto tuning it while finishing the break-in. Then I will try to get a baseline virtual dyno run at wastegate. I have some new seats on the way and a few other new parts going on so there will be more updates to come.
|
Have you boosted on this turbo yet? If so, how's the spooling performance? I'm stuck between this and the 6758..
|
I have been boosting it to 15ish psi every now and then but I am still not completely done with the break in yet. I need to take a log for a virtual dyno baseline here so we can see how its spooling
|

So.... like.... videos? Updates? I need to see this thing driving, boosting, etc. You know, all the things my car can't do yet.

|
I really need to update this. I got a brand new soft top on it and then kind of lost motivation to keep working on the car and decided to enjoy some other areas of life. The car is running and it is very fast. I was going to get some virtual dyno runs in before I lost motivation but my MS2 decided it wanted to start losing sync for some reason and I couldn't get a clean pull in. I think I will likely do some little stuff here in the next few weeks and get some virtual dyno runs up. There is also an oil leak problem from the turbo that makes me think the seals are leaking and I will likely have to get that looked at.

Now I can focus on the car again! |
Is that the new found interest in working on your car that you mentioned in your text? Losing the girl?

Took the car out for a drive today to maybe getting a virtual dyno log but my MS was having some sort of syncing issue and tunerstudio would drop the connection after a short time. I decided to just kind of cruise around. Driving across a bridge and experienced a single very short stumble but nothing else really out of the ordinary until I came to a stop. The engine was wobbling for lack of a better word and just kind of sounded like shit. I ended up limping it home while all of the worst case scenarios flew through my head. Did I spin a bearing, was this rod knock, did I just break my new engine while cruising somehow? I got home and check the oil level which was slightly over the full mark all 3 times I checked it.
I texted sixshooter while watching rod knock and spun bearing videos and quickly came to the conclusion these were more than likely not my issue. I think I simply lost a cylinder and need to check my plugs but I have some other shit going on today and do not have the time to verify. In other news, in a search for quality available seat brackets for the infinitfab seats I acquired I came across these: nmwisimaJDMbits: Amoni Racing Mx5 Bucket Seat Mounts! https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433099781 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433099781 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433099781 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1433099781 Any thoughts? They are available now and seem to offer some amount of adjustability while remaining rather low. RyokuRob also makes mounts but they are substantially more expensive, very hard to actually get a hold of in a short amount of time, are not designed for the NB resulting in a less than perfect fit, and appear to offer less adjustability. I contemplated fabricating my own mounts but I have shitty fabrication skills and I would likely just never get the seats in if I waited until I made my own mounts since I have more money than time these days. Do these appear to be designed well or do they have some obvious flaw I am missing? |
the only concern I see with those seat mounts are the diameter of the bolt heads on that adjustment bracket. I'd replace those with something that grips a little bit more of the bracket but otherwise looks good.
Any updates on your issues? Did you get it figured out? |

Ryan, can you download the video and then upload it to youtube to share with the rest of the class? And any of the other info?

Ryan's turbo suffocated itself doing some weird asphyxiation masterbation thing before I could rescue it. Updates with pictures will come soon. I am prepping the car for its track debut at.....dun dun dun...Daytona. It will have been a year since it has seen the track and I thought it fitting that I run the same track that ate my last motor. |

Been prepping the car for Daytona. List of things that needed to be done:
1) Send turbo to Southeast Power Systems to figure out why it was leaking oil from the intake side - Done 2) Clean out charge piping of all oil - Done 3) Install LS2 coils - Harness Done. Just need to mount coils. 4) Heat shielding - 90% complete (Exhaust and Engine Bay) 5) Finish ducting - 50% complete 6) Finish tuning - Not started I would like to say that Southeast Power Systems is amazing. They are certified to do warranty work on BW turbos and mainly deal with commercial grade equipment. They looked through my turbo completely and figured out that the reason it was leaking is because I am retarded and do not know how to install and oil drain appropriately :fael: This service was free and they sold me the correct fittings for a reasonable price. They furnished me with a super legit report of everything they did and their diagnosis. Below are a few pieces of the report that summarize the issues. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1445265489 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1445265489 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1445265489 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1445265489 So to fix the problem they sold me this piece with the required bolts and gaskets. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1445265489 I had to cut this down quite a bit for it to work in the space I have but I didn't take any pictures of the process. This is all I have for now. I will be taking pictures of the other things I have completed tonight and making another post with pictures to discuss. Progress! |
brb, gonna go ditch my npt to straight AN adapter and replace it with a 2 bolt flange one.
WTF. Why did they thread it that way if they don't want you to use it that way? |
