The Bill of Rights protect us against the government, 2A included. Watching Australians being put in Covid concentration camps just a year or two after giving up their guns should be a wake-up call for everyone. (...) or simply freezing your bank account if you said the wrong thing.
Consider the bigger picture, however.
The people clamoring for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment (and, really, the Bill of Rights as a whole) are the same ones who have unwavering faith in Big Government always doing the right thing, provided that Orange Man isn't in the white house.
They WANT people who refuse to comply with vaccine mandates to be thrown into camps. They WANT people who say the wrong thing to be severely punished. Things like the 1st, 2nd, and 14th Amendment to be troublesome, antiquated things which merely get in the way of government being able to properly enforce their vision of a utopian society. (Never mind that this was the whole point of those amendments in the first place.)

But I'd postulate a slightly alternate angle. A lot of these folks don't value freedom; they abhor it. Freedom means that other people might think or say the wrong thing. Giving it up isn't a sacrifice, it's a net-gain. If everyone is following the orders of a unified central authority, then there's far less leeway for others to think / speak / behave in inappropriate manners.

Feel free to tell me that I went there, but Big Brother was not "elected." More than ever, after Covid and watching FBI agents in Michigan and the Capitol building, it should be obvious that there was nothing free and fair about the 2020 elections.

I've heard people claim that the CIA assassinated JFK. I've heard people claim that Hitler died peacefully in Argentina in the 1980s. I've heard claims that the moon-landing was staged, that 9/11 was an inside job, that this thing or that thing was a false-flag operation, and on and on and on.
But I don't recall ever hearing anyone claim that the five men arrested while burglarizing the DNC headquarters at the Watergate were actually hired by the DNC itself.
Why have the Republicans and their fanbase left that one alone? Why not be outraged about it and try to convince everyone else that Nixon was framed, that the tapes were fabricated (or that they reflect the proper conduct of a wise and legitimate president), that Woodward & Bernstein were shills who just mouthed the officially-sanctioned narrative from the left as part of their fake news, etc?

The arguments made by the dissenting justices were wildly irrelevant from the issue of constitutionality and current law, prompting Justice Samuel Alito to file a separate, concurring opinion destroying their claims. In 2016 a political party, with the help of the FBI, CIA, DOJ and other branches of government illegally wiretapped a president-elect. The goal was to reduce his power and remove him from office. Scores of people were involved, not a handful of burglars. The "work" continues, as supporters of this president are still be harrassed and arrested. There's no need to go back to Watergate. Watergate was a hiccup compared to what happened in 2016, and continues to happen.
At least some semblance of the rule of law is returning via the recent SCOTUS rulings.
Devin Nunes’ cow has also been on a real tear this morning, urging her fanbase to become single-issue voters in 2024, focused solely on tipping the Supreme Court back into "**** states' rights, and **** individual liberty" territory.
^ She tweets this like it's a bad thing.
But this one really, in all seriousness, bothered me:
No, I do not want three liberals or three conservatives replacing them. I want three non-partisan justices whose primary loyalty is to the Constitution and to the American people.
My group chat of my supposed conservative friends woke me up this morning in Napa to thier tears. No one understands how law works, they all believe abortion is illegal now. One of them even worked for Romney...
I can be sympathetic to women in this situation. They honestly believe they lost their right to something that they have been indoctrinated into believing is the most important thing to a woman ever.
I'm sure many of the women out there protesting today have never had an abortion and will never need an abortion.
They probably also believe that if a man calls himself a woman, he is a woman.
No one can see why this is a huge victory for the Constitution and the United States as a bigger picture , because they are too blinded by their narrow-minded view of how our government should be used has a weapon against their political enemies.
While you make a good point I have a very hard time being sympathetic. Men have never had any reproductive rights, and even now still have less than women.
