I have to assume that the GOP is deliberately using some of its own members as cannon-fodder. By getting them to say progressively more and more insane and outrageous things, they must be hoping to shift the scale in order to make Trump seem moderate by comparison.

You know what I find amazing? That people like Comey and Brennan aren't in prison now. If they have book deals instead of a date with Bubba in the shower, then anything's possible.
However, after learning how much the CIA/FBI has infiltrated our social media to push propaganda and to silence voices that would expose them, it's very safe to assume they have done the same with our news media (just read the news; its obvious). So the story above could quite possibly be a story that the government itself pushed on the public to foster public support around the government controlling your thermostats so they can leverage the exploit for themselves...

No, I still view the fact that a huge number of the files in that data-dump appear to have been either created or altered after the date on which H. Biden relinquished possession of the laptop as meaning that its contents are suspect at best.
However, I recognize the futility of trying to argue such points with certain folks. It's easier to just try to keep pace, and question the latest silly thing.

A: I would never find it absurd to think that anyone's electronic communications are under surveillance by our own government. I take that for granted.
B: It was never an absurd idea, merely one which the libs were trying to deflect attention away from in the name of political correctness. Same as how Monkepox is now m.Pox, and how they stopped naming Covid variants after the place in which they were first discovered and switched to the Greek alphabet. It's not crazy to entertain the notion that Cov-19 was engineered in a lab, nor to accept that it may have evolved as the result of genetic mutation. There's no conclusive evidence to support either assertion irrefutably, and the only reason to state absolutely that it must have been one or the other would be to fit a political narrative.

D: I don't personally recall seeing anyone make that claim, but given all of the stories the left have been weaving concerning the 2020 election, it would not surprise me if they had.
