The Current Events, News, and Politics Thread
Very few people who you'll encounter in this particular thread hate EVs because they may replace internal combustion engines as the norm.
They hate them because EV adoption has become politicized, with politicians and activists at the left end of the spectrum advocating that internal combustion engine ownership is just one of the many personal liberties which we must all agree to sacrifice in order to appease the Scary Climate Monster.

“The events that have unfolded today have been shocking and absurd, starting with the leak of a presumed and premature indictment before the witnesses had testified or the grand jurors had deliberated and ending with the District Attorney being unable to offer any explanation,” the statement began. “In light of this major fumble, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office clearly decided to force through and rush this 98-page indictment. This one-sided grand jury presentation relied on witnesses who harbor their own personal and political interests— some of whom ran campaigns touting their efforts against the accused and/or profited from book deals and employment opportunities as a result. We look forward to a detailed review of this indictment which is undoubtedly just as flawed and unconstitutional as this entire process has been.”

What's the "QUID PRO QUO" for this piece of lawfare? Out of curiosity, what do libs point to as an obscene miscarriage of justice against Biden, where the laws have been ignored completely? This is right up there with the Mar a Lago raid, imo.

The real issue with these indictments is it goes against a large portion of the country's citizen's will and is controlling the election. My question is, what control do we have? What single entity benefits the most from our tax revenue or receives the most of our taxes?
Former FBI counter-intel agent involved in Russia-collusion probe pleads guilty to ...
The former head of counterintelligence for the F.B.I. in New York pleaded guilty in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday to a single reduced charge of conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions and laundering payments from a prominent Russian oligarch.
The plea by the former agent, Charles F. McGonigal, represented a remarkable turn for a man who once occupied one of the most sensitive and trusted positions in the American intelligence community, placing him among the highest-ranking F.B.I. officials ever to be convicted of a crime.

California Democrats push bill to criminalize health care providers who report victims of abuse to police
"This is good news for abusers, terrible news for the abused," Republican Sen. Melissa Melendez said of the bill on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Human traffickers will love this bill."
My state is broken. Badly broken.

One which was originally devised by the oil companies in the 1910s to deter interest in electric vehicles, and then later taken up by the nickel and iron industries after they realized how much money there was to be made in perpetuating the myth that bigger and bigger batteries are an absolute necessity.
The technology to run electric vehicles on completely free electricity harvested out of the air has existed since the early 1920s, and was actually put into production powering real, practical automobiles.
Then, just after the Genoa Conference was convened in 1922 to form a global strategy for monetary and economic reconstruction after WW I, these devices just... vanished. Poof. No more free transportation.

Trump’s attorneys Drew Findling, Jennifer Little, and Marissa Goldberg released a statement early Tuesday, blasting the indictment, as well as the circumstances around it.
The lady who leaked the 4th Trump indictment accidentally hit "send" instead of "save," you guys. Totally understandable.
was there even a grand jury...?
A lawyer who has experience working in that courthouse (Francey Hakes) believes that they were "judge shopping" - entering the indictment into the system over and over again until the "wheel" (the randomization algorithm) gave them the judge they wanted, but then they accidentally posted it live one time.
The more fascinating point remains how this button broke the laws of time and space by publishing something 7.5 hours before it could have existed, and 2 hours before its creators gathered together to begin the process of making it exist.I'm no keyboardologist, ... but it's alllllllmost like it was made, beforehand, by someone other than its grand jury.

Help me understand here because I clearly don't. A "crime" was committed outside of NM. NM is charging someone of this not through the federal court system but through the state system. Yes, the constitution applies to the states, that I get. But it was my understanding before this that a "crime" committed outside of a state was tried by that state (or in this case D.C. which I don't pretend to know how that would work) or by federal courts in say the state this person was from.
Secondary to that, a case was made in New Mexico by the anti-conservative lobbying group Citizens for Ethics, alleging that the Federal conviction upholds that Mr. Griffin did participate in an insurrection, which is thus a disqualifying mark under the US Constitution (which is binding upon all courts and all people in the US.) The New Mexico court agreed, and removed him from office in New Mexico.
If he were to run for office in another state, he would likely face a similar legal challenge in that state, but would not be disqualified from holding office there unless a court in that state finds similarly to the New Mexico decision.
Today after a much contemplation I believe the following.
If Trump is found guilty of anything it will further degrade the quality of the individuals that will run in the future.
None of what he is being accused of is very substantial. This is being done for only one reason and that is to control the outcome of the 2024 election. It is the only way that biden can win.
The dems don't really care if DJT is actually found guilty, they just want to maintain their power. It has worked well for putin.
