I don't post much on Facebook anymore, but I do still browse it every day. I follow a wide variety of people and groups, with themes ranging from ultra-racist / anti-Jewish all the way to Free Palestine / non-binary, with a bit of Midcentury Modern architecture for variety.

It's a good way of keeping informed of what the various political factions are up to.

Today, I saw this post:




Now, some context here is important. The poster, whose name I have removed, is a retired Marine colonel who is married and has three adult children. He was my neighbor for about five years when I lived in San Diego, and we were drinking buddies.

And yet, over the past few years, he's been succumbing more and more to TDS, to the point where he is now literally identifying with Antifa, and claiming that everyone who is not MAGA-aligned is, by default, a member of the "Radical Left."

This is the first time that this sort of thing has genuinely frightened me. Like, you know that sensation when it seems like the blood in your veins has just gone cold? I felt that sensation when I fully realized what he was actually saying here.

 

24-7 of anti-trump/anti-right plastered across every media, book, entertainment, etc will do that to a weak loser.

 

One of my best friends is a retired Marine Colonel. Eccentric would be an understatement to describe him.

 

Years ago I had a job interview with a retired Marine colonel at a large medical device manufacturer. I didn’t go back.
The man was borderline insane. My dad was a Marine, when I told him about it he wasn’t a bit surprised, thought it was funny.

I remember going to a Mexican joint on my lunch break 25 years ago. A fat family of 5 waddled in, ordered an insane amount of food and drink, paid with food stamps, and stuffed their pie holes with cheese and coke. I had to rush back to work to make money to pay taxes to fund the program while they enjoyed their casual Tuesday.

I figure if there must be an assistance program, just give them cash. Let them figure it out. Snap is nutrition assistance?

Our government is unserious. These expenditures sound like a joke, which means they probably are. It's like the NGO's; this money goes to grease palms and fund PAC's, NOT for vasectomies in Zambia.

Can you confirm what's going on in Chicago? Is Chicago a power keg?

 

There have been several clashes in some of the more ethnic neighborhoods, including the non-fatal shooting of a woman who tried to run over some ICE agents with her car. (They did not like that.)

In the more civilized parts of the city, it's business as usual at the moment.

This of course has the potential to turn into something akin to the George Floyd riots in 2020, during which the violence did spread into the downtown area and towards the northern neighborhoods, but as of right now, it appears to just be individual incidents of uncoordinated and mostly peaceful violence directed specifically at federal troops.

 

I just hope they can learn to sing Kumbaya together in the next few weeks, as I'm due to travel there mid-November for work.
