hiring veterans for a "paramilitary police organization" is more likely going to push the organization further away from militarization. Veterans are more willing to protect the freedoms that they fought to preserve rather than to push for an appointed leaders power-hungry agenda. They have also had real life military experiences, so they don't feel the need to pretend - kind of like trying out your favorite twisty road the week after you do your first ever track day. It's no longer as thrilling, and you no longer feel the need to push it to the limit.

Pittsburgh police beat 18-year-old violinist, honor student - Matthew Newton - Annals of Americus - True/Slant

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1376770547

On the night of January 11, Jordan Miles, an 18-year-old violinist and honor student at Pittsburgh’s prestigious Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) high school, was allegedly beaten by three undercover Pittsburgh Police officers. Miles was reportedly en route to his grandmother’s house at the time, though he never reached his destination:

...

Miles’ account of the event contrasts that of the three officers. In response to why he resisted, Miles stated that the men never identified themselves as police officers and he believed they were trying to abduct him. So he ran and was quickly Tasered. Then, after falling to the ground, he resisted and was kneed in the ribs and struck with multiple closed-fist punches to the head. During the struggle, Miles’ family and attorney also reported that a chunk of his hair was yanked out (see photo) and a tree branch pierced his gums. And according to news reports, Miles has no prior criminal record.

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan: His bizarre defense of the shooting of Roy Middleton. - Slate Magazine

Two Florida cops shot an innocent, unarmed man in his own driveway. And then their sheriff started talking.

Two weeks ago, two Florida deputies shot 15 rounds at a 60-year-old unarmed Florida man who was looking for his cigarettes in his mother’s car, parked in his own driveway. Two of those bullets hit him in his left leg, which was shattered. Roy Howard Middleton says he was compliant when the cops told him to turn around. He says that as he was turning around to face deputies with his hands raised, they opened fire. (He believed his neighbors were playing a practical joke on him). The two deputies said they were responding to a 911 call about a car thief and that Middleton turned and “lunged” at them with a shiny object in his hand. Middleton is black. The two sheriff’s deputies are white.

Sheriff David Morgan of Escambia County hastily took to the airwaves to explain that “the tragedy of this is the noncompliance to the directions of law enforcement officers," and that Middleton was “both a suspect and a victim." The two deputies were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Sheriff Morgan was quick to clarify for CNN that the officers followed the correct protocols. “Right now we are comfortable from a training perspective that our officers did follow standard protocols. I believe the standard we use and train to is a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, which is a reasonable test.” Morgan went on to note that “[t]his is a common occurrence. We live in a very violent society.” Presumably the irony was unintentional.

Very bad experience with LAPD last night; I used to trust and support police, now I've lost all faith.

I moved to L.A in May of last year, and I've always been in support of the police force. A relative of mine is a cop in my hometown, and I've always been the guy to defend police; I'm always the person to say police are generally good people, they help us, etc. I was someone who would always be willing to cooperate and help whenever possible, because I trusted that whatever police were doing must have been right.

That changed last night.

I was on the sunset strip and I bought an alcoholic beverage, as I have many times before. I was walking down drinking, passing many police officers and people with no problems.

A friend wants to meet me at Hollywood/highland, so I walk over there. Right at Hollywood/highland, I see a musician playing and decide to talk to him- I'm a musician myself so I'm always looking for other musicians to connect with. As I'm talking to him, I sudden feel somebody grab my wrists and turn around to see a cop. He is grabbing the can with one hand, and grabbing my arm with another. He using a very aggressive level of force, and without explanation I was dragged to the side and handcuffed. I was trying to ask him what was going on, but only told to turn around and face the wall in response. He then told me I was being detained because of an "open container" rule, meaning the alcohol. I had never heard of this before, and go out on sunset of a regular basis holding open containers of alcohol; in fact I've had face to face conversations with cops before while holding containers of alcohol on the street.

So it was explained that it was illegal to carry any alcoholic beverage with an open top end, well ok. Wouldn't it have been better to just come up to me and say "Excuse me sir, you're not allowed to have that. You need to throw it away"...perhaps? I obviously would have been happy to do so. I don't think sneaking up behind someone and grabbing them is a good way to do it. Keep in mind, I've never heard of this open container law, and had no idea I was in violation of the law. When I asked why he was doing this, he replied "because I can."

It's important to now that I wasn't acting visibly drunk at all, because I wasn't drunk. I had just started drinking. The officer pointed out I had dilated pupils, but I've always had large pupils, and how would he have known that initial from 30 feet away anyway?

The officers attitude was very hostile and unfriendly. Soon there were 4 officers on the scene, and I was still told to face the wall while talking. I really didn't feel good about this guy, so I didn't want to give him my personal information. He was telling me I had 2 choices- either 1. I give him my info and I get a ticket 2. I don't and go to jail.

This didn't sound right to me, so I asked for a supervisor, saying I'd rather speak to him. The supervisor showed up and was worse; he refused to listen, and only repeated the 2 choices. Ok, at that point I decided I had no choice, and that I'll give my info and get the ticket.

I started asking the supervisor about the ticket, something like "so about the ticket..." but then was immediately cut off, and he said" take him jail!" I was saying "wait, I'm trying to give my info!" but to no avail. I was taken to jail.

I had to have someone come in the pay a $20 bail, or else I would have been in jail until Monday morning.....seriously? 3 days in jail because of that? I was definitely expressing my unhappiness with the situation, but not in a disrespectful or aggressive way, and nothing I regret saying, and it was obviously that some of cops around were uncomfortable with what the one cop was doing. At the station, one of the cops said (without directly saying) that he wouldn't have arrested me, and that he completely disagreed with what was going on.

that being said, they did nothing to try and help the situation either.

That ended last month when Rochester police shot and killed Cinnamon, touching off a series of interactions with police that left James searching for explanations.

James was arrested twice in the days after the July 11 shooting. The first arrest came when he was accused of not controlling Cinnamon, who police said appeared dangerous.

The second arrest came days later, after police received threatening 911 calls from an untraceable cell phone — calls that police now acknowledge had no connection to James.

Cop Convicted Of Second-Degree Manslaughter For Shooting 5-Yr-Old Boy In Back Of Head Gets Record Expunged, Now Free Again To Become An Officer - informationliberation

Five year old Austin Haley was out fishing with his grandfather when police officer Paul Bradley Rogers shot his firearm in a failed attempt to kill a snake hiding in someone's birdhouse. The bullet passed through the birdhouse onto the Haley's property, with the first bullet the officer fired passing right between Austin's grandfather's legs and into their lake. Austin's grandfather then screamed out,"Stop, don't shoot! There’s someone down here!"

Six seconds later, officer Paul Bradley Rogers fired another shot, he again missed the snake, but the bullet struck five year old Austin in the back of the head, killing him.

...

Now, thanks to what's being described as a "loophole," the officer just had his record expunged, which means he is now free again to become a police officer.

If there are any of the for-real elite soldiers in the police force, those guys have values and decision making skills that far exceed the idiocy of using military tactics on non-dangerous citizens. The Government Took This Man's Raccoon Away Because of a Viral Video | VICE United States

...But Mark “Coonrippy” Brown’s clip (above) of him dancing with his four-legged companion Gunshow has gone viral viral since he posted it in July 2012, racking up more than 1 million views on YouTube and attracting so much attention it was featured on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America, which are like YouTube for old people.

It got some not-so-welcome attention, however—according to Coonrippy, the video became so popular that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) decided to step in and confiscate his raccoon, Rebekah, in late July. (By this time, Gunshow had gone on to that great hollow tree in the sky, but Coonrippy had a new raccoon pet.) Rebakah was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center, even though arguably all she needed to be “rehabilitated” from was having a decent life as part of a family.

On August 10th, we arrived on the scene of a party in the midst of a fight occurring between certain people who were at the party, however no police had shown up yet, so we waited until the inevitability of the arrival of police.

Sure enough, police arrived on the scene mere minutes after we did. We stuck around on the public sidewalk and observed the actions of all of the officers that showed up. From what we could tell, a majority of those at the party had run inside of a house, and locked the doors, although we did not witness anything ourselves.

After the officers had arrested those who stayed outside, a number of them converged on the suspected house, banging on the door and shouting for those inside to open the front door. As this was happening, an officer approached us and attempted to question us. Although I offered a few responses of "no" on and off, I stonewalled the officer's attempt at further, and more detailed answers. This apparently irritated the officer, who asked to see my ID, which I refused. Further into the encounter, he claimed another officer had been assaulted at the party. He then called me a "smartass" for questioning why an officer had been at the party, which at the time I was wondering if they had tried to "infiltrate" an officer into the party, which isn't common, but has happened before. When the officer who was "assaulted" came up and tried asking questions, I in turn, began questioning her and how she was assaulted. At this point, all of the officers quickly turned around and left. I told the officer I had questions for her, she replied that she would come over and answer our questions when they were done. We waited over two hours for the entire scene to be over and done with, and every officer took off, never returning to us to answer our questions.

I apologize for the shaky camera and lack of proper lighting, but we were trying to stay out of the way of the investigation.

here's what I love about this video:

You do not have to give ID to an officer in Nevada just a name and nothing more. What the officers did to me in the video violated my fourth amendment rights. Listen to what I am being charged with and his reasoning for the charge. I wish Boulder City had competent officers on its force. Thanks to the BCPD officer who pointed the M16 at my face and then spread my arrest on Facebook without any of the story. Shame on the Boulder City Review for such trashy reporting of events. Biased assholes. I was found guilty of nothing after a week in jail. Look for my arrest photo...they left me so bloody they won't release the mugshot. Bellingham to pay $15K to man who wore gun in park | www.kirotv.com

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Lawyers say Bellingham has agreed to pay $15,000 to a man who was threatened by a police officer for wearing a holstered gun in a city park.
John Laigaie (lah-GAY') III is a 64-year-old, retired U.S. Army master sergeant and Second Amendment advocate. He says he was walking his dog in the park on Dec. 19, 2011, and openly carrying his 9 mm handgun on his hip when an officer approached him, demanded identification and told him it was illegal to have a gun in the park.
Laigaie says that when he told the officer it wasn't illegal and offered to show him a copy of the state law, the officer drew his gun and pointed it at Laigaie's chest from three feet away.
Laigaie was eventually allowed to leave the park with his gun. His attorneys, with the Lustick Law Firm of Bellingham, say the city also agreed to provide police and 911 operators with additional training to prevent similar confrontations in the future.

Tased and Confused The Santa Barbara Independent

http://media.independent.com/img/cro...7026450162bdb2

The manager and co-owner of a State Street restaurant is claiming he was seriously and wrongfully injured by Santa Barbara police officers during an altercation at the height of the Fiesta celebrations.

Skye McGinnes — the stepson of city councilmember Bendy White who oversees operations at Relais de Paris, owns a slice of Arlington Tavern, and runs SkyeLine Construction — alleges that, as he was trying to kick an unruly patron out of the French eatery on August 3, two SBPD officers tasered him without warning then slammed him into the pavement, breaking his nose, shattering his eye socket, and mangling his ear.

According to McGinnes, he and one of the restaurant’s bouncers were closing down the bar shortly before midnight when they made Daniel Battaglia leave because he was intoxicated and acting aggressively. Though Battaglia was escorted out a back door that looks onto De La Guerra Plaza, the 30-year-old tried to get in again soon after. McGinnes went outside to keep him out, and the two started wrestling with property’s back gate with Battaglia spitting on McGinnes and McGinnes kicking Battaglia through the bars.

“Before I knew it, I was getting tased,” remembered McGinnes, claiming he received no warnings or commands from the police to stop struggling with Battaglia. After feeling the Taser’s metal prongs pierce his back and the jolt of electricity run through his nervous system, McGinnes said he was slammed face-down onto the ground with the officers digging their knees into his back and head as they put him in handcuffs.

Repost from Jackson MI Copblock and Copblock.org
On 4-28-2013, I was illegally arrested for filming the police in a public setting, resisting and opposing. The video shows the aggressive tactics employed by Sgt. Hibbard Badge #030 of the Jackson City Police Department.
I was standing a good distance away from, and not interfering at all with, the traffic stop Sgt Hibbard and Officer Hossain were conducting. Sgt Hibbard noticed me filming and actively seeks me out. He is the aggressor. He demands I surrender my camera, my personal property.
When I refuse he goes into contempt of cop mode and assault's me, ripping the camera from my hand and throwing it to the ground breaking it.
That's is when my video stops and my ordeal begins. I was hand cuffed, detained, and humiliated in public for close to one hour.
Sgt Hibbard stole the memory card from my camera. He would not provide a receipt for the property he stole. The following day I filed a formal complaint with the JPD. Today, 4-30-2013, I was cleared of all charges.
The same day the charges were rescinded, I filled assault and battery charges, among a few of others, against Sgt. Hibbard with my local state police. The state police are investigating the charges. So hopefully Sgt Hibbard will get to see the other side of the witness box in court. We must all stand together to fight this assault on the Constitution.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 44-year-old man climbed onto the roof of his apartment and began acting strangely. Police arrived to help him down, but instead ended up killing him.

...

Michael Angel Ruiz had a history of drug addiction. On July 28, for reasons unknown, he climbed onto the roof of his apartment. Witnesses called the police to protect his safety. This turned out to have been a fatal decision.

First they tased him several times on the roof. He finally complied and hopped down. Cops immediately swarmed him and put him in a choke-hold.

Witness Gary Carthen said that Ruiz was "getting choked out and tased at the same time." He remained in a choke-hold for at least three minutes.

The most disturbing moments were to come. Michael Ruiz, now fully restrained, was dragged down the concrete stairs on his face. As deputies held his arms behind his back, they allowed his head to dangle and thump against every stair. At this point Ruiz may have already lost consciousness, and was making no attempt to lift his head. Video shows him lifelessly suffering head trauma on the descent down the stair case.

"I just felt sick to my stomach," said Richard Erickson, a retired police detective. "I'd never seen anything like this before, even when I was with the police department."

IamA Cop who blew the whistle and was forced to resign AMA!

I worked for a small Sheriff's Office in Oklahoma. Obviously can't blurt it out because I still live here, and they could make my life more hell if they so choose. However, I know reddit will require proof, so in lieu of blurting it out, I submit [evidence] * asked to delete of the dismissal, and [evidence] asked to delete of a court finding that the Captain was now considered a Brady and Giglio Officer. Okay, story time.

It was a cool Saturday night in March, and I was on regular patrol, out looking for a DUI (my favorite thing to do,) around a local casino (casino's are a hot bed for criminals.) I had just checked on a stranded motorist on a bridge, seeing if they needed any help. Immediately after clearing the car, I received a phone call from my Captain who said he needed me for a special assignment. I drove back to the Sheriff's Office, with several two other full-time Deputies, and two Reserve Deputies. It was explained to us by our Captain that he had made a traffic stop earlier, which yielded a small amount of meth, and he had gotten the driver to flip his dealer. He showed our Captain where he had bought the meth from, and provided a name of the dealer. Our Captain had explained to us that we were going to do a knock and talk with the dealer, and try to develop probable cause to enter the residence for a search. He came up with our game plan, which also called for us to detain friends of the dealer that lived next door to him (illegal detention,) due to them maybe tipping off the dealer, or having contraband on them as well. This is when I started feeling uneasy, but seeing as this is a small department, and I have two kids I have to feed, I went with it. We then left and headed to the location of the dealer.

While enroute, we stopped a few miles short to designate who would detain the neighbors, and it was decided that one full-time Deputy and two Reserves would, and I would accompany the Captain to the door while another full-time Deputy watched out back. I then took this time to ask the Captain if we needed a search warrant. I explained to him that when I was a Deputy in the Houston area, we would call the judge and get a "verbal" warrant to enter while someone went and picked up the original and a copy from the Judges office for the homeowner. He said he had spoken to the Assistant District Attorney and she told him that he needed no warrant for a knock and talk, which should have been common knowledge to him. I then took his word that the A.D.A. knew what he/she was talking about and we were to do a knock and talk.

As we approached the house, we were ordered to go lights out, which was odd to me. I then got out of my car and followed the Captain up to the house. A female subject met us at the door, and asked what we needed. That is when my Captain asked if the suspect was home, and she stated he wasn't. Captain then moved the girl to the side and started to walk into the residence. The female then protested, saying "Hey, you can't go in there!" to which my Captain replied, "Yes we can." I made the decision to follow my Captain in, in case he got into a shoot out, because if I refused to follow and he got hurt, I would have been fired. Also because I didn't want to have to explain why I let a fellow Deputy get killed in the line of duty with no action taken by me.

I was ordered by the Captain to stand with the girl in the kitchen, while he and the outside Deputy (very good friends with one another,) searched the house. After the search, Captain came back and showed the female that he had found some weed on a dresser in a room that no one was in. He had also found an infant child and another juvenile in the house, on the other side of the bedroom where the weed was found. My Captain explained to the female that he would charge her with child endangerment for having the children in the same house as the weed if she did not call the suspect and have him return home, to which she complied. He then had me stand outside of the house with the female which he kept the scene secure. He also ordered the juvenile with watching the infant baby inside of the house. About an hour had passed, then the suspect had shown up and was detained at gun point and sat in a car. By then, I had sat the female in my car because she was complaining of being cold. The Captain then questioned the handcuffed suspect in his car for probably two hours before the suspect signed a consent to search form to search the residence for the drugs and contraband he had found. After the retrieved it, he then released the female and took the suspect to jail.

June of the same year, I received a subpoena from the court for the case. I then went and printed out the report, because I wasn't asked to do a supplement, so I could review it. I then noticed several lies, saying that the female had given the Captain consent to search the house, and the suspect detained offered to sign the consent to search form before the house was searched. I immediately got a sickening feeling in my stomach, because I knew I was supposed to corroborate this in court, which I could not do. I then went and told everything to a Deputy whom I trusted and who had FTO'ed me into my transition from a Deputy in a big department in Houston, to here. He gave his advice, and said that I was in a tough spot, being if I told on the Captain, my life would be hell. I decided to contact the A.D.A. that Captain had spoken with myself, and found that he/she told him he certainly needed a search warrant to get into the house. I explained to her what truly happened, and told her I could not testify for Captain's case. She relayed this to the D.A. and the case was dismissed.

All the Deputies that were on the scene that night were ordered to write affidavits, and it's then when I was told that the two Reserve Deputies had came forward around the same time I did, questioning the legality of it all. Then the D.A. had hearings, which I showed earlier, which decided he was a Brady (liar) Officer.

During June of 2012 until I quit in May 2013, the Captain was allowed to stay Captain, and my supervisor, and I had found out that he had been given access to the affidavits we had written. He was allowed to stay my supervisor, and review my report and such. In between this time, he did all he could to make my life hell. Calling me out for everything little thing I did (in my county, we do not work accidents. Dispatch had advised of an accident close to me, which I then turned on my lights and siren to get to, since I was trained in first aid and thought that serving the public is what I swore an oath to do, he called me out publicly over the radio. He did the same when I was running hot to a gas and go that was in progress.) This may seem trivial, and it might be, but it is embarrassing to have it done publicly. January of 2013, at the beginning of the month, I had gotten into a pursuit and arrested a suspect. I then filed my report, and my Sgt. and Lt. were the first to review it. They called me into the office and laughed at me because I had written fishing tailed instead of fishtailed, I fixed the mistake and laughed at how stupid it sounded with them. They were good guys, and had also helped mentor me. I then placed the report in my Sgt.'s box (open boxes on a wall, unsecured.) At the end of the month, I had gotten hurt (tore labrum in my shoulder,) on duty. While I was out, I had gotten a call from my Lt. stating that the Captain was saying I never turned in my arrest report. I told him I had in fact turned it in, because they made fun of me and saw me turn it in the night it happened. He remembered this. My Captain then went to the Undersheriff, in an attempt to say that I had refused to turn the report in, and tried getting me fired. My Captain then produced the report to the Undersheriff saying he had just found it in my box. In my state, refusing to turn an arrest report into the D.A. is a felony, which is what he did.

About a month later, I was still off for my shoulder, and I got a call from my Undersheriff ordering me to talk to a private investigator about the incident with the drug dealer. The Sheriff had contacted an outside investigator, whom he had ties to, and wasn't a law enforcement investigator to "look into" the incident. It was then I found out that the Captain was really good friends with the Sheriff as well. I spoke with the investigator about everything. He asked me a few questions about the incident, but mostly about my personal life, in which I'm assuming was to try to find a reason to discredit me, but could have been done with the best intentions, you decide on that. In May, I was contacted by the Undersheriff, stating that I was being demoted from Patrol Deputy to the jail because of my arm injury. In my mind, it was because of the Captain's incident, and my willingness to cross the blue code and bring to light what had happened. I refused the demotion and quit. I got a lawyer and recently found out that I cannot sue as a peace officer, because most whistleblower lawsuits are tied in with the first amendment of free speech, my whistle blowing was not considered free speech because I had a duty to report the incident, so I could not sue. And as far as wrongful termination, well, I quit. And here I am today, on Reddit, trying to defend good cop's by saying a vast majority of us are nothing like this Captain. AMA from the incident, or general police questions!

Edit: Trying to answer all the questions. I will be back in 30 mins or so, driving my daughter home from the splash pad.
Edit: Well in the last 2 hours, four sheriff's cars have slowly driven by my home. I think I might have rustled some jimmies. I know they are reading this and looking for a way to discredit me. They tried the same thing when someone tried to run against the Sheriff in last years election. Made throw away topix and Facebook accounts and talked trash. I hope to see you here Captain, explain your side to them.
Edit 3: I'll be grilling some food, I'll be out of commission for a while. I will try to answer as many as I can when I get back. I have nothing better to do on my off time.
Edit 4: I tried to answer all the questions, but I now must sleep. If I see a few more I'll try to get them tomorrow!

A Baltimore police detective who claimed he was shot by another man and sought worker’s compensation has been convicted of perjury and fraud.

A Baltimore Circuit Court jury also convicted Anthony N. Fata Wednesday of misconduct in office. Sentencing is set for Oct. 21.

Fata, a 14-year veteran, said he was shot on Jan. 18, 2011 in a garage near police headquarters by another man and returned fire. He suffered a graze wound to his thigh.

Prosecutors say Fata shot himself to obtain worker’s compensation benefits.

Police Shoot Therapy Dog As They Raid Wrong Address Looking For Man With Expired Vehicle Registration | Police State USA

LEANDER, TX — Leander Police went to the home of James and Renata Simmons acting on a warrant for unpaid vehicle registration on June 17, 2013. The warrant, however, was for a completely different town – Cedar Park, TX, and was for a person named Bradly Neal Simpson, someone the Simmons family, who have lived at this address for the past nine years, have never even heard of.
I just let my registration lapse 3 months and just got a ticket for; I'm REALLY happy they didn't bust into my house and shoot my cats and seize my property and sell it as it was used in a crime.

Holy fucking shit.

Los Angeles PD Pinned my 60 year-old Dad to the ground after he tripped and fell getting out of his car.

My Dad is 60, has a bad back and bad shoulders. It's difficult for him to stand up quickly or sit down. He pulled into a PepBoys parking lot to return an item, and there happened to be a police car about 30 feet away with one officer talking to an homeless man and another officer near the squad car.

As my Dad gets out hand slips off the door and he stumbles forward and eventually trips and falls. As he's getting up, he hears a cop yelling at him to "Stay Down" and then he gets kicked in the back of the legs and pinned down on the ground. The other officer runs over and puts his knee on the back of my Dad's neck and pushes his face into the ground. They pinned my Dad to the ground for 20 minutes while they yelled at him about respecting the police. My dad says "I've done nothing wrong, why are you doing this?" and they push his arms further up his back and tell him they will be asking the questions. My Dad tried explaining he has a bad back and simply fell out of his car.

During that time they search his car for his ID (my dad left his wallet in the passenger seat), find it, but then decide to search his trunk. They go through all the compartments and his saxophone case. One officer explains to my Dad that my Dad made an aggressive move toward their car and that's why they had to pin him down. After 30 minutes they allow him to get up off the ground, and finally they drive off and toss my dad's wallet out of their car into his trunk as they leave.

Anybody know a good attorney in the Los Angeles area?

Cop Tases handcuffed girl in back, now braindead!

The Florida Highway Patrol have cleared 267-pound Trooper Daniel Cole of wrongdoing and have released a disturbing dash cam video that captured him tasing a 100 pound, 20 year old handcuffed girl in the back as she fled. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement determined Trooper Daniel Cole's "use of force" was justified when he tased the woman last September at the FHP Pinellas Park Substation and cleared him of wrongdoing. The fleeing woman, Danielle Maudsley, 20, suffered severe brain damage after hitting her head on the concrete and has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since.

The video shows Maudsley fleeing a back door of the substation with Cole following closely behind

Maudsley's mother said the trooper should have used other means to stop her daughter from fleeing. "He was right behind her. He could've reached out," Maudsley said. "It was unnecessary." The mother hired defense attorney Kevin Haylsett, who put FHP on notice for a lawsuit. Hayslett said Cole violated FHP's taser policy which states: "Fleeing cannot be the sole reason for the deployment." "When you shoot someone in the back, and they're running away, all that force -- as you saw when Danielle's head hit the concrete -- that's why they don't allow you to do that, because you can have horrible tragedies like this," Hayslett said.

Beware of Warrior Cops - Reason.com

We need police to catch murderers, thieves and con men, and so we give them special power -- the power to use force on others. Sadly, today’s police use that power to invade people’s homes over accusations of trivial, nonviolent offenses -- and often do it with tanks, battering rams and armor you’d expect on battlefields...

Man arrested during BMW test drive | www.wsbtv.com

ATLANTA — A man who went car shopping in Gwinnett County ended up in jail during a test drive.

Jon-Christopher Sowells had just driven a BMW out of Philips Motors on Highway 78 in Snellville when an officer stopped him.

Sowell told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh he pulled over, unclear about why the Snellville police officer stopped him.

"He said you don't have any tags on the car. I said, ‘No problem, I don't have any tags on this car because it's not my car. The dealer is right there we can get it all clarified,’” Sowells said.

...

“They asked me to get out of the car. I said 'I don't feel comfortable.' They commenced to open up the car door and they tried to drag me out of the door by my left arm," he said.

At that point, Sowells says, the officer had called for backup.

According to the police report, Sowells pulled away from the officers. Two officers grabbed their Tasers and Sowells got out of the car. He was arrested for obstruction.
im assuming charges were dropped; i mean that's the whole point of an obstruction charge. It's basically like flexing muscles.
