Probation Officer Shoots and Kills 2-Year-Old Jack Russell Terrier, Said He Gave Dog Verbal Command to Get Back - Hit & Run : Reason.com

http://cloudfront-media.reason.com/m...pg?h=188&w=250

Antoine Jones, a probation officer with the Albany Probation Office in Georgia, went to the home of Cherrie Shelton to check in on her son and ended up shooting her 12-pound Jack Russell terrier, Patches, killing him. Shelton apparently called the Albany Police Department on the officer, which means he gave a statement to police.

According to the report filed with the Albany Police Department, Officer Antoine Jones stands at 6 feet tall and weighs nearly 300 pounds. The responding officer quoted Jones in the report saying, "He stated that he gave the dog verbal commands to get back but the dog continued to come towards him in an aggressive manner so he fired one shot at the dog using his duty weapon."

Tampa police sergeant fired, charged with welfare fraud | Tampa Bay Times

TAMPA — Tampa police detectives eavesdropping on a jail inmate's phone calls heard a voice they did not expect:

Their own agency's Sgt. La Joyce Houston talking to an inmate named Rita Girven, the biological mother of a girl Houston had adopted years ago.

The two women conspired to let Houston use Girven's food stamps, doled out on an electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, card, police say. On Sept. 10, Houston used it to buy $365 in groceries at a Gibsonton Walmart.

Funny thing happened today. Had a crazy lady come to the school i work at today, we went into lock down the whole 9 yards. The lady ends up laying on a lawn across the street from the school. After waiting 25 minutes for an Allen Park officer to show up (none ever ended up coming) a Lincoln Park cop came.

Remember, from the post brain made with

Anyway, the lady did nothing illegal (that i saw) she was just talking crazy and had some type of mental condition(or more likely on drugs). So when we turned her away she left to go across the street and sleep. Once the officers showed up they talked with her a bit and ended up sending her off in an ambulance.

My coworkers and i got in quiet an argument as to why she wasn't cuffed and "taken downtown". Well either way, it looks like the Lincoln Park cops are on their best behavior and doing their job properly.

If it's a dog, then it needs to be shot. If you start letting dogs roam free they might start living with us humans and taking over the world. they are a real threat to our safety and freedom.

Woman: Video obtained by FOX31 Denver shows Berthoud officer beating child | KDVR.com

The town of Berthoud’s police chief and a second officer were on leave and under criminal investigation Monday.

Earlier in the day it was reported that a Sergeant from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office was acting police chief for Berthoud.

FOX31 Denver spoke with the accuser in this case Monday night and obtained a video she says she turned over to Berthoud police in April, and the police chief did nothing about it.
The accuser claims the video shows her ex-boyfriend, a Berthoud police officer, allegedly beating his child.

A warning: the video the accuser claims she sent to police is difficult to watch.
FOX31 Denver verified the video was shot by the woman who claims it shows a Berthoud police officer repeatedly striking a child. We are not identifying the accuser at her request.

The video shows a man hitting the child and then kicking her.

Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies Shoot Elderly Man in his Bed | Bergener & Associates

SWAT Style Raid on a Multi-Unit Property
On the morning of June 27th, deputies of the LASD narcotics division carried out a search warrant based on an officer’s claim of meth and chemical smells coming from the property in Littlerock. The deputies entered Eugene’s bedroom. There, deputies allege that Eugene gripped and leveled a pistol at them. The deputies shot and killed Eugene while he was in bed.

In statements published by KPCC Southern California Public Radio, Deputy Peter Gomez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said, “the suspect’s weapon, marijuana, and marijuana-growing equipment were recovered at the scene.”

It is important to remember that the “scene” is multi-unit property where Mr. Mallory was not the only resident. But he did happen to be the only one who was present in his home when the SWAT style raid occurred.

...

According to statements obtained by our firm, deputies present at the shooting claim Mr. Mallory exited his bedroom with a handgun. According to them, Mr. Mallory was standing in the doorway with both of his hands holding a .22 revolver straight in front of him before being shot. He did not discharge his weapon. Looking at the trajectory of the bullets, we believe that it is extremely unlikely that Mallory, who was 6 feet 4 inches tall, was standing. Instead, this evidence suggests that he may have been sitting up in his bed.

Bedford dad: Ex-cop Coco should go before jury | New Hampshire Crime

Roy Drukker said his son — Dean Drukker, 18 — probably would have died in the hit-and-run accident had his son's companion, Noah Hickman, not been conscious and able to summon help. Hickman was also hit in the accident.

http://www.unionleader.com/storyimag...q=100&maxw=350

"The real seriousness of this issue is running off," Drukker said. "You run over the top of Dean, and you leave the scene, and you seem to have no concern if he's alive or dead."

Coco has been accused of hitting Drukker and Hickman with the undercover police vehicle on the night of March 22, after leaving a gathering in Drukker's Bedford neighborhood. Earlier this year, Bedford police charged Coco with two felony counts of conduct after an accident, the legal wording for the more commonly known charge of hit and run.

But a grand jury has never indicted Coco in the case. Last month, the prosecutor named to try the case said the misdemeanor charges were part of his prosecution strategy. Prosecutor Marc Hathaway said Monday he could not comment any further about the case, citing ethical standards prosecutors have to follow.

Cell phone video shows off-duty deputy attempt to arrest soldier - wistv.com - Columbia, South Carolina |

The veteran deputy, 49-year-old Paul Derrick, was placed on leave without pay after he was arrested following the October 7 incident at Buffalo Wild Wings on Devine Street.

According to a Columbia Police Department incident report, around 11 p.m. Derrick approached a female soldier from Fort Jackson who appeared to be upset. The report states 23-year-old Brittany Ball showed no interest in Derrick and the two started arguing.

Police say Derrick, who was not in uniform and was drinking alcohol, left the restaurant and returned with handcuffs he retrieved from his vehicle.

Derrick overpowered Ball, handcuffed her, pulled her to her feet, and slammed her head into a metal table, the report states. Ball, according to the report, was also drinking alcohol.

Cell phone video recorded by a bar patron Steven Hughes details the events as they unfolded on the patio of the restaurant.

Neighbors Question Clarksville Police Shooting - NewsChannel5.com | Nashville News, Weather & Sports

Police are retarded.

Clarksville Police said a coyote infected with distemper was putting a neighborhood in the north part of town in danger Monday morning.

Police ended up using a shotgun to put the coyote down in the middle of the street, but it's where those shotgun blasts ended up that has neighbors upset.

Neighbors said when police fired the rounds to kill the dangerous coyote, some of them ricocheted -- hitting a nearby pickup and even breaking through the window of a home, into the bedroom of a teenage girl fast asleep on her day off of school.

Clarksville police said Monday's shooting was under an internal investigation, so they haven't said much more about what happened.

The girl who woke up to the shotgun blast said she wasn't injured, but things could have been much worse, because the shotgun slug fragment came just feet from where she was sleeping.

"If I had my blinds up and I was in my closet trying to pick out an outfit for today, I would've been dead," said Elizabeth Ward.

There is no word about whether the officer or officers involved are on administrative leave pending the internal investigation.

Police said an animal control officer was too far away this morning to respond to this call quickly.

"An innocent blind man was shot in the back with a 50,000-volt Taser by police after they mistook his white stick for a samurai sword.

Colin Farmer, 61, was hit after reports of a man walking through Chorley, Lancashire, early on Friday evening, with a sword. He said he initially thought he was being attacked by hooligans when he was struck by the Taser.

The matter is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after Farmer made a complaint to the force.

Farmer, who used to run an architects' practice, was on his way to meet friends at 5.45pm and was walking in Peter Street near a restaurant. "I was just walking along and I heard some men shouting really angrily and thought I'm going to get mugged. I didn't know any police were here.

"The Taser hit me in the back and it started sending all these thousands of volts through me and I was terrified. I mean I had two strokes already caused by stress. I dropped the stick involuntarily and I collapsed on the floor face down."

He added: "I was shaking and I thought 'I'm going to have another stroke any second and this one is going to kill me. I'm being killed. I'm being killed'."*Cenk Uygur and Sam Schacher (host of PopTrigger) break down why Farmer was tasered, his condition now, and what he may be planning to do next.

Charlotte man videotapes CMPD holding him at gunpoint - WBTV 3 News, Weather, Sports, and Traffic for Charlotte, NC

Darryl Cannady says he didn't know why a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officer was pulling him over. And he didn't understand why the officer drew his gun on him. So, he decided to record the police stop on his cell phone.

"This guy immediately pulled me over, hopped out of the car in no less than ten seconds and drew his firearm" says Cannady. "I mean he had it deadlocked on me. I was scared. I was scared. I'm not going to lie. I didn't know what was going to happen."

The 23-year-old says he was driving along Tuckaseegee Road as it turns into Thrift. He says the CMPD officer made a U-turn and pulled him over.

"Pulls out the gun - I get scared. I get nervous because I don't know what he going to do. I heard about the guy that got shot - walking up to the police officer for help - he got shot ten times" Cannady says.

In the video, which Cannady uploaded to YouTube, the officer can be heard ordering Cannady to put his hands out the window.

Florida: Police Sergeant Fired Over Bogus DUI Arrest

Police in Tampa, Florida on Friday fired Sergeant Ray Fernandez over his role in a bogus arrest of a prominent lawyer for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Tampa officers arrested C. Philip Campbell Jr on January 23, just two weeks into the high-profile defamation trial between prominent radio show hosts Bubba the Love Sponge and Todd MJ Schnitt. Campbell represented Schnitt, and rival attorney Adam Filthaut represented Bubba the Love Sponge.

...

"Sergeant Fernandez has been involved in other questionable DUI arrests. In February, he stopped a sober man, Albert Fox, and arrested him for DUI. In police reports, Sergeant Fernandez claimed that Fox smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had glassy eyes. Nonetheless, Fox passed the breathalyzer test with a 0.0 reading and a state lab found no drugs in a urine sample. Campbell's lawyer, John M. Fitzgibbons, suggests ticket quotas encourage the false arrests.

"A Tampa defense lawyer recently provided me with the personnel file of Officer Dean Uno of the DUI unit," Fitzgibbons wrote in an August 1 letter to the Tampa mayor. "Comments by superiors contain troublesome language strongly suggesting that there is a 'quota' for DUI unit officers."

The documents show that the officer was told to make 150 DUI related arrests with at least 40 percent of them self-initiated (that is, not responding to another officer's call).

Detective Jeanettte Hevel, who was officer of the year in 2003, turned herself in to Tampa Police detectives on grand theft charges at her attorney’s office Friday.

According to the report, a Tampa Police officer recovered four IRS money orders while arresting a suspect on Possession of Marijuana charges on Nov. 15, 2011.

The officer followed standard operating procedures by placing the money orders into evidence. The money orders’ value totaled $1,900.

The evidence log showed that on Dec. 7, 2011, Hevel entered the evidence room to “review evidence.” She actually removed the money orders from the room.

On Dec. 20, 2011, Hevel cashed two of the money orders and received $1,000. On Dec. 21, 2011 she cashed the remaining two money orders for a total of $900. The money was deposited into her personal checking account.

Cleveland police suspend 63 officers over deadly chase - Chicago Sun-Times

A review of a deadly police chase in Cleveland nearly a year ago has led to suspensions for 63 patrol officers who violated orders and department rules, the city’s police chief said Tuesday.

A fleeing driver and passenger were killed when officers fired 137 shots at them in the 23-minute chase that involved five dozen cruisers and wove through residential neighborhoods before ending in gunfire.

...

The hearings did not involve any of the officers involved in the shooting because a county grand jury is investigating possible criminal wrongdoing among the 13 officers who fired their weapons. No weapon or shell casings were found in the fleeing car.

An initial review of the chase found 75 patrol officers violated orders, but the disciplinary hearings reduced that number to 64 officers. All but one received a suspension, with the longest being 10 days, McGrath said.

None of the violations was so serious it warranted termination. Some of the officers received a written warning.

Dog owner: Dog needs to have paw amputated after deputy shot her twice | Local News - WESH Home

A local man is hoping his dog can walk comfortably again after he claims an unrepentant Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy shot her early Tuesday morning.

Chris Widmann, 29, came home from his shift waiting tables at Seasons 52 late Monday night. He said that at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, he let his dog out -- a 9-year-old boxer mix named Pepper -- and had a cigarette before calling it a night.

Then, the motion detector on the Jupiter Farms home he shares with two other people triggered a security light.

Widmann stood up, Pepper started barking and then two silhouetted figures became visible on the side of the home.

"Get your dog," one of the people said, and that's when Widmann realized it was an officer.

Widmann said he then told the deputies four times "She doesn't bite," adding that the dog never lunged toward them.

Nonetheless, a deputy fired two shots into Pepper's shoulder, Widmann said.

"What are you doing?" Widmann said he asked the deputy as he hustled over to comfort his injured pet, now left whimpering on the ground.

"You should have gotten your dog," the deputy told Widmann.

Police officer at fault for arrests of Mandeville-St. Paul's referees

Because of the improper action of one of their own in arresting two officials working the St. Paul's-Mandeville game on Oct. 11, the Covington Police Department may no longer be allowed to serve as security for high school games officiated by the Greater New Orleans Football Officials Association.

And rightfully so. The officer, identified as Stephen Short, exceeded his authority when he arrested referee Jim Radcliff (pictured left) and head linesman Chris Gambino after denying their request that Short remove a group of Mandeville fans who were crowding the sidelines and impeding their movement.

...

At every level of competition, whether it be professional, collegiate or high school, where law enforcement officers are detailed, there is a distinct separation of power.

Officials are in charge of everything that pertains to the competition from the moment they step onto the field or court until the competition ends. Detailed policemen are responsible for crowd control and security, and that includes the security and protection of the officials.

If a situation arises where fans are crowding the sidelines and impeding the movement of the sideline official, as it did in the game between St. Paul's and Mandeville, and the officials ask an attending police officer for assistance in moving the spectators back, it is the duty of that cop do so and immediately.

Instead, this particular policeman used the power of his position to goad the officials into a confrontation that led to their arrests and subsequent fines for alleged "intimidation."

Say something again. Say something again, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, say something one more Goddamn time!

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Dramatic footage is released of a D.C. police officer assaulting an employee at a store in Northeast D.C. because the employee allegedly made a sarcastic remark at the officer.

Officer Clinton Turner, 42, pleaded guilty to simple assault earlier this week in connection with the 2011 incident.

Turner is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 1. The offence carries a maximum 180 day jail sentence.

It all took place at the downtown Locker Room store at Minnesota and Benning northeast on January 20, 2011.

Store clerk Daniel Fox and the officers, who were seated in the store, were friendly at first. Then something happened. Fox became angry, gestured at the officers, walked away and sat down near the register.

Turner followed him, and according to court documents, said, "don't let us get you locked up on your birthday."

Fox replied, "why."

"Say something else and will be locked up," the officer said.

Fox, sarcastically said "something else."

Turner grabbed the clerk and started beating him, authorities say and the video shows. Court records say he pulled out clumps of his hair and put him in a choke hold and arrested him for assault.

The problem for the officer is that when authorities viewed the surveillance video, they charged him with assault. And after the beating, the video shows Officer Turner lecturing Fox.

"He could have talked to him in a more calm manner. Violence should never have been used in that manner," says D.C. resident, De-An Owen.

Initially, Turner's partner was also charged but those charges were later dropped.

The defense attorney for Turner, James Rudasill, said: "It's very unusual for a police officer to be charged when there's not substantial injuries or injures requiring hospitalization."

But as U.S. Attorney Ron Machen insisted in an issued statement: "Police officers have a difficult job. When the few cross that line, they will be held accountable. As the judge found in this case, there was no justification for Officer Turner's actions."

Man suing NYPD after candy leads to arrest on drug charges | Fox News

A New York City man reportedly has filed suit in federal court after the NYPD arrested him for possession of methamphetamine that lab tests subsequently revealed to be Jolly Rancher candies.

According to court documents obtained by The Smoking Gun, Love Olatunjiojo of Brooklyn filed the civil rights action this week in connection with the summer arrest, naming not only the city, but also the three arresting police officers and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

The suit reportedly stems from an incident that occurred in Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. on June 20, or just after Olatunjiojo and two pals purchased candy, and specifically two red and four blue Jolly Ranchers, from a local candy shop.

Kenneth Smith, Olatunjiojo's attorney, has since told The Smoking Gun the candies were still in their wrappers when the officers stopped the trio – and searched them.

After finding the Jolly Ranchers, Olatunjiojo and one of his friends were arrested for drug possession, according to the lawsuit.

The Tomahawk - Local News - Mountain City, Tennessee

On Friday, September 27 a call was made from the Dollar General Store on South Shady Street in Mountain City. The call, made by an undisclosed Dollar General employee, was in reference to a squirrel that had made its way into the store and was causing quite a ruckus. Reportedly, after several attempts to apprehend the squirrely intruder, employees allegedly decided to seek the help of local animal control. When the call was received, Animal Control Officer Gary Phillips was unavailable so Town of Mountain City Police Officer Jody Putnam was dispatched.

According to an eyewitness at the scene of the incident, when Officer Putnam arrived, the squirrel was still inside the store and becoming increasingly hostile, presumably due to the stress of the incident. In order to apprehend the perpetrator, Officer Putnam made the decision to mace the squirrel. At the time Officer Putnam deployed the mace, Dollar General customers were allegedly still in the store but the smell and subsequent burn caused a mass evacuation. Unfortunately for Officer Putnam and the squirrel, the mace was not enough to apprehend the squirrel so Putnam reached for his next line of defense –his service weapon.

At this time, it is unknown how many shots Officer Putnam fired at the squirrel. One eyewitness said they didn’t hear a gunshot at all but rather heard the sudden “scream of the squirrel.” When the bystander reentered The Dollar Store, Officer Putnam had the squirrel pinned beneath his shoe and the animal was obviously dead. Another bystander said that Officer Putnam fired three shots. The Tomahawk was unable to reach Mountain City Police Chief Denver Church for a comment and an official report on this incident. Representatives from The Dollar Store also failed to respond after The Tomahawk made attempts to contact them for comment.

As a result of this incident, a unanimous decision was made by the City Council to terminate Officer Putnam’s employment. When reached for comment, Mountain City Mayor Lawrence Keeble said, “The decision the City Council made on this incident speaks for itself.”

It is not clear at this time whether or not any charges will be filed against Putnam. The Tomahawk will update our readers as the situation develops.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, (and Explosives!) has been fighting cigarette smuggling by smuggling cigarettes. Agents buy smokes in low-tax states like Virginia and sell them in high-tax states like New York. The sting operations are supposed to help build cases against smugglers, but ATF is cashing in too.

By law ATF may keep booty to cover "operational expenses." As if the line between law breakers and law enforcers wasn't blurry enough already, a recent inspector general report highlights a "serious lack of oversight" at the agency. Seems that confidential informants have been allowed pocket, not expenses, but profits amounting to millions of dollars. ATF agents have "misused" $162 million in sting operation profits and "lost track" of $420 million cigarettes. (Yes, this is the same ATF that lost more than a thousand weapons during the infamous Fast and Furious fiasco.) And if you're having trouble distinguishing the "good" guys from the "bad" guys, just remember: The "good" guys are the ones who get taxpayer-funded salaries and pensions.

But hey, don't federal agents have better things to do! Well, ATF's own most-wanted list features men suspected of crimes like murder, so yeah, agents could focus more time busting violent criminals. Then again, cigarette smuggling is much more lucrative.

Just under two minutes.

DQ Owner Holds Copper Thief at Gunpoint , Waits 3 Hours For Poli - Beckley, Bluefield & Lewisburg News, Weather, Sports

The owner of a Raleigh County Dairy Queen waits 3 hours for police to arrive after catching a copper thief in Glen Daniel.

911 operators said a state trooper was dispatched to the Dairy Queen on Route 3 at 6:30p.m. on Sunday.

According to Dairy Queen owner Christy Milam, it would be three more hours though before help arrived.

She said she first learned of the theft after receiving a call that the power was out at the store. When Milam and her husband arrived; however, they discovered at least two people attempting to steal copper.

At that point, Milam said she called police while her husband chased one of the suspects down the street.

When he finally had the suspect at gunpoint, she said her husband was able to detain the man for almost an hour, but released him after an hour without police backup.

"I would just hate to see someone with the brains blown out behind the counter waiting three hours for police to get there," said Milam.

59News reached out to state police for their side of the story on Sunday.

State Police confirmed Trooper Robinson with the Whitesville detachment was dispatched to the scene, but would not confirm the time of his arrival or whether an arrest was made.

More than 90 percent of those accused of a crime forgo their constitutional rights and plead guilty. The rarity of jury trials is because government officials have deliberately engineered the system to bypass the Constitutional safeguards provided by a jury trial.

“Democracy means that if the doorbell rings in the early hours, it is likely to be the milkman.”—Winston Churchill

It’s 3 a.m. You’ve been asleep for hours when suddenly you hear a loud “Crash! Bang! Boom!” Based on the yelling, shouting and mayhem, it sounds as if someone—or several someones—are breaking through your front door. With your heart racing and your stomach churning, all you can think about is keeping your family safe from the intruders who have invaded your home. You have mere seconds before the intruders make their way to your bedroom. Desperate to protect your loved ones, you scramble to lay hold of something—anything—that you might use in self-defense. It might be a flashlight, your son’s baseball bat, or that still unloaded gun you thought you’d never need. In a matter of seconds, the intruders are at your bedroom door. You brace for the confrontation, a shaky grip on your weapon. In the moments before you go down for the count, shot multiple times by the strangers who have invaded your home, you get a good look at your accosters. It’s the police.

Before I go any further, let me start by saying this: the problem is not that all police are bad. The problem, as I point out in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, is that increasing numbers of police officers are badly trained, illiterate when it comes to the Constitution, especially the Fourth Amendment, and, in some cases, willfully ignorant about the fact that they are supposed to be peacekeepers working for us, the taxpayer.

"Scared" Mooresville, NC Cop Shoots Pitbull 3 Times, Owner's Truck After Calling Different Dog | Animals-Pets

Yesterday was a terrible day for me. An officer from The Mooresville Police Department came to my house bent down on his knee and called my chihuahua to come to him out of my yard. Well she started walking to him…and so did my pit bull. The officers backup started to pull out her taser but before she could the other officer that was on his knee managed to stand up and fire his 9mm gun at my pit bull. Hitting her 3 times AND busting the back window out of my Suburban. One of the bullets went into Pinchs paw and shattered the bones. The others were deep muscle wounds in her other legs. Thank GOD we found a vet to help us with her. She had surgery last night and is going to be okay. But here’s my question…What would you do if an officer fired his gun at your house just to hit a dog who was not threatening him. He shot at her just because she was a pit bull. And he was scared. My chihuahua would’ve bit him before pinch would’ve. Even the vets said she was a wonderful dog and very gentle even with half her paw blew off. The MPDs claim person has already called about fixing my back window on my truck but I feel like they should pay the vet bill too!!! He called them out of their yard. Then shot my baby girl. Because he was scared. Keep in mind this was during the day in the middle of subdivision. I’m still shaken up by it all. I’m just thankful my baby girl is gonna be ok. But again I think MPD should pay for her vet bill. What do y’all think??

Unarmed man shot, wounded by Las Vegas police officer Monday night | Las Vegas Review-Journal

A Las Vegas police officer shot and wounded an unarmed man he mistakenly thought was a homicide suspect Monday night.

Police said the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. at a 7-Eleven near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

The officer told investigators he thought the man was the suspect in a pair of Sunday killings at the Pacific Harbors Sunrise apartments, near Sahara Avenue and Nellis.

The officer told the man to put his hands in the air, but he hid his right arm as he backed away from the officer, police said. The officer, whose name will be released after 48 hours, felt threatened and fired at the man.

“The individual was struck once in the abdomen and was transported to University Medical Center,” Deputy Chief Al Salinas told reporters at the scene Monday. “Subsequently, there was no weapon found.”

The man is expected to survive the shooting. He is not a suspect in Sunday’s homicide investigation.

Police refused to release the name of the man who was shot, citing the ongoing investigation.

The officer has been placed on routine, paid administrative leave pending an investigation into his actions.

Monday’s incident was the 11th Las Vegas police shooting this year, and the third involving an unarmed suspect.

Idaho Cops Kill Dog In Front of Two-Year-Old Boy | Alternet

Idaho police shot and killed a dog over the weekend in front of a two-year-old boy. While the cops from Boise, Idaho say they felt threatened by the dog, named Kita, the owners of the dog dispute those claims, according to a report by Idaho media outlet KTVB.

On Sunday, two officers were investigating a theft in the area where Kita and the Stropkai family lived. Gabrielle Stropkai said she let her dog out to go to the bathroom. The police say they were threatened by the dog because she was running towards them. “The dog came upon the officers quickly and they felt it was about to bite them. This is a very dog friendly community,” Deputy Chief Pete Ritter said in a statement to KTVB. “Dogs running loose are a safety risk, for people and for the dogs. This was a very unfortunate situation for everyone involved.”

The family and some other witnesses have a different story. “ She was walking by and went 'ruff ruff' just a couple of little ruffs and that's when she was walking by she didn't jump at him or anything,” said one witness, though other witnesses said the dog was “barking and snarling.”

Gabrielle Stropkai said the cops quickly decided to shoot Kita. “In about five seconds he pulled his weapon, asked whose dog it was, and shot her in the back of the head,” she told KTVB. This was all done in front of her two-year-old son named Hayden.
