I've been keeping an eye on what people pay over on mnet. Average savings off of MSRP are ~$1500 for sports, ~$3000 for clubs, and about $4000 for a maxed out GT RF. I paid 27300 before TTL for a base club. I don't have much experience buying new cars, so ymmv.

Good to know.

When I get ready to pull the trigger, they'll likely have to bring one in. What they have on the lots around here (only two Mazda dealers in the OKC area) are either:

GT (no GT-S package) or GT RF and auto. No desire for auto or RF.
Club with Brembo/Recaro package.

There are Sports around here too. They are all either white or black, and far less numerous than the upscale models. The price delta gives a lot of money to buy the bits I actually want.
FWIW, Beaker had an OSG in it when we turned it into an STR car. I don't have any feedback on it prior to that (before my time).

Yup, Beaker had an OSG for most of its life. OEM Auburn is a crude, cheap to manufacture and hot running diff. Better than nothing but the OEM vs OSG is like comparing a 2002 flip phone to the one on your hand.

Yet another reason to seek out a Sport.

I should also point out that on top of being a hot running diff design, the ND cut the fluid capacity in half compared to the NA/NB/NC. This to reduce weight. Baked diffs in hot weather HPDE are not out of the question.

This is why based on your testing, minimum of engine oil cooler, and only spring/fall track days unless I have the FM or LRR trans/diff coolers installed.

That's info given to us from LRR (Long Road Racing) back in 2015 after initial testing determined the cars would need diff and trans coolers. LRR makes the GCC (MX5 Global Cup Car).
Our experience confirmed.

Maybe redundant, but putting this here for quick reference. Looks to be complete ND shop manual:

So far the only issue I've had is that the headrest squeaks against the roll bar hoop cover like a ****. Anyone come up with a solution? It seems like maybe a little Teflon tape or similar might do the trick.

You mean the factory hoop or an aftermarket bar?
The loop part of Velcro tape works well for eliminating noises while being easy on the rubbing surface.

I found someone on Amazon that sells really short rolls of UHMW tape, so I think I'll give that a whirl. It's like $7, so why not.

Yeah, it's OEM seat vs OEM roll hoop cover. When it's cold outside and the car is cornering, the top of the seat headrest is rubbing against the top of the plastic roll bar hoop cover. It's startlingly loud- like lift the throttle because something is wrong loud. This will likely only affect tall people in cold climates, as you have to have the seat reclined back so it rubs, and it needs to be pretty cool weather.

Firsties!

Not prepping this one for track, so no roll bar. Plan is:
300/150 Xida ACE with touchscreen
OFT reflash
17x9 Charcoal 6UL
245/40/17 Conti ECS
Clear bra on front, and rockers
color correct/ clay the rest them ceramic coat
carbon duck tail
Vary style front lip

Asked the dealer to not attach the front plate, not wash it. Decided to leave the vinyl film on to deliver to the Aerowerkz that does our vinyl work.
The guys here the shop think the 17x9's and 245's will ride too rough. I think the ACE will take the edge off. The OEM Club suspension is a bit nervous as it is.
