There's like a 4 or 8 inch (can't remember) requirement for height of the edge of the slab above grade. that's a tall driveway.
Yes. If the garage floor is existing you'd want to just bring the driveway up to the slab. If the floor is already there and works, I would recommend just raising the grade of the driveway. Is the existing driveway in good shape? Most guys would probably rip out the driveway, regrade, and repave.

Also, just to note. For a 22'-24' garage, general rule of thumb is 2" pitch.

You should look into Quikrete garage floor paint/sealer. I just got about $150 in materials and I'll be doing my first test job with it this week. Its something we might start doing on the side. Floors come out like marble and are a breeze to clean up. Also something to show off to other motorheads.

Wow even a happy ending??? Holy ****!

I think after all the reading and my personal opinion, I'd say I agreee with Vash. I think the link levnubhin posted of the lady who was on assistance for her whole life but had things most hardworking people dont get to have, is basically the posterchild for Vash's def of "deadbeat". Who can really argue with that?

Some of the things y8's was saying also hold merit, needing to help the society. Its the HOW that needs to be adressed...fishing lessons vs fish, etc..

Aaaaaaaaaanyway, so Vash you do foundations and I basically have 1 foot in the door. And on top of everything you work with your family, and I will likely be doing the same. Would love to pick your brain in detail man, it's something that I've always been exposed to, but never got into. Be great to get some real opinions on the situation...

Anytime man, just shoot me a PM. What exactly is it you are interested in? Are you looking at getting into the foundation/concrete business? Or just looking for ideas/info on how to?

I'll be putting in a new curb cut and doing a whole driveway to the back yard where the garage is. it'll probably be 14 or 16 x 22 or 24. I want to keep the grass so I'm doing pervious driveway up to a parking pad and then the slab. I just dont want a steep parking pad--gotta work on the car on that.

I'm hoping to do something with the floor too. but first I gotta get the county to move my driveway apron.

I should've explained better,
My father's been in concrete/foundations for 30+yrs. I'm heavily considering working with him, but am coming from working in an office for 10yrs.
Seeing as you're in the field, workign with you father/bro, etc seems like a good source for collecting some info/opnion/advice.

I'll drop u a pm

Am I the only one who finds it mildly ironic that the atheist is the one talking about "moral responsibility" and "souls"? Not a knock on atheists, nor am I calling atheists people without morals. (Before you label me an anti-atheist-ite) I just find it entertaining.

the government is morally responsible. that's why they should do everything.

i should also quit my job at the largest non-profit company in the US.

ok i'll strike "soul" from my statement. but morality doesn't require religion. in fact one could argue that assigning absolute morality based on the concept of a supreme being is even more arbitrary.

truth is, morality is a democratic concept. what "most people" accept as moral IS moral.

Word. Morality absolutely does not require Religion and can exist just fine without it. I believe in many ways it can benefit from the separation. For example, birth control is a positive moral choice in some cases (avoiding teenage pregnancy, overpopulation) that was as we know counter-productively shunned by the Catholic church. Every sperm is sacred....

Dude, not trying to get you to convert to anything, and I agree that morality is pretty much gets defined as social norms. Without a doubt, most people have an innate sense of right/wrong regardless of religion/upbringing/etc... for the big stuff murder/stealing/etc... But, it's just in all the fine details that it gets messy. Like I said, I just found it mildly ironic/entertaining.
