Like everything else, Subaru will rarely if ever own up to such a huge issue so they basically ignore it except for rare extreme situations . But if you were to bring it in to have that done outside of warranty you're looking at well over two grand

MartinezA92 03-15-2017 08:14 PM

Anybody had their exhaust randomly start banging against shit or rattling/moving around? I don't know why it started, I'm thinking some poly donuts or something will fix it. I've never had this issue before.

18psi 03-15-2017 08:35 PM

make sure a hanger didn't break off or bend. next replace worn/stretched bushings

EO2K 03-17-2017 12:13 AM

Update on the 2010 Impreza wagon: co-worker found out there is a dealer quote for $2k to replace "the entire exhaust." That didn't make sense so I had him dig a little deeper. It turns out the chick who is selling it went to school in VT for a number of years and made no effort to deal with the new england road salt, so the exhaust is corroded as shit. I suspect it's got more corrosion hidden under the bumpers and such, and even knowing there is a $2k repair pending she still wants more than KBB "Excellent Condition" list price for that year/mileage. I told him that was crackpipe and to walk, or lowball the shit out of her but expect to put $2k-4k into it over the next couple years. He's not the kind of guy who can handle dealing with head gaskets or replacing an exhaust himself, and she's the girlfriend of a friend, so he's bummed, but he admits is probably not the right car for him right now.

Dude.
I wouldn't buy a rust state car even if it was a few hundred dollars. I wouldn't even work on a car like that for someone. It's a living nightmare.

turbofan 03-17-2017 12:16 PM

Makes absolutely zero sense to buy a car with any appreciable corrosion when you live in California. It's not even a rare car. Hard pass.

EO2K 03-17-2017 12:29 PM

Lol. Dude is 22. His entire experience with cars is a hand me down early 2000's Camry he got from his parents before he left for college. He's REALLY FUCKING EXCITED and I don't blame him, but he does not need to make this mistake right now. If the seller wanted significantly less than book for something like that I'd be tempted buy it, lift it, skid plate it, throw some grabber at2s at it and hoon the shit out of it in the dirt, for the lulz. But you have to remember my mechanical ability and tolerance for fuckery is far, far different than his. His world will collapse when he gets the first $2k repair bill to fix something.

Lmao, a buddy wanted me to change the clutch on his old turbo AWD Celica from a rust state(unbeknownst to me). Lifted the car up and I was like nah.

+1, not even once.

Anybody need a tactrix? I think I bought it from someone in this thread but I ended up not using it.

EO2K 03-22-2017 12:29 PM

YES! Dibs!

Provided I can make it work with my 04 WRX ;)

18psi 03-24-2017 11:38 AM

Pretty sure he got it from me, lol.

EO2K 03-24-2017 11:42 AM

Oh, I see how it is. lol.

Any chance you've got a reflash plug thing lying around for the 03-05 USDM WRX?

18psi 03-24-2017 11:47 AM

I do. You wanna borrow it?

EO2K 03-24-2017 11:53 AM

Probably yes, eventually. I did email Tactrix yesterday to find out what they want for one, but I've not heard anything back yet. I'll prod you sometime next week about it if they haven't replied. :bigtu:

18psi 03-24-2017 11:57 AM

cobb sells them for 5+ shipping
ebay has em for 12 shipped
tactrix probably about the same
you can even ghetto rig your own in like 5 minutes with 2 half inch long wires and 4 connectors.

I've actually rigged them up before once with 2 staples and once with a paper clip :D

Oh and PM me your mod list again, the final version (lol) so I can make you a new map

EO2K 03-24-2017 06:06 PM

Why spend 5 minutes ghetto rigging something when I can pay Tactrix $12 and they'll send me one? ;)

I'm not ready to start installing stuff yet because I'm still waiting on turbo oil drain hose, and I want to make sure we both have time in our schedules before I start bolting stuff up. Not that I don't trust your t00n, but I'm guessing its probably not a fabulous idea to drive on it for weeks and weeks and weeks until I find a hole in my schedule.

BTW, @MartinezA92, the package just showed up this afternoon and everything is in order. Thank you sir! I'll even send you some iTrader feedback :bigtu:

18psi 03-24-2017 09:29 PM

cool, so now you got a cable, so now you can haz base map to drive it over on. and be able to monitor/log and even e-tune your own car with in the future ;)

EO2K 03-27-2017 12:00 PM

Step one is to figure out how to get this thing to record a log. All kinds of crazy and out of date info on the internet with these things! I feel like I'm probably not looking in the right spot though ;)

18psi 03-27-2017 12:02 PM

What forums are you reading? please don't say Nabisco or clubwrx

EO2K 03-27-2017 12:23 PM

No, of course not. Maybe a little. Ok, yes.

Realizing it was all garbage, I found romraider.com and openecu.org and they appear to have decent info? Just started reading into them a bit more last night but I'm hopeful.
