I thought this stopped being an issue in the mid 2000's?

And re:exhaust ish... I don't want to deal with mine ever. This is the 2nd winter the car has spent in new england (PA car) and I haven't washed the underside at a car wash this year. I'll do it once we stop getting snow, but god damn it's going to suck if the exhaust needs anything. It's pretty much the only car of its age I've seen here without quarter panel rot, but I'm sure that's going to change soon enough... Thanks Mass.

18psi 03-27-2017 12:36 PM

Nah
Good 'ol Subaru never bothered to fix the issue or revise the gaskets, so all of them up to I want to say 2012-13? have this problem. until they switched to the new 2L. why own up to a flaw and spend money fixing it when you can just ignore it?

No, of course not. Maybe a little. Ok, yes.

Realizing it was all garbage, I found romraider.com and openecu.org and they appear to have decent info? Just started reading into them a bit more last night but I'm hopeful.

lulz
yes those are much better for that type of info.

Really? They didn't even revise the head gaskets? So what is the solution on a later EJ25?

Also:

Apparently Tactrix REALLY wanted to make sure I had stickers. Lol.

I haven't even plugged this thing in yet and I see a locking clip. I'm tempted to remove it. Someone tell me not to do it.

18psi 03-29-2017 03:01 PM

don't do it because that's stupid

Ok, let me rephrase: If one were to own a Subaru equipped with an EJ25 that falls within that age range that needed head gaskets replaced, what would be the best practice to ensure it would not be a future issue? :giggle:

Cylinder Head Gaskets Revised Non Turbo SOHC (MLS) Subaru 11044AA633 MLS | Buy Online from LIC Motorsports

What's really sad and scary is that Subaru themselves never even bothered to revise/update them, so even if you bought a set from them right now, AFAIK it would still be the fail prone set they sold back then.

The "super coolant" and "conditioner" Subaru sells does help, but that's such a pathetic Band-Aid approach that I can't help but laugh.

That's badass, thank you for the link :bigtu:

Man too funny I was just watching that video yesterday too. I need some motivation to finally get the vf39 on that's been sitting in a box for 6 damn years now lol. Once I finish the NC 2.5 swap I'm working on now maybe it will finally be time to tackle some FXT mods.

I need some help!

2005 Outback XT Limited, 5EAT, stage 2. The inlet hose that goes to the turbo has 2 holes in it where it connects near the turbo. I need a part number for that hose so I can buy a new one. Don't want a aftermarket one, stock replacement is fine. Funny I find aftermarket ones, but can't find the stock one!

Also, on the passenger side valve cover there are two hoses that connect to it, both of them are busted where they are supposed to hook to the valve cover. The rear hose is this one: EMISSION CONTROL (PCV).. Fits: 2005 Subaru Outback XT Limited 2.5L TURBO 5AT | Subaru Parts Online

What is the P/N for the front hose? Where should I buy them from? I guess worst case I'll go to dealer on monday and try to figure out the part numbers there, and pay whatever they want for the parts. Local dealer is pricey so I'm fine buying online if it's cheaper.

I found all this because the idle and hesitation has been getting worse and I figured there was a vacuum leak or something. Sure enough, there is!

18psi 04-30-2017 03:30 AM

why in the world wouldn't you want an aftermarket one?

Just tuned a 2009 OBXT today too lol

Lexzar 04-30-2017 04:23 AM

Been wanting a subaru. Afraid I will start a chain reaction of owning them for the rest of my life.

Can confirm. Bought a cheap wagon for a DD, fast forward 4 years and I now have two Subarus.

The wagon has a long eventful story/history but it made it on the MightyCarMods facebook page way back in 2014, so I guess that makes it all worth it haha. Pics for proof

I don't know much about them, but it appears to be a performance upgrade. I just want to repair the car. The stock hose has 2 holes in it where it clamps to the turbo, I want to fix that. Not looking to make it faster, I got 2 other faster cars already, this one just needs to run/drive perfect and a mis/hesitation off idle was super annoying. I actually did an oil change first, then decide to start looking for a loose vacuum hose or something and ended up tearing it apart and finding these 3 hoses damaged.

I don't think I'd buy another myself. Or if I did, I'd buy it new and leave it stock. The amount of "maintenance" it requires has made me sad, owned it 6 years so far. In too deep to sell it now.

The aftermarket ones dont break as easily as the stock ones.

I wouldnt worry. Subaru ownership either sucks you in like miatas or you realize owning one is a mistake you only make once.

18psi 04-30-2017 05:46 PM

The silicone ones, like the perrin, in my opinion are the way to go because it's super thick 5layer silicone and won't fall apart like the stocker in the next few years.

What do you have and what did you do to it?

Do itttt. They're pretty solid DD's. I haven't been wow'ed by their newer wrx series cars. They're nice, but that's about it. If you are planning on getting a wrx and modifying it... read lots and overbuild everything.

It's an RS swap. Don't believe the actual RS was offered in wagon form in 1998.

Yep.

I can't wait to get rid of the BRZ. Build quality is pretty bad for a car that had an MSRP approaching $30k. Unfortunately the value of the twins has plummeted hard.
