Made a nice frittata earlier. Quite tasty. Onion, mushroom, spinach, tomatoes, ham, and of course the eggs.

 

Wife decided she wanted ramen with kimchi and an egg on it.

I complied!




Ramen
1 cup chicken broth
1 tbsp-ish soy sauce
1 squirt fish sauce
1 squirt sriracha
big pinch of salt
farmers market kimchi (yum+spicy)
spring onions
poached egg
dash of salt, pepper, and more sriracha for garnish

I have reservations for the French Laundry in June.

It typically ranks #1 on many lists of best places in US, and one of the only few in the US on world rankings.

 

We ate at Del Posto for lunch last year in NYC, it was amazing.

I think with my fancy Rye and all our stuff we dropped $400 on lunch for 2 people.

It was well worth it.

 

We almost made reservations for Jose Andres' MINIBAR but then we heard the pricing. Maybe next lottery ticket.

 

What is the pricing like? Washington D.C. and Seattle are the next two cities I think we plan on visiting.

The two of us literally spent like $2500 on alcohol/food in a 7 day period in NYC.

 

we also have reservations at Tom Colicchio's place, Wolfgang Puck's, Michael Cierello... a few more I cant remember.



You could do Jaleo instead! I didn't have kids so I could eat better...

 

I have been pushing and trying to eat at much nicer places when ever I get the chance (not many to choose from in Southern WV where people freak out about a dinner at Outback). I thought our $180 for 2 people was bad at Jerry West Steakhouse the The Greenbrier.

 

nothing is worse than dropping cash at a restaurant and not leaving satisfied.

 

I wanna say $250 per person for the tasting menu.

There are other delicious and cheaper options here.

 

I was gonna say, hit up the Greenbrier. Dad used to work there and it was like a second home. It's not as good as it was 10 years ago when they were a 5 star hotel but still bangin. I'd also try The Gristmill near Hot Springs, VA and The Homestead as well if you're ever in that area.

I remember the feels of having nothing around when my family lived in Lewisburg. Speaking of which, I've heard it has grown a good bit and gotten pretty hip. I'd think their dining has improved similarly since good food and alcohol usually correlate with 'hipness'.

 

Lewisburg has become a hipster town. I guess not so much hipster as hippies with money. I worked there for years and it has its own culture separate from the rest of the area. Food and Friends is still the hottest game in town and while the other restaurants are good, its not worth the hr drive. Especially now that I have a kid. You can get the good food but the ambiance is lacking. You still have the waitress that walks up and says "What can I get ya huuuuuuuuney"

I hear it's declined quite a bit over the years... enough to make me remove it from my list of "must visit" places.

Of course, I can't think of anywhere to recommend in it's place... my quaint little rustic Italian place in Sonoma has gone to **** in the last decade.

Food, service, everything. Makes me wonder if the owners finally sold the place, since everyone now dials it in.

I'm in Sonoma county myself. If you need some recommendations for great food and reasonable prices... let me know?
