I swear I find my best stuff by mistake.

I rescued some old Mitchell books from our shop circa early 70's - mid 80's. I tossed all the domestic ones, as I don't plan on working on any of those things, and the VERY dusty import books had already filled my trunk. I have 5 or so, covering everything from HVAC repair to engine rebuilds. I though initially about selling them on ebay, but now I really want to hang onto them. Sort of an "own your heritage" idea.

I try not to get attached to anything too much, otherwise it defeats the purpose. Mostly all the ones I have are Chevy, Pontiac and Buick.

The only thing I've come across lately that I'm thinking of keeping are a few magic lantern slides from the 1920's with some cool advertising content on them.

meh, I find value in keeping "brick and mortar" items. I collecting things like old car reference books. When I was helping clean out an older shop, I rescued an old box of random carb bits, and a big box of old hose clamps. I save every nut and bolt I replace in cars, never know when you'll need it for something.

But as my parents say, I probably should have been born in the 50's, as I'm not too interested in the BS of today and my generation.

Very cool, Vash. Hopefully, whoever you sell them to scans or otherwise has them put up on line for viewing like the sites with the vintage car advertisements.

I don't know what people do with them man, but they pay some serious cash for certain ones. Depending on subject matter and age of course.

A couple weeks ago I sold a total of 25 slides for just under $1000! I couldn't believe it! Not to mention I started them all at .99 with no reserve! lol

Slides are my new number one item. **** big bulky ****. **** used car parts. Pretty much **** anything that doesn't take 10 mins to pack. I used to make boxes for certain **** I sold and sometimes it would take hours just to MAKE the box. Then I'd still have to pack it!

Now that I'm responsible for the concrete business, I've had less time to work on eBay. I still do and make extra cash every week (always enough to at least pay for gas/food), but those slides were a great find for me. Mostly because I still have hundreds more to sort through.

any specific subject matter that sells? My dad has a whole mess of old slides from Watkins Glen during the F1 days... I believe one has a decapitated driver who's F1 car went under a chain link fence where it cleany served it from his body.

I don't know how this works, but I'm almost certain I just heard vash get a massive erection.

It really depends. I could tell you what sells but then I'd be giving up my secret. I buy ANY slides I come across. Even if it's of family picnics. I prefer Kodachrome and certain subject matter, but I'll buy most anything.

I have probably close to 2000 vintage slides (that I know of) of the Appalachian trail. All marked and sorted by the mile. The house I've been clearing out has boxes upon boxes of the ****. I have no idea if its worth anything to anyone, but I'll sell it.

Brain, would your dad sell them? Let me know and I'll make him an offer.

Did I ever mention I have my hands on a basement FULL of 90's era baseball/football/hockey/basketball/etc cards? All brand new and still on the pallets they came on. In the next week or so I'll have pictures to share.

I have Topps box sets of baseball cards from 88-93 IIRC. I'd get a whopping $10 from them all if I Joeybayit.

I'm not sure he'd sell them, my parents are horders and they always buy slide scanners with the intentions of digitializing them and never do.

Yep, my Dad and Uncle witnessed this and took lots of pics. Pretty sure my Uncle was shooting on Kodachrome.

lol

I don't live vicariously through sports so I have no clue what the cards are worth. We're doing the foundation for the guy's new house and while bs'ing with him he mentioned that I should take a stab at selling them. I'm talking packs, in boxes, in cases, stacked and shrink wrapped. Even at a low dollar amount its a massive quantity.

Well if he's ever looking to sell them during a tag sale, hit me up first!
