I know the drawbacks, and I know you've had your share of issues. Talked to you a couple of months ago on Instagram.
The car has 19,000 miles and is probably the best example of an MSM I've seen. I'll probably do a reflash at some point this year. The car has some bolt ons and 305cc injectors, stock wheels and some Konig Rewinds, and a Hard Dog M2. Either way, I'll deal with the IHI for a couple of years, and then see what happens. I just want to get more involved with autocrossing and hopefully start doing some track days with instruction.

Good to hear! I was pretty hell bent on running a MS instead of reflashing, but I'm gonna save ECU upgrades for down the road. Won't be in the budget for a while and I'm more concerned with putting that $1000 into some 15x9's and RS3's. I know everyone is on the Rival bandwagon, but the RS3's stick great and will last three times as long, which being 18 with a car payment, long lasting = more gaytime for me.
That Haltech looks nice, might be worth looking into. If I go MS, I'll be having the tuning done locally by a shop called Powerfab. Did my friends '02 sport and that was the smoothest 308whp I've driven.

By all accounts so far, the Rivals should actually last longer than the RS3s.

However, that doesn't make the RS3 a bad tire. Pick what you like.

I'll gladly and happily recommend Haltech. BUT, and this is a big BUT, it probably doesn't represent the best value on the market. That throne is definitely taken by Megasquirt. Support on this board is geared more towards Megasquirt. Basically, if you're going to be doing it yourself and have the time/ambition to deal with issues yourself, Megasquirt makes sense and there's not a HUGE point to going to anything other than Megasquirt.

I'm still on the fence between MS3x or MS3 Pro or another Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 on my 93 Miata.

Or hell, maybe i'll get buck wild and go with Syvecs and see what that noise is all about.

I've driven on the Hankooks and BFGs, and actually like the Rivals a bit more. But, after talking about it with my friend Jeff, he told me this:
RS3's - 17,000 street miles, 200 autox runs
Rivals - 5,000 street miles, 70 autox runs
I'm going with the Hankooks, haha!
All I ever see is MS and Hydra, it'd be nice to see people try some other options and get back to the community, so be out guineau pig!

Is your friend Jeff the one with the Honda that we were all making fun off on CR for being the only person on the planet to kill a set of Rivals that fast?

Because there's a very large autocrossing community that would like to disagree with those numbers.

I can't even kill a set of R888s or RA1s that fast.

Jeff Goji. Posts a lot on M.net (although not your typical m.netter)
Runs BSP in his MSM on FCM 3040's, 800f/500r

Oh that Jeff.

Weird that he's having wear problems on the Rivals. I'll say that that's not typical in the slightest, but either way, you're getting good tires, so carry on.

Really i'm just jealous of you guys because neither tire is available in a size that i'm interested in.

I need a 245/45-16 ST-class tire for Swank Force One. Daily driver.

BUT, i'm spoiled and refuse to run shitty tires, and i'm not real flexible on that size, which makes it hard. (Also need good tires because of the one time a year i race it.)

So basically, i can run the RA1.

The Miatas and Escort are easy. The MX6, i'm running into the same problem i had with my old Celica.

16's need more options. I almost wanted to run 16's on the MSM, but decided against it due to the limited options in tires.
Off topic: Emmy Rossum is so hawwwwwt

If there was a 245/40-16 street tire, i'd run 16s on the MSM.

Agreed on Rossum. I watch "Shameless" so i can see her udders.

I just really wanted to run some Watanabe's, but too expensive and the sizes I liked would kinda destroy any performance aspect. a 16x9 -13 is kinda dumb.

The MTX-L does not have very good water tight integrity.

This sounds like the sort of observation which has a story behind it.
