But you can make functional intake manifolds outta that stuff.

God.. read the comments on that video!

I wish we could force the general public to become educated on firearms and firearm laws...

I watched about 15 of those "graphic -gets shot" videos on Military.com and none of them showed anything. Lots of camera shaking and yelling... then right at the exact moment the event happens, for some reason the camera is completely out of focus or pointed at the floor. Kinda reminds me of Swamp People... "CHOOT'EM ELIZABETH".

GeneSplicer 12-05-2012 11:46 AM

Since conception, the videos on Military have gotten light on the carnage - a couple that stick in memory was when a patrol was attacked in Bagdad and the HMMV took off after the attacking car in a street chase (not wise to get lost or into an ambush) and hadji ditching the car and you see the passenger trying to run away but was mowed down about 30ft away from the car.
found it: LINK

Another was when Hadji was going to launch an RPG from the middle of the street, when you see him get tapped a couple times, falls to one knee, then blasted again as a tracer enters upper torso then out base of neck - plop on the ground - was being filmed by another Hadji.
found it too - keep hitting replay - I'm disturbed: LINK

Anybody in the market for an accurate and almost ready to 'race' AR-15? Only change I'd make is work the trigger or drop-in trigger (that said, trigger is great... just not race gun) and a compensator...

18" Rifle length gas Nordic Match grade Wylde chamber 1:8 twist barrel
Spikes Tactical Zombie Enhanced lower/upper
Firebird Gas block
Magpul MOE stock
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul Ambi Sling plate
Magpul MBUS Sights (optional as I'd like to keep them)
Magpul B.A.D. lever
YHM Rifle length hand guard
YHM Aggressive flash supressor
Bravo Company Bolt carrier group (upgradeable to JP LMOS for more racey setup)
DPMS (I Believe) Charging handle

yellowihss 12-06-2012 08:43 PM

Price?
Pics?
Willing to separate upper and lower?

It's had somewhere between 100-200 rounds through it of only brass cased Federal ammo. Shoots great, I built it because I had a couple parts around... but I don't need another AR and i'll feel less guilty when I find my next car project (looking at a Fiat 128 atm :p )

Possibly separate... but ideally just complete rifle.

Complete package ... 1k bottom dollar... That would be without MBUS and without swapping in the JP LMOS.

So, a week ago, I ask my wife if she would be willing/interested/not-against taking a firearms safety course. She surprised me by saying "it sounds like I probably should"... and with that...

She mentioned later in the day to a girlfriend who promptly volunteered that she had 2 guns of her own but never actually had any formal training, and wanted in on the class. Then I mentioned it to one of my very good work buddies who shoots, and he said "Sign my wife up for it too, I don't care if she doesn't want to go, the fact that your wife is going will get her foot in the door." In the meantime, my wife mentions it to a few other girlfriends, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was very interested.

I had already visited the local military range and met the instructor, so I called him up and told him I had enough bodies to fill an NRA Basic Pistol Course (ladies only) and he gave me some dates in January... 6 women so far "in", and he said he'd take 2 more, which I've already put out a feeler to 2 more buddies who I know need some help getting their ladies onboard with the whole "gun thing".

I'd love to convince my girl to go to such a class. She really enjoys shooting my target rifle, and likes shotguns too - even taken a couple deer with a bow, no shit - but she's scared sh!tless of handguns because "they're meant to kill people"

When I picked up my new 9mm, she said "i don't want to see it, i don't want to know where your hiding place is, and I don't want you to tell me about it"

Split, et.al Illinoisian's, congrats on MOORE v. Madigan!!! You guys will probably get concealed carry in the next major legislative session,

From the ruling:

The Second Amendment states in its entirety that “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (emphasis added). The right to “bear” as distinct from the right to “keep” arms is unlikely to refer to the home. To speak of “bearing” arms within one’s home would at all times have been an awkward usage. A right to bear arms thus implies a right to carry a loaded gun outside the home.

And one doesn’t have to be a historian to realize that a right to keep and bear arms for personal self-defense in the eighteenth century could not rationally have been limited to the home. Suppose one lived in what was then the wild west—the Ohio Valley for example (for until the Louisiana Purchase the Mississippi River was the western boundary of the United States),
where there were hostile Indians. One would need from time to time to leave one’s home to obtain supplies from the nearest trading post, and en route one would be as much (probably more) at risk if unarmed as one would be in one’s home unarmed.
Big win for gun-rights groups: Federal appeals court tosses state ban on carrying concealed weapons - Sun-Times Politics

Unfortunately your FOID bullshit is still around, but hopefully the fight against that gets picked up and gets shot down as unconstitutional like it has in 40 other states.

Friend just let me know. It is somewhat hilarious because on Sunday I took the class for UT/FL/AZ... at least if there is any lack of reciprocity I should have it covered as best as possible with those 3.

Sending in paperwork shortly, debating if I'll be wanting to jump in and carry right away though or not. I just need to invest in a nice holster, thinking a crossbred supertuck for the Shield.

Nice!

Recommend the Crossbreed holsters highly. Another option if you're a cheap bastard like me:

IWB Kydex Leather Hybrid Holster Kel Tec PF9 | eBay

Went with the Black dye and grand total was $36.98 shipped to my door. I have worn that holster almost every day since it arrived. Most of the time it's worn with jeans and in a fairly casual dress, however since I got a new job and dress up now I've actually been tucking my button down shirts in and it really does conceal my little pistola quite well!

I'm very satisfied with it. In other news I finally got rid of that POS adjustable "m4" Stock and bought a rifle length fixed stock. Sold what I had for $50 and priced out a DPMS replacement which included the A2 stock, extension tube, buffer and spring for $55 shipped.. I've never been a huge fan of that stock either so I went exploring for more options. Spent $99 shipped for a Magpul Fixed Rifle length "MOE" stock with supporting DPMS hardware which arrived and was promptly installed yesterday.

I'm not all Googly over Magpul's products, but my first impression of this stock is pretty good. It was very heavy and felt pretty solid which balanced my DPMS rifle out a little better since it was very front heavy. Haven't test fired it yet.

Crossbreed was a few weeks back ordered when I wanted an IWB holster. Went with http://theisholsters.com/ instead, took around a week from order to delivery.

Hmm. Didn't really need another gun, but a S&W 2214 popped up locally today and I don't think I can pass it up. Probably put my S&W 422 up for sale immediately.

State House passes bill allowing concealed weapons in schools, stadiums, churches.

Link

Changes to the concealed weapons law passed the state House on Thursday evening, allowing highly trained gun owners to carry their concealed weapons in formerly verboten places, such as schools, day care centers, stadiums and churches.

Schools, however, and privately owned facilities could opt out of the new law if they don't want people carrying guns in their buildings.

The gun bill also requires the Michigan State Police, rather than local law enforcement, to maintain gun permitting records. Police said it was crucial to have at least one agency hold on to records, citing the I-96 shooter case last month, which was solved in part, by going back through gun records.

State Rep. Joel Johnson, R-Clare, called the bill a “pro-public safety bill because it allowed gun owners to be an “asset” to public safety in volatile situations.

But opponents, including state Rep. Joan Bauer, D-Lansing, said the bill went too far.

“There are just some areas where guns should not be allowed,” she said.

The bill still needs to go back to the state Senate for concurrence.

Thank you state of Michigan.

Mississippi has a similar law they call "Advanced Carry" I think... does very much the same thing.

Of course if you ask Bob Costas, we should melt all the guns down because they make it easier for people to kill one another. I guess that the fact that murder and violent crime rates always skyrocket and never come down after a country outlaws civilian firearms ownership is just a coincidence.

Rep. Johnsons words are being echo'd in a lot of places in the media and increasingly by law enforcement. Every police officer I know of is very much in favor of civilian concealed carry... it's the "Chief of Police" who quite often is a stooge of the mayor and by default a politician who usually cries about the evils of Legally Armed Citizens.

I came across this article:Why more people didn't die in Clackamas mall shooting - Yahoo! News
Clackamas mall has a posted "No Weapons, Legal or Illegal" for their property, which was a great deterrent for this dude who stole an AR, put on a hockey mask, and killed some people. After the huge attention in the media about whether a concealed carry permit holder could have stopped that asshole in the Aurora Theater Shooting, the benefits of having Legally Armed Citizens "in our midst" is getting a lot of attention.

Illinois is one of the last great holdouts, proof that the anti-gunners are losing in a major way, even in the aftermath of a couple big tragedies. I'm even seeing a clear media shift on some channels towards a more balanced view of firearms ownership... some even positive.

The next big thing that's gonna make waves (one way or another) is the Zimmerman/Martin case.
