Why not get it in .40?

pusha 11-02-2011 02:18 AM

he can't handle it, fucking pussy

elesjuan 11-02-2011 02:24 AM

My full power 9mm loads only take 4gr of powder where a .40 would be 6gr plus I have over 2000 pieces of 9mm brass and the lead mold for some 114gr hardcast. I'm just interested in a range plinker and something to keep in the car. Plus If 33 rounds of 9mm isn't going to take care of it then its the wrong platform for the task..

pusha 11-02-2011 02:30 AM

go to sleep neckbeard

pusha 11-02-2011 02:41 AM

hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, dude has a $7 belt

hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha

jesus christ, people like this are the problem

gearhead_318 11-02-2011 03:23 AM

Why doesn't he just get a flashlight and bayonet attachment for his gun? I'd hate having that much shit in my pockets.

I was kidding, but then I google'd.

I've found some inspiration:

In about 6 months I'll be getting out of bootcamp, and I'll want to buy an AR when I get home. From the research I've done I (think) I want a 16"-18" barrel, chrome lined chamber and bore, an adjustable stock, handle sights, and I want to spend under a grand. Nothing "tactical", no optics, no full auto. It will be used as a recreational gun and maybe one day for home defense, but that's a long way off. It will need to be able to withstand not being used for months at a time if I'm not around (I know cleaning and preparation is probably key here). Any ideas? Any brands I should go after or avoid? Thanks.

EDIT: Possibly something like this:

EDIT EDIT: What about building your own AR? I wouldn't have a lot of time to get it done so I'm not sure it would even be an option but I thought I'd see what y'all think.

that appears to be a late-80s Colt AR-15

************************************************** ***

if you were going to buy one new, I would go with a Colt LE6920 or a Colt LE6940. the difference being the proprietary monolithic rail system on the upper with flip-up irons. you'll likely see SP6920s and SP6940s around and they're the same thing as their respective LE equivalents save for the markings -- Colt Defense and Colt MFG (or something), respectively. they'll run you something like $1000 (SP6920), $1200 (SP6940), $1200 (LE6920) and $1400 (SP6920). you have to decide if the extra $200 is worth the rollmark or not.

this is a LE6940 that I picked up when they first came out (2009, I believe):

Attachment 186620

^that's a LE6920 sitting on the box in the lower left

I haven't shot it yet and I likely never will as my shitmachine is still going strong but I'm a huge Colt whore so I just had to have it.

the LE6920/40 is a great rifle and I don't think you can go wrong with either

THAT BEING SAID:

is it worth saving $250 or so by buying a non-Colt AR?

there will be a few people who will jump in this thread and talk about different brands but let's kick the ballistics. I've fired exclusively Colt for nearly 20 years and I've only ever experienced a half dozen issues, all of which could easily be attributed to shitty ammunition with the most recent being a fte (of TULA, OMGZ) in my DRY and DIRTY Lightweight Sporter.

some people like the midlength gas system because the extra 2" is supposed to keep your rifle alive longer or somesuch shit (LOL), but I highly doubt anyone can scientifically prove a quantifiable advantage of a midlength over carbine setup; if you're really worried, run a heavier buffer

whatever you do, there's a few things you're going to want...

be sure whatever you buy has a 1/7 twist barrel (6920s and 6940s do as do all other colts, I believe), I cannot stress the importance of this enough. anything else and you won't be able to stroke your cock with excitement as you accurately shoot 70+ grain ammunition

do not worry about m4 feed ramps or any of that shit, I haven't had a problem with any of my older Colts feeding ball, jhp, etc. they're nice and most rifles nowadays have them so...

do not be a retard and buy a bunch of MOE shit before you even shoot your rifle and don't worry about "mil-spec" stuff because it's usually not

DO NOT BUY SOME BULLSHIT LIKE THIS:

Attachment 186621

I've been meaning to get rid of that trash since I bought it, I wouldn't use it for anything more than fixing a wobbly table

I'd pay the extra $200 for the Colt and call it a day.

gearhead_318 11-03-2011 03:04 AM

Thanks Pusha. I'll defiantly like the idea of having a Colt, knowing it's a good reliable weapon and all. Gonna be doing a lot of research, but I'll stick with the 1/7 like you said.
Do you not like the second AR because it's a Smith & Wesson or because it lacks the handle sights? I'm guessing it's the former.

I don't like it because it's a piece of shit and it's a piece of shit because when I first disassembled it, I was disappointed with the quality of the internals. Many people own them and like them and that's fine but I don't like mine.

I was about to order the necessary parts to build myself a 16" bbl chrome AR upper when I received the new Midwayusa catalog. They've got the DPMS Uppers on sale once again, found a DPMS Oracle 16 pencil barrel for $377...

Pusha won't like it cause its not a Colt and I'm okay with that. I love my Colt, but I love my DPMS just as much.

I'm hoping I love my DPMS as alot of people seem to. I'm still stoked about the deal (or think its a deal) I got.

I think you will.

Was planning on building a DPMS lower for my 20" bull barrel DPMS upper and using the PC15 lower for a carbine.. but think I've changed my mind on that plan. Want to see if I can build a sub-5 pound all composite AR. Put together a list of the lightest shit I can find so we'll see what happens..

I'd like to build my own gun, but I'm only guaranteed 10 days of leave after boot camp, so I don't think I'd have the time.
