Not that the killer was a neglected unloved quiet psycho that snapped from the start and would have killed his mother with nearly everything or anything...

...I really hate those hypocrites.

They think its real easy to buy a gun as is, but the truth is they never ever took the time to try and buy one and get turned down by the shop owner that could read them like a book.

MD323 12-14-2012 08:14 PM

I grew up in baltimore city, it was easier to buy a street gun at 15 (i did not but knew someone who did..)then it was to buy a rifle and ammo at 18...

if thats not a case for gun laws not working then im a giant rabbit selling cereal.

xturner 12-14-2012 08:44 PM

Connecticut's not an easy state to buy a gun. There's a waiting period and background check even for long guns, and even if you have a handgun permit.

The shooter's mother(victim) bought and registered the guns he used, all perfectly legal.

How do you stop that? A dedicated psycho killer will always fund a way. Maybe we need better crazy-person-control laws.

samnavy 12-14-2012 09:40 PM

I've said this before several times in this thread but will say it again...
The Brady Campaign and the half-dozen or so other "public safety" lobbies or whatever they brand themselves has only one goal... the complete elimination of all firearms in the hands of civilians in the US. They want a total ban on sales and gov't enforced confiscation. Quite a few of the leaders of Brady have said so quietly in various forums they knew the mainstream would not pick up, but they have said it.

If any of you who frequent this thread have the ability in your present location to get a CCW, then you should do it, and you should have a firearm on your person 24/7. The only time I don't carry is when I'm in uniform going directly to or from the base... otherwise, I'm armed.

I wake up in the morning and my G19 goes from my night-table to my right hip. I carry everywhere I'm legally able to do so and you should too.

Well... SuperColbri's won't go through a Nokia cell phone's LCD screen from 20 feet away.. A full power .22lr will however drive through the supercolbri's slug, the phone, and a 1" piece of pine from 20 feet away..

First off thank you Samnavy for what you do for this country. Its people like you that make this place a better world.

Bought a brand new SS bull barrel Ruger 22 rim fire pistol today. Took over thirty minutes of paperwork and drivers license ect and I still got to do more paperwork. Got to prove my address some more so they know where to confiscate my gun when Obama gets his way. What ever happened to my constitutional rights of there shall be no laws:crx:. Now i gotta wait ten days. So the day after Christmas is going to be good for me.

Excited about the quality of the gun though.

samnavy 12-16-2012 03:13 PM

Thanks man, I do my part as often as I can.

There's a small yet certain list of guns that every enthusiast should own at some point, not merely a "type" of gun, but a specific one.

A Ruger Mark series is near the top of the list, or 22/45 if you've got the dough. There aren't many guns that are as pleasing to just plink away with.

Excellent choice on the MK Series Ruger! I'm in no way a gun expert but do strongly believe a MK series .22lr is the best first hand gun for plinking or just starting out. Cheapest thing you can shoot, comfortable, easy to operate, and just plain fun. Unbelievable aftermarket of upgrades and fairly economical!

If I had it to do over again, would've spent a little more money and gotten the next model up with threaded barrel and interchangeable grips. My barrel isn't threaded and you can't upgrade or replace the hand guards, sadly. Considering either selling it or just buying the Tactical Solutions Pac-Lite upper and selling my current upper.

My comments about the 22/45 Mark III (mine):
  • Factory sights are very hard (for me) to use indoors. Added some white paint to the front and rear blades, solved the problem 100% for $0 invested. Other solution is fiberoptics or a red-dot.
  • Factory trigger break isn't fantastic, has stupid magazine disconnect which prevents magazines from dropping free. Solution (Have not yet done so) is to buy the Volquartsen trigger kit.
  • Only 10 round magazines available.. BUY MORE! :brain:

Seriously GREAT gun, until you pull the "Pin on your Ruger Hand Grenade.." Field Stripping is a MOTHER FUCKER on a brand new piece. My shooting friend has a 20 year old MKII that just falls apart when you pull the pin, then goes back together like butter. NOT the case with my MK3.

Mine does not come apart or go back together ANYWHERE near that easy.

Splitime 12-16-2012 08:06 PM

I also found I disliked the new gimmics on the MKIII, I sold one I had briefly.

I have a MKII 10" with a red dot on it and a non-threaded Tactical Solutions barrel for it... so light its amazing.

Have a few minutes and got brave. Pulled the pin on my hand grenade and took it apart. The main spring pin (problem) was marred up very badly because the tolerances are too tight on this thing, so I took some 250/400/500/1000 grit sand paper and polished that sucker up to a near shine.

Main spring pin fairly easily slides into the receiver now, only slightly difficult to get closed. Found if you point the muzzle down and press the bolt into the receiver the pin slips in fairly easily but do NOT insert the hook to "close" the main spring with the muzzle down. Doing so will cause the main spring housing to NOT come back out once the hammer has been cocked because the hammer strut is down instead of up. After the main spring pin is fully seated, point the muzzle up and fold the main spring lever into the grip and seat it.

Found a GREAT troubleshooting site for MK series pistols!

You beat me to that site, its got every scenario covered. Once you've done a Ruger 1 or 2 times its easy as pie.

The annoying thing about the speed strip kit is the need for an allen key. (at least thats what I remember)

Just snagged this S&W 2214 (bottom), pictured here with my S&W 422. Already bought a suppressor adapter, guess I need to buy a suppressor now, right?

Thinking I might sell the 422. The 2214 is better as a suppressor host, anyway, and I don't really need both .22's.

"Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, the author of an assault-weapons ban that lapsed in 2004, said she would introduce new legislation this week."

I'm thinking about ordering a Core15 lower. Anyone suggest otherwise?

I also may give my M&P9 Shield to the GF today and get a G26.

samnavy 12-17-2012 10:10 AM

She introduces "new" legislation every year like clockwork, and every time there's an event of any note. It never gets out of committee. The firearms industry in California, even as fucked up as their laws are, is healthy and strong.

People who are a study of firearms law and history are also usually studies of criminal behavior and motivations, and the argument is always the same... the AWB '94-'04 made zero difference in gun crime statistics. "Assault weapons" account for less than 1% of all guns crimes, and less than 1/10th of a % of violent crimes. Banning their sales does nothing except hurt the economy. It's an obvious political move to pander to a specific gullable and predictable demographic base and makes it quite obvious that those politicians have no interest in preventing crime, only in getting re-elected by "doing something".
