I'd like to build my own gun, but I'm only guaranteed 10 days of leave after boot camp, so I don't think I'd have the time.
http://www.recguns.com/Pictures/Images/Xm15Diagram.gif I know it seems like a LOT of parts, but they're not nearly as overwhelming once you get started. http://webpages.charter.net/dpresco/...plodedwiew.gif I Believe an AK has fewer parts, but requires more specialty tools. The barrel of an AR is fitted and attached with a nut where the AK barrel is physically pressed into the front trunion and to build a stripped receiver on an AK requires presses for rivets also. We've built 4 specialty tools to assemble an AK which consists of a bending brake, rivet tool, barrel press, and trigger guard rivet press. Tools required for an AR assembly include a couple small punches, punchblock, and an Armourer tool.. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/v/vsp...20Wrench-2.jpg There are other tools that make things easier, like to install handguards, adjust sight post, drilling blocks, action blocks, etc.. |
So the new toy is home. I just did a quick "what would it cost" list on MidwayUSA.
1781+shipping to get all the parts/accessories to my door. That is NOT including the rifle itself. Which I don't believe ever was a DPMS Lite 16, as this one has a chromed barrel. Best AR deal ever? |
This thread is going to be so boring without Pusha :(
|
Another one! Wee... to show the new toy or not to show the new toy... that is the question.

Please show.

Been itchy for another handgun... sold my HK USP earlier this year and have not replaced it yet. Been trying to get my hands on an XD(m) but it seems the "CA Approved" list has been quite effective at keeping them out of circulation. |
I was wondering when someone was going to say something about Pusha being gone. I'm indifferent. He was entertaining at times, but sometimes it got old. And I never really saw him actually talk about miata related things.

Where's the guy that was talking to me about carrying with his pleated Dockers and a pistol shoved in his crotch?

Range time planned this weekend. Having it all locked away and unshot so far makes me :( |

Heh, the camo was the only down side to the buy. Someone spent alot of time masking/prepping/painting this thing though.
Components it was built with all appear to make for a great first AR. |
The Camo isn't my thing, but long as you like it.
Btw, I met my best friend and his wife at the mall today. This kid, the security guard doucher was walking around the mall in his uniform wearing tactical gloves.. I'd bet he owns this ar: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1tOVxFjmXk...ticoolAR15.jpg |

Well, I gotta say, it does yell "tacticool" to me. I have a plain old generic Bushmaster AR-15 with absolutely nothing added or modified. I like it exactly like it is. However, the foregrip with the little bipod that pops out is pretty cool and I think if I got one I'd use it. The only problem is that I'd have to get those rails to mount it as far as I know.

On the Rails, yes also... they do make ones that mount to the barrel... but blech on that. The free floating rails are really easy to use from my understanding (the daniel defense on this AR is a two piece for easier install) and won't attach the bipod to the barrel. |
25 yards isn't that impressive.... but.....
