My guess is that in the heat of the moment most people shoot worse than what they do on a range but someone who has training would still be better.

Not really, I would have hoped it was obvious I wasn't talking about the average noguns but, I will say this, range shooting is often an issue. In the 1960s, when policemen carried revolvers, they were trained to line up spent casings after reloading. At a number of shootings where policemen were killed, spent casings were often seen lined up next to the body. Why was this? Because they were trained that way.

I've spent a lot of time at ranges in my few years on this planet and more often than not the guys wearing xyz pd t-shirts are the poorest shooters. They also talk the loudest, who knows.

If the zombies ever come or if society breaks down is the Draco and 5,000 rounds of ammo what I want to have with me? I don't know. None of these things are ever going to happen (I hope) so I don't know why I would put much importance on them.

As far as an SKS, I already have a Yugo 59/66 in wood. It is so damn heavy that I do not like shooting it. The only time it ever comes out of the case is when I want to shoot some golf balls out of the grenade launcher. Nothing cooler than walking out into the middle of the street and firing a few off. I keep the ATF papers with me that prove it is not a weapon when fired like that.

Anyway, thanks for the input. You might have steered me back towards the Draco.

Have you ever thought about hitting the gym or doing anything to better yourself physically? If one of these situations were to arise, would you be up to the task physically speaking?

Also, having 5,000 rounds of 7.62x39 stockpiled because you feel like you might need it is pretty foolish. In any scenario, the chances of you needing 5,000 rounds are slim to none; have you ever sat down and fired *just* 1,000 rounds out of a rifle in a single day? It's fucking grueling, tortuous even with a machine gun. I'd rather have 500 rounds and be totally ready to rock knowing I've put 4,500 rounds downrange. Being familiar with your weapon of choice is key. My weapon of choice? A fresh out of the box Colt LE6920. No optics, no fancy rail system, none of that bullshit -- just a lightweight, easy to use rifle that I'm 100% familiar with. It takes 20 mins to zero in and will last a lifetime.

I only buy Colts because I feel they are worth the money. Why spend $750 on something that's only OK when for an extra $250, you could have something that you KNOW you can rely on? Either a Colt LE6920 or a SP6920 will run you roughly $1,000 and be a boss rifle.

All of this conjecture is making me tired. I'm just grumpy because I wasn't able to make it to the range because of the weather. :(

My thoughts on being fit during the zombie apocalypse - more than plenty of time to get fit when it happens. Want to lose weight? Let society break down and have to kill people for some canned corn. I'll have plenty of fat on my belly to sustain me for weeks while the skinny people die off.

I did not do a very good job saying what I wanted to concerning the 5,000 rounds. What I meant was would an AK pistol be what I wanted to have if I could only have one gun. I'm sure it would be a fine choice but I will take a look at the Colts you mentioned. This is more than likely just a toy so I doubt I end up spending that much money.

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I think you oughta get yourself an M-16.

Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: Sir, if the time comes I need one, there'll be plenty lying on the ground.

I'd be comfortable with an AK pistol. There is always the option of a carbine length AR chambered 7.62x39 to accompany the AK Pistol. Or maybe just get an AK Pistol and full size AK rifle? Build a Draco SBR? It'll be your system, do what you'll feel comfortable with.

Pusha has assholes telling him he'd shoot better in broad daylight @ the range if he mounted a flashlight. I have assholes telling me I'd shoot better if I bought a piece of shit acog or eotech fucking red dot for my Colt A1. Those same assfucks also claim they can make 600 yard shots with their stupid 1x red dot.

pusha 08-16-2011 09:38 PM

I would not recommend a rifle (or carbine for that matter) chambered in 7.62x39 as an "all-around" defense weapon. You won't have range for shit with a 6" 7.62 x 39 barrel, BUT if you wanna be a G, you can go with 5.45 x 39.5 and rape face.

7.62 x 39 < 5.56 x 45 < 5.45 x 39.5 < 7.62 x 51

7.62 x 54R isn't up there because nuggets are AIDS. There, I said it.

Feed the troll.

I know someone who disagrees with that...

One thing cool about owning a Draco. Since I already have the SKS I can share ammo (which means I can buy in bulk without having it lay around so much).

I really don't understand the "tactical" craze I see associated with rifle building. I guess it's a hobby like putting shit on our cars. Have you ever picked up one of these "fully loaded" autos? Too heavy for me.

I'm with Pusha: Fuck the "pimp my gun" bullshit. How about you pimp that range time and become one with your rifle.

However, I am not a Colt Nazi. I'm shopping a DPMS LR-308L 7.9lbs empty. I think testing and reloading my own ammo is going to be the fun part, but I'm a nerd.

elesjuan 08-16-2011 11:15 PM

Isn't that kids name like Kyle or something?

*shrug* I can't hate too bad.. The turd did get invited to the Luckygunner shootout.. lol

Some people would think that doing your own reloads are as stupid as putting a bunch of shit on your gun. I swear to God the next time someone yells at me to watch my step when their brass lands by my feet I'm going to put them out of their misery. The only time I have had a revolver fail on me was when I used reloads and the guy didn't put the primers in far enough. Do a reload, save $0.01 a round, get killed when your revolver jams. Priceless...

Haters gonna hate.

Upset because he can accurately shoot the horribly inaccurate SKS? He gets paid to shoot machine guns and flamethrowers. When I was his age I was delivering pizzas. What's the problem?

gospeed81 08-16-2011 11:59 PM

I bought a half-priced Mossberg 100 ATR today.

Stumbled across it at the pawn shop I picked up my half-priced basically new Lincoln welder at during lunch.

Today was awesome.

That is all.
