What do you guys think about this barreled upper PSA AR15 18" Rifle Length .223 Wylde 1:7 Stainless 15" Keymod Upper - No BCG or Charging Handle? I have one of their built lowers on order.
|
I like all of it but the 1:7 twist. Id rather have 1:8. I got my cheap wylde upper from mid state firearms. If I didn't shoot rifles like I had Parkinsons it's sub 2 with m855.

Went out again the other day to the 100 yard line
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1449928653 Colt 6721 @100 yards with 9x optic using a friend's hand loads (he just started doing 223, imagine when he gets better!) The better group measured out to 1.25" https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1449928653 WASR 10-63 @100yards iron sights Wolf 124gr FMJ ammo. POA was bottom of black circle. Trying to sight it to hit slightly high for easier shots for longer distance to still hit the target. I got much better groups at 50 yards with the WASR, one reason I put an optic on the AR, I just couldn't see well enough to shoot it like it could shoot. Now I can hit a 5" steel plate at 200 yards 5/5times with Wolf gold ammo. AR is really an amazing platform. Yes, I dated the papers wrong. The accuracy (lolol) of the WASR actually makes me consider putting the nice Primary Arms 4x red dot scope thing on it. Even if it could do 2-3MOA, it would still make respectable hits out to 300 yards |

Started on my lower. I have no machining experience. This part could be completed with a hand drill but i opted for a drill press. This part was super easy. I am currently milling with a small router. Probably about 3/4 of the pocket is done. |

I am currently milling with a small router. Probably about 3/4 of the pocket is done. OTOH... every time I look up, somebody is dropping the price on Andersons. PrimaryArms had them for $35 a few days ago, but have sold out. Even after shipping and FFL, that's still just $55ea in my hand. I almost can't afford not to buy at least a couple more. And as the price of those comes down, some of the other mid-tier guys have to drop their price. Why would I buy a PSA blem for $50 and pay $13 to ship it when an Anderson is $35 with $6 shipping? I'm a big fan of Aero Precision, and I'm hoping that Schuyler will have a winter special of a stripped lower/upper set for $100 shipped... might need a couple sets. In any case, I'm am full speed ahead on building an AR9 w/Glock mags. I really want to shoot more and with an AR9, I can get the same training/fun and cut my ammo costs in half. Been watching the websites for the companies that make dedicated lowers waiting for a big sale. |
I'm considering making an AR9 and either 3d printing the mag block for glock mags or jus 3d printing a dedicated AR9 lower. With the designed to be printed lowers now the breakage concerns seem to have gone out of the window, at least at the round counts a normal person is going to see.

Finished the lower. It turned out ok but more important, it works. The safety selector is a little tight but is freeing up. The jig worked great and i am pleased with the tactical machining lowers.

TM is the default "go-to" company unless there's a reason you want something more fancy. The guys at CALGUNS are all TM fanbois for good reason. Are you going to leave the cuts in the raw or finish them off with something?

I think it looks good in two tone (not that u can see it attached to an upper). I wasnt planning on coating the trigger pocket unless convinced otherwise. The rear shelf comes pre-milled on the TM lowers. Unfortunately they are tapered a bit narrow toward the front and binds on the upper lug when assembling. |
Anyone have a spare BCG they want to sell me stupid cheap?

Yup, I'm mad Chosen People when it comes to financials. Plus I've got $320 into my (almost complete) AR pistol. I'd feel bad spending 1/3rd of that on the BCG alone

Anyone own an eotech? Are you going to send it back for a refund? Sitting on the fence right now with mine. There is a lot to like about it, which is making it difficult.
|
I have never owned one, but know lots of folks that like them. The fact that they admitted to a problem large enough to offer a full refund to anyone that bought them would indicate to me it's not something worth keeping... The last thing you want is to have it fail at the worst possible moment, especially when you knew it was questionable...
My $.02 on optics for close range (under 200 yds) combat rifles: I like things that either don't have batteries, or have a battery life so ridiculously long that you can just leave them on. I had a Trijicon Reflex that I bought in the 90's that I ran on my AR until the tritium faded out a couple of years ago. Never had a single issue with it, always held zero, and very effective. I replaced it with an Aimpoint PRO, which for the last few years has worked just as flawlessly. When the rifle is "in service" the sight is turned on... 24/7 if it's not in the safe. I replace the battery once a year, and never have to worry about it. When it's time to go to work, you don't want to have to think about turning a sight on. Between the Reflex and PRO, I like the compactness of the Reflex, and I really liked the 12.5 MOA triangle reticle. Not to say I have any issues with the PRO. Both are transparent to me on the gun... just shoulder it, and I get an aiming point. |
I love my EOTech.
I also don't see me ever using my EOTech at -40*F or +122*F If I were to ever use my EOTech at those temperatures, +/- 6 MOA is not going to prevent me from defending myself... Shooting at ranges where +/- 6 MOA accuray becomes an issue isn't considered self defense; that's called "hunting". I have a rifle and optic specifically for hunting. And again, I'm not going to go hunting at -40*F or +122*F. I don't live north of the arctic circle or in the Sahara. If it's that temperature outside, I'll go hunting at the grocery store. |

Damn you must have missed out on that deal last week for a complete ar pistol build kit with 80% lower for 330 shipped. I was damn close to buying one.
http://discountpartsandmore.com/products/ar-15-pistol-kit-complete-with-slim-guard On the eotech. I got to use one on an mcx with a can a couple weeks ago. I'm sold on holo sight over a normal red dot. So much better, especially with the 20MOA ring around the dot. Not sure I would buy an eotech brand one though. |
