Unless you plan to get raided, in which case a few mags is the least of your worries, then why get rid of them. Load them into a moving box and just don't take them out. Tell her that you're gonna take $500 bucks out of her first "dream job" paycheck to cover the costs of moving your firearms hobby to Kommiefornia.

Also... you're not fucking married yet, so consider before you completely alter your life how awesome it will be if she calls it off in a few months after you've sold all your cool toys. Just sayin'.

Duly noted Sam haha. I'm confident that will not be the scenario, but I suppose anything is possible. Those mags are a 'nice to have' not 'must have' item so I won't lose sleep over it. I have a couple 10rd'ers making it perfectly legal to own and shoot this rifle regularly, simply without 30 rounders. The two options I'm comfortable with are to retain the hardware and convert them to 10/30 mags *absolutely positively irreversibly forever* or offload them. I'd have no issue offloading them if I knew I could get them back later. If I couldn't I'd likely be fine with plenty of 10rd'ers in a dystopian fantasy world anyway.

I am no smitten kitten and I go into this willingly. There are hobbies I love that CA will facilitate which don't involve guns and cars. If those two were in fact unpossible to continue, it would be a different conversation but a loophole here and there and we're good to go!

I want to buy a 5.56 upper for my first AR15. PSA has a bunch of them for sale for memorial day. I am looking at the $189 assembled uppers.
I can't choose between the 3 uppers:
PSA 16" Mid-length 5.56 NATO 1:8 Stainless Steel Freedom Upper - No BCG or Charging Handle - 7788890
PSA 16" 5.56 NATO Mid-length Stainless 1/7 Heavy Freedom Upper - Without BCG / CH - 7790503
PSA 16" Mid-length 5.56 NATO 1/8 Stainless Steel Heavy Freedom Upper - No BCG or Charging Handle

This is going to be a general purpose gun. Any recommendations on which one of the 3 I should get?

Thanks

fooger03 05-27-2016 04:48 PM

For general purpose? Get the 1:8 non-heavy.

Monk 05-27-2016 05:53 PM

Agreed

Thanks for the recommendation. I ordered the 1:8 non heavy version.

There has been a disturbance.

You could pretty much count on at least big quarterly sales from PSA where some stuff was REALLY cheap... they blew out all their blems and had real clearances... but that was back when PSA was a bit lower on the industry totem pole than they are today. Currently, with their line of AR10's, hybrid 47's, Glock mag lowers, and 1911... they are a full-blown gun company, and not just a place for "cheap AR's". In fact, when PSA grew up a couple years ago, they needed to elevate their brand name a bit, but still be able to sell really cheap stuff, so they "acquired" PTAC. The current Memorial Day sale is the biggest sale I've seen from them in awhile.

Now granted, a lot of their stuff is just rebranded from other companies, but they aren't the same company they were a couple years ago. So...who is filling the gap on really cheap AR parts? Well, Anderson Manufacturing has been strong in the past year. I've assembled 2 of their guns and fired quite a few more... they are the equal of any mid-tier brand for half the price. I think the cheapest I've seen their lowers is from FatBoy Tactical for $37 and like $6 shipping... I bought 2 for $80'ish shipped last year, and will buy a few more next time they have a blem sale. SchuylerArms has great deals on their LPK's, and every body sells their stripped uppers for $40.

Now to the fun part. In the past few months, I've somehow been added to a mailing list for a bunch of places filling the bottom-feeder gap that (it is my impression) PSA left open. I had always bought my really cheap stuff at gun-shows for cash, but these places I'm getting emails from are way cheaper, and appear to be much closer to the source in China (less middlemen?). There's also a bunch of "Made in USA" parts, so maybe some domestic places can now manufacture in enough bulk to get in the game. This is the place I like the best.

I'm looking at that Mini 1x22 red dot they have on clearance...anyone have any experience with it? For $40, I might just say fuck it...

stratosteve 06-04-2016 07:34 PM

If i were in the market for a cheap red dot, i would buy a primary arms in either the standard or the preferred 50,000 hour battery life version micro dot.

Yup, the answer to "cheap red dot" is always Primary Arms. However, the Bushnell TRS25 is $80 any day of the week lots of places, and regularly goes on sale for cheaper. I think there was an Amazon flash sale the other day in the $60 range. In any case, the generical Chinese cheapo red-dots may last you forever or break during mounting... it's all about what mood the dude was in on the assembly line and if it was his 20,000th of the day or his first. OTOH... all my red-dots went bye-bye a few years ago... I'm an iron guy now (still have plenty of scopes for hunting and target) and a better marksman for it. Skip the red-dot and get yourself a set of DD fixed or Magpul BUIS and a Trijicon fsp... never look back.

I just bought a couple of these $15 blem handguards...
Schuyler Arms | D-Day Sale! ? AR-15 Handguards/Handguard Combos

These are going on the super-budget beater guns I'm slowly building for when the zombies (Hillary) arrives. So far:

Anderson Lower: $56 (including transfer)
Anderson LPK-minus: $20
KAK buffer kit: $25
Brownells 16" middy: $60
TR handguard: $15
YMH Gas block&tube: $30
Upper parts kit: $20
PSA M16 BCG: $70
Grip, stock, trigger: Free

Still need the upper... gonna be a $40 Anderson

Total: $336 for a complete gun with decent brand-name parts (except the handguard)... probably another $30 total for shipping. It's taken me a year though. Gonna grab the uppers next month unless I see them for $40 shipped in the meantime.

stag is selling some blem uppers for $70 I think.

Well, I finally did it tonight. I grabbed some wrenches and de-mounted my presses from my reloading bench. I had a pretty nice setup but I have come to realize that I had not loaded anything since last September. It was kind of sad boxing everything up but I have moved on to another hobby and I really needed the space. I could tell I was shifting away from everything else when I sold my car lift, my sandblasting cabinet, and my last 20 Mosins. Not sure how long this current hobby will consume me but I just didn't see me loading anything for at least another year and that was just too much time to have that stuff sitting around. It's been 9 months since I shot anything anyway. Maybe when Hillary gets elected and the revolution starts I'll take it up again.

I'm up to around 25 machines at this point...

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a carry handle to complete my build. Anyone have a extra carry handle or rear sight to sell?
Any recommendation?

Thanks,

Got my $15 quad-rails in... gonna be just fine on my 2 beater guns. They're heavy'ish and the coating and machining are pretty rough, but they were damned cheap! They'll be on a midlength barrel, so the gas block will stick out 1/2" or so... not worried.
