Maybe from like three years ago. Tire tech has come a long way in 3 years. NT-01s are mud-swamper loud, wear quickly, and are garbage in the wet. The best street tire available is the 205/50 RE71R for 8" wheels or the 225/45 Rival S for 9" wheels. Both of those tires have more lateral grip than an NT01, better tread life, are better in the rain, and are quieter on the highway.
If you need a true 50/50 dual-purpose tire, the 225/45 RS3V2 or the Rival non-S is the way to go. The current crop of 200tw UHP tires (RE71R, Rival-S, V720) are meant for autocross and will wear too quickly for track use, so previous generation tires are what you want (RS3V2/Rival non-S).
If you need a dedicated HPDE tire, you want the Maxxis RC-1 (best value, good speed) or a Toyo RR (more expensive but faster and still a decent value). I don't think I'd suggest the NT-01 for anything these days.

However now that I reread it I can see your final recommendation would be rival s, though I am not crazy you did recommend the nt01. I was hammered or at least on my way to be when we were talking last week.
