I'm forced to agree, but I guess it just depends on how much time/finances the OP wants to invest into the project. If it's to achieve a goal without future proofing the project it should be fine (it's still 1.6L after all)

Looking back on the post on Nov4 by the previous owner, he said the turbo NEEDS a rebuild. Unless it was rebuilt between that time and the time you've purchased, either way it wasn't when the motor was swapped. I hope you weren't duped.

On the plus side (according to PO) new clutch, valve cover gasket, water pump and timing belt.

Maybe just pickup a new $300 turbo?

This might answer at least the boost problem. The rest is still questionable at best. But one thing at time...

Maybe pick up an ebay manifold with a new churrocharger

At least his car didn't come with a 10year neglected hardtop with lichen grown and a punched out rear window like mine.

My car was so janky and stock. now it's just janky. I think I paid more

I wonder if the turbine is spinning fast enough to generate boost, or if the bearings are just roasted. My old EFR stopped boosting even though it spun by hand. Some fins where blown out and it went out of balance causing the shaft to bend slightly enough for some fins to crash into the housing creating a lot of drag.

What kind of turbo was it? t25 flange?

Disconnecting the downpipe & attempting boost runs? Bet that smelted great.

My vote is on the bearings, since wiring the wastegate shut did nothing.

You disconnected the wastegate first from the flapper right before wiring it shut?

TD04 15g. The turbo isnt spinning fast enough to create boost, hence no boost. Why its not spinning fast enough is the real question.

GPOPSHOP - Mitsubishi Rebuild Kits

Volvo Owners Club Forum - View Single Post - Information: - How to refurbish and replace a turbo - Some link I found

And this recent video from car passion channel, similar steps.

Maybe the youtube guy will chime in, he's around here somewhere

Edit* - And as noted in the video, mark where everything originally lines up. Make the mark before taking off the compressor wheel

Means bearings are dragging. It needs a rebuild (i.e PO lied to you and it was NOT rebuilt as stated in his earlier FB post). Replace turbo. Insta150whp
